Error 1722 installing MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX64.msi after in-place upgrade from MS Windows Server 2016 to 2019

Hello.

I had 3 servers with MS Windows Server 2016 standard with Microsoft Edge.

I migrated these 3 servers to Windows Server 2019 with in-place upgrade: the 3 servers are working perfectly after the upgrade.

Only an issue: Windows Server 2019 is not able to upgrade Microsoft Edge via WSUS (error 0x80070643).

So I uninstall Microsoft Edge, but I'm unable to reinstall it with MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX64.msi installer: I have the error 1722 on all the 3 servers.

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. did it fully uninstall? as in, are there still references to it in the registry, under HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall, or HKLM:\Software\Wow6432NODE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall?

Yes.

No references in the registry under your paths.

are you running it with msiexec and using the a logging switch? I usually push all of mine with /lvx* <path-to-log-file>.

To fully confirm its not some obscure old remnants, you can try running something like Revo uninstaller. I've seen that software pick up things I had zero clue existed, and running that resolved issues with trying to do msi re-installs. I swear I've seen that same 1722 error code before too, I THINK it was revo uninstaller that got me where I needed to be.

nah it never uninstalls clean after a in-place upgrade, leaves a mess in the registry and winsxs. check the event viewer for msi installer logs, probably find a dll registration failing somewhere in the chain. i had similar thing on 2019 after going from 2016, ended up having to use the microsoft uninstall tool for edge then manually delete the leftover keys before the enterprise msi would go through

The upgrade may have mucked up base permissions, I would guess that one of the temp locations can't be written too, or maybe has an old file of the same name that it couldn't overwrite.
