Hey everyone!
A game currently in development called
MOVILLIA revolves around exploring pitch-black alien cave systems where your flashlight battery is scarce, and bio-scanners are used to spot mutated fauna in the dark.
How do you feel about mechanics where darkness is a constant threat and you have to rely heavily on scanner tools?

Just a question that popped up since I just got here. What's a game you'd like as a movie or a series?
(Add photos if typing ain't enough... Or not, it's your choice)

Hello, I am a solo dev and currently working on a little survival horror game called "Happy to Help!".
A satire of Animal Crossing (which I love and play since the gamecube btw) in a disturbed world where animals seem to have taken over...
Oh and a white rabbit chases you with an axe!
If this is something that intrigues you, it would mean the world to me if you took the time to wishlist it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5192870/Happy_to_Help/
Than you for your time!

Since it's spooky season I thought I'd rank some of the lesser talked about horror games I've played.

So here's the biggest adjustments for my HDRP pipeline.
What do you guys think? Improvement or barely noticeable? The sharper/harder images are old, the softer are with the SSS.
The game is Seventh Seal - available as a demo now on steam if you're interested in checking it out!

It’s that time of year when Halloween is just around the corner and people are bringing out horror movies to watch and playing horror video games. One of the most iconic horror video games is Silent Hill 2 and one big reason it was so successful was the deep evocative atmosphere that the soundtrack creates from thoughtful repose to deep melancholy to industrial horror.
As a metalhead who loves going to metal shows, I decided that I wanted to do a project—I reimagined the original video game soundtrack using metal music songs instead. This new playlist I created is honestly in some ways scarier than the original if possible, as I am drawing from some of the very types of music that inspired Akira Yamaoka in the first place.
We start with Ducere me in Lucem, a wordless (but not vocal less) track that to me represent an overture, perhaps James thinking of his wife before the start of our soundtrack.
https://youtu.be/HH7Ff-8ddTw?is=WHIinYM8kZ67FIfr
The next track is the a Wuthering Heights cover performed by Karliene. This song is in a lower key than the original, and also has fog sounds at the beginning and the ends. Wuthering Heights like Silent Hill is a story of a lovers tragedy, and is about a female ghost asking to see her lover again at their place where they meet. This is very reminiscent of the opening scene where James reads Mary’s letter.
https://youtu.be/tcPrv_6jhRk?is=UB06VN_UUPCK8gqR
Then comes James’ long walk into town through the nature path. He is thinking of his wife and his sorrow over her death along this silent and somber path. My Wine in Silence fits this lonely walk.
is=jm0NQzLlKHyEIsAI
James enters the town proper and walks through the town. The fog is suffocating, and here James encounters his first Lying Ones. The heaviness of the atmosphere thickens. The synth on this funeral doom track reflect the continuation of James outdoor walk, while the growls and harsh vocals represent his encounters with the sluggish Lying Ones
https://youtu.be/bGxh9iJn6Ms?is=2vbtBe2GRHx2kK0j
James makes his way through the Woodside and Creekside apartments to the sound of the instrumental version of Slipknots Iowa. The wet noises sound like the Mannequins that James encounters in this area. The nature noises have disappeared and only eerie footsteps are left in their wake.
https://youtu.be/Dgm1hvuQE1w?is=b0C_-yjx-0A88uxc
R
The first fight with pyramid head is startling as he sneaks up on you and it catches you by surprise. Godflesh’s Christbait Rising will do likewise…
https://youtu.be/zVSW_1kBhqg?is=FkGbCltEzYbcSnRh
After leaving the apartments, James finds Maria. I used a 1 minute fog section to represent this shift of atmosphere as the outdoor sounds return.
https://youtu.be/sA54Xk1eHvc?is=vFkAbMy3Mq_KEigM
Maria represents his pent up sexual fustration and guilt. Peter Steel of Type O Negative and his voice evoke similar feelings of obsessive desire and guilt in Love You To Death.
https://youtu.be/rEN_KJny6Bg?is=Frw-7zDkHyq_zdEO
Another symbol of repressed desire are the bubble head nurses that James encounters with Maria in the Hospital. I have used the instrumental version of Killpop by Slipknot to represent his first encounters with these scary women.
https://youtu.be/V0OkxA2MgAo?is=
Mary is killed by Pyramid Head, leaving James alone once again. James travels to the Historical Society exploring it. Sunn O’s track the Weeper represents the cold isolation James feels traveling this part of the journey without him.
https://youtu.be/J5zioLEdGrE?is=bn
He finds a long staircase traveling down it and arriving in Toluca prison, the atmosphere is suffocating. James must solve a puzzle that involves him going back and forth between an outdoor area and an indoor area full of the upgraded mannequins that climb on the walls. I used Darkspace —Dark 1 to encapsulate the descent and journey though the nightmare-fueled frantic search to solve the puzzle.
https://youtu.be/FZ0H-5uN7TM?is=70NteBfIhj7RO4le
After escaping the prison, James is in an otherworld dimention where he must solve a rotating puzzle cube puzzle. I use Pluto the Gatekeeper by Mare Cognitum—cosmic black metal to represent the otherworldly atmosphere.
https://youtu.be/6exxMDwrArQ?is=J9qtF0ivtkgPo3s3
“It Took the Night to Believe” by Sunn O represents James traveling around the Lakeview Hotel and discovering that he killed Maria. The softer synth are contrasted with the harsh tormented vocals.
https://youtu.be/uTVNJWThv38?is=uDi9JKRPnf1zSKlM
The next song is for the double Pyramid Head fight, and I use Break those Bones Who Sinews Gave It Motion by Meshuggah (instrumental version). The mechanical slow riffs are reminiscent of the mechanical slow knifes of the pyramid heads and the feeling of impending doom.
https://youtu.be/O1EtqjIKntQ?is=j3U49o0WH_THxTUK
The next song, Gallows Birds by Trees of Eternity represents James accepting the truth and getting ready to face Mary. He has come to peace with his guilt and needs to do this one last thing to move on.
https://youtu.be/OrNjJwmB7jk?is=Hs9ajplgeVfFcQGF
Mirrors by Lebensucht represents the horror James feels at seeing the final boss and realizing that it is a twisted version of his wife on her deathbed. The agonizing screams represent her pain she is forcing him to feel and address during this final battle.
https://youtu.be/TV1zJZj6gUU?is=kcNarT952eH3eNpp
Darkness by Ignea represents James leaving Silent Hill with Laura. (You are welcome to interpret with a different ending if you want)
https://youtu.be/igs7oZpalaA?is=lNGpzsxh34Yrj_J9
Love Song for A Vampire represents James enduring love for Mary and that this will remain even as he moves on to a new chapter. It suggests a gothic ending. It can also can represent the call back to the start of James journey (In Water Ending)
Let's Discuss:
Now that you see what I envisioned, I want to hear from you:
Do you agree with the vibe for these scenes?
How would you change the tracklist to fit your own version of the remake?

Pinhead gets most of the attention, but I think the other Cenobites are just as fascinating.
What makes them so disturbing isn't simply their appearance or the body horror. It's the feeling that each of them represents a different way the human body, identity, and even the idea of pleasure can be twisted into something completely alien.
They don't feel like ordinary movie monsters. They feel like beings who have crossed a line so far that the concepts of pain, pleasure, and humanity no longer mean the same thing to them.
And that's what makes the Cenobites so unsettling to me. They're not just trying to scare you. They make you question what a person could become after abandoning everything that once made them human.
Which Cenobite do you find the most disturbing, apart from Pinhead, and why?

I finally was able to release my game Heartworm on all current and prev. gen consoles last week! It's heavily inspired by early survival horror games as well as games like Alone in the Dark and Myst.
If you want to check it out it would be greatly appreciated and a review would also be huge help.
It's really hard to get traction on consoles especially as an indie and I could use all the help I can get.
Thanks!

Hey all. First game I've ever finished, so honest feedback is very welcome, good or bad.
Overpressure Night 1 is a short first-person horror demo. You're the night maintenance guy at an old steelworks. Machines keep breaking down, you go find the parts and fix them, and something in the building hunts you by sound.
The part I like most: getting a machine running gives you light, but it's also loud. Sprinting is loud. Repairs are loud. So you keep having to choose between seeing where you're going and staying quiet. You can hide in lockers, peek around corners, and your flashlight eats batteries faster than you'd like.
It's about 10-15 minutes long and free.
I'm not a programmer, so I'll be straight about how this got made:
- All of the code was written by Claude (Anthropic's AI) from my descriptions. I didn't write it myself.
- The map was generated by a script Claude wrote. I played through it and asked for changes until it felt right.
- Some of the 3D models were made with Claude in Blender. Footstep sounds are from The Sound Guild's free pack, and textures are from Poly Haven.
- I worked out the concept together with Claude. I picked the industrial setting and the direction, and did all the playtesting.
- I know a lot of people here aren't fans of AI in game dev, and I get why.
I'd still love to hear what works and what doesn't, especially whether the creature feels fair and whether it's actually scary.

A locked door becoming a shortcut changes more than travel time. It can turn a route that costs ammunition or healing into a safer option, making the earlier effort of exploring feel worthwhile.
That relief can still leave a tense decision. A short route might pass one dangerous enemy, while a longer route uses a stretch you've already cleared. Knowing the layout then gives you options without guaranteeing safety. By contrast, simply adding fresh enemies to every cleared corridor can make careful exploration feel wasted.
There's a useful distinction between changing a familiar route and erasing the progress made there. A new sound or a blocked doorway can make you reconsider a plan without making every previous decision irrelevant.
Which survival horror game handles that balance well, and what specifically keeps its familiar routes interesting?
