Question/Help What's in your cup? Daily discussion, questions and stories - October 14, 2026

What are you drinking today? What questions have been on your mind? Any stories to share? And don't worry, no one will make fun of you for what you drink or the questions you ask.

You can also talk about anything else on your mind, from your specific routine while making tea, or how you've been on an oolong kick lately. Feel free to link to pictures in here, as well. You can even talk about non-tea related topics; maybe you want advice on a guy/gal, or just to talk about life

in general.

We realize there are lots of people involved in the tea industry here, so this thread is a weekly feature where anyone can promote their current projects without worrying about the self-promotion rules. Feel free to include links to your shop, crowdfunding sites, surveys, sales, or discount codes. The rule against claims of health benefits remains in effect here. It should go without saying that we still expect people to be respectful and follow the reddiquette. While we intend for this to be a free-for-all promotion zone, please don't overrun the thread posting the same thing over and over.

It’s been 99 cents since before I was born, and I distinctly remember someone from AriZona saying that, like the Costco hotdog, they wouldn’t change the price. What gives?

Question/Help Where do you get your Japanese green teas?

Post image
85 Upvotes

I’m just getting started exploring Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese teas. I’ve found that I like Sencha the most (I’ve yet to try Gyokuro).

It’s quite overwhelming picking what and where to order. So far I’ve ordered from Tea & Whisk and Senbird Tea, and have been satisfied. I’ve been peeking at Ippodo and Tezumi, and I know people talking about Yunomi.life.

So where do you go for good Japanese green teas that doesn’t break the bank?

Food Anyone else a crazy cardamom lover?

I got the loose-leaf cardamom tea from Ahmad Tea, but I also bought green cardamom pods for when I want to flavor my tea with the real deal! Naturally, I got rose water and pomegranate molasses for extra tea flavorings(I'm crazy like that, muahaha)! On another note, cardamom pairs well with sweet vermicelli noodles milk pudding, and sweet soaked rice flakes!

Question/Help Tea leaf expansion experiment

Post image
• Upvotes

I need to preface this by saying that I've only just started getting into tea a while ago so I'm no professional. This may be a pointless test but I found it fun.

I recently got a new basket to steep my tea in that was double the size of my first one and I found the tea tasted better with more room to expand. That made me wonder about what it would taste like with unlimited space. Obviously I could just have the tea loose in the pot but I don't want it to be oversteeped so that wouldn't work for me. That made me think of our french press (I’ve heard people used those for tea). My idea was to brew the tea in the french press so the tea has all the space needed to flow freely, and then pour the tea into my teapot once it’s finished steeping. I tried it and I found the tea tasted softer. Not weaker, just softer and maybe less astringent.

That leads me to my controlled experiment. Same amount of water and tea, same water temperature, same steeping time. One cup made in the french press (then poured directly into the cup instead of the pot for the sake of the experiment), one in my regular basket and teapot. I tasted them side by side and found it had the same result. The french press tea was softer (and in my opinion nicer).

I used a Swedish tea blend from a tea house called Sibyllans that I like. It’s their black christmas tea (yes it is very early but it's SO good), flavoured with cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, oranges, and vanilla.

The reason I'm posting this is because I guess I want confirmation that there’s science or something behind it and that it's not in my head hahah. Also, I find little experiments like this very fun and would love to hear about yours if you have any.

Normally I add 10% Keemun to smooth out my Assam. I needed some Keemun and I came across this during Prime Days for a great price so I figured 250g wouldn't kill me if I didn't like it.

Surprised to find a tea of this quality on Amazon. Instead of how Keemun kind of reinforces the malty roundness of the Assam, this one really smoothes it and adds a subtle wine-y sweet finish. I suppose this tea is just Yunnan black, which I don't hate but don't like enough to keep it. It's actually really good and I would order again.

What is it for? Milk?

I’ve been eying this set for three weeks because i find it so beautiful and i got it for 7€ and just had to get it.

I’m trying to get into drinking tea

I drink a lot of coffee and I’m trying to introduce tea into my life more. Do you have any recommendations of best bagged teas? Best brew methods? Best milk to put in it? I’m usually a coffee with oat milk kind of gal, is oat milk good in a simple black tea?

Hey, all! Was just wondering what kind of tea was supposed to be served in this mug I found for sale at a thrift store. Does the writing on it mean anything? Are you supposed to brew a special kind of tea in it? Thanks!

Question/Help Matcha people: please explain.

I'm not asking about matcha with a bunch of stuff added like sugar or mashed strawberries.

But like the regular powder (?) you whisk (?) into hot (?) water?

I've had it a few times and aside from the fact that it's a quite dense concentration of flavors if found the least of them enjoyable which very strong false flavors of rancid fish fat for example. Very grassy and algae like.

What did I do wrong?

Is it supposed to be that way? What do you like about it?

I know matcha is high quality tea usually which surprises me even more because I actually really like teas like oolong, gaba, puerh....

Where should I try it? The shops that pop up everywhere only sell the matcha ice cream dessert type of it.

Recommendation Need a new Kettle + Saki Review

Post image
4 Upvotes

first time here. wife is a tea drinker.

my previous set up was a Saki Turkish Style Kettle which looked nice and felt nicely made but it has been a piece of crap and noisy and now it seems to have some electrical problems with faulty connections and weird static noises even when it is off the past 6 months but they are not providing much support (no longer supported model, no support in Canada, Contacted 1 month post 2 year term even though it has been having problems the past year). this has been a pretty dissapointing considering they are not exactly cheap.

Anyways I am looking for something to replace it. I am not a fan of poor quality products and I am willing to pay more than the usual appliance level items to have something that will last a good few years unlike this one.

required : Needs to look nice on the counter, minimum 1.2L capacity temp adjustment not required but a hold is needed.

if I can place a teapot on top (lided vs the button popped top) it would be ideal. does not need to come with a teapot as long as I can semi safely place on top.

Budget : around 200$USD
Location is in Canada, Ontario Prefer local vendors
Currently Looked at Breville Models since they seem to be descent quality
