New achievement update is a big downgrade

instead of improving the experience for people who like to complete achievements and 100% the game, steam has devalued it and made it worse. Steam made it much less appealing to look at and much less rewarding. first and foremost "completed" is much worse then "perfect game" and its devaluing. the new logo for a perfect game looks much worse and does not give the same feeling, the old one looked much better and it was also displayed in the corner of a completed game like a medal that made the player feel accomplished. the new update is definitely a downgrade in that regard. They also removed the percentage system (% of the games completed) which many players took pride in and is something that motivated players to complete the games that they currently have. last but not least, counting games and groups together was a final nail in the coffin. good job steam you guys ruined the joy of completing achievements. the only useful update that people wanted and been asking for is seperating the DLC achievements from a regular game, because it incentivized developers leveraging achievement system to make people purchase the DLC.

Would it be a good idea to make a plugin/extension to revert back to the classic system progression?

I have to say this update has delighted me with the quality of life improvements and overall-better system to categorize achievements, majority agreeing that this was a long-time coming.

However, I’ve noticed some members upset that some features being removed or changed from this update (e.g; game completion rate or old hud layout)

I want to propose the idea that maybe it would be beneficial if at some point in the future there can be a plugin that reverts back to the classic system if people desired. Both groups able to have their cake and eat it.

Just to reiterate: this is not about which system is better or not. This is asking if there should be an option to bring a more classical achievement system in form of a plugin/extension?

Loving the new Steam achievement changes, but we need a better unlock sound!

• Upvotes

Really loving the new achievement changes on Steam, and achievements look and feel so much better in the app now. The one thing I still wish they'd improve is the achievement unlock sound.

PlayStation has such a satisfying trophy sound, while Steam's is pretty generic. I feel like a better sound would make unlocking achievements feel that much more rewarding. Either that or let us customize the sound ourselves.

I've actually got a scheduled task that replaces Steam's achievement sound with the PS5 trophy sound because it just hits different. The annoying part is that every time Steam updates, it reverts back to the default sound, so I have to keep running the task again.

Anyone else wish Steam would give us a better achievement sound or let us customize it?

Percentage gone is going to help

I refused to start any new game because I know if I got a single achievement, it would bring my percentage down, my goal for this year was to stay above 70% but with this new feature, I literally don't need to worry about it. I can focus more on multiple ribbons for games, less worry about not buying a game because millions of DLCs, I can count it done with the base game like how playstation does. I did however go up from 186 games to 189, thanks steam, I'm getting 200 this year B)

If you're upset about % completion rate removal remember to post feedback on Steam

• Upvotes

For me the percent meter of completion was one the most motivating factor to max out games. I'm really disappointed that it disappeared. I hope they add it back but it's important to share feedback on Steam so they know it's a big issue for achievement hunters.

Write posts about it

Add comments supporting posts that talk about it.

Let's get it back!

Started using PSNProfiles guides to make interactive checklists

I started doing this with Stick of Truth because "Full Arsenal" and "More Popular Than John Lennon" achievements are full of missable items and friends you have to catch in a single run. Costumes also only count once you have all three pieces, and it's almost required to sell them to have enough money to buy the rest of the gear, so tracking all that from a static guide while playing was a pain.

PSNProfiles guides have the best categories and strategies, but you can’t tick anything off like a checklist to see how many you have completed. Sites with checklists usually have weaker guides. So I asked Claude to make me a custom one: a single HTML file per game with the guide’s categories and strategies, sub-ticks for each costume piece or Secret Mission, collectible counters, a missable filter, and progress that saves.

It uses the PSNProfiles page + the list of achievements on Steam's own achievements list (divided between base game and DLCs through some extensions I downloaded on my browser).

I have since done Sunset Overdrive and doing Devil May Cry 1 now the same way. I wish I had this for collectibles that don't get tracked in-game, as it's much easier to keep track of them now.

Is anyone else doing this, or is there a site I have missed that combines proper guides with real tracking?

P.S. - I know many hate AI and will call this "AI slop", but I really could not find any website that does these guides this well, and I can add any changes I want by asking for it. Plus the data will be correct as it's from PSNProfiles nd often it even adds corrections to the guide based on comments from the Steam guides (used a Steam guide for Sunset Overdrive as it's not on PlayStation).

Why did they remove overall completion percentage...

There was more than enough room to keep it, now there's just an empty space and it doesn't really offer a nice compact metric on how many achievements you've acquired anymore.

Does Anyone Know What It Looks Like To Have An Archived Achievement?

I'm really curious what happens when an achievement you have is "archived"

>What does it look like for the person who has the archived achievement?

>If you have the archived achievement, are you able to see it on the achievements page for said game? can you look at it and see the date you unlocked it still?

>Do the archived achievements still count towards your achievement total on the showcase, or do they not count? once they become "archived"

>For that matter do they still count for the game itself if you are looking at the game in your library.

I have only so far heard that the TF2 "youtube achievements" were archived. Now TF2 shows me that it has 516 achievements instead of 520, but im so curious what it would look like if I had unlocked those?
If anyone happens to have these youtube acheivements that are now "archived" i would love to know what it looks like.

I doubt any other games have "archived" an achievement yet.

too bad valve didn't do this BEFORE they deleted 150 hours of CSGO achievements from me.

Celebrate Big news: TF2 is completable once more

I was looking through some of the games utilizing Steam's new achievement features and I realized that they have finally gotten rid of the 4 unobtainable replay achievements. TF2 is now possible to be completed. Still extremely difficult and grindy, but completable. Funnily enough, the Good Guy Nick achievement for L4D2 is still there, so I suppose that's a soft confirmation that there will be more free weekends to come.

It's probably too early to ask but has anyone Completed/100% the game with this new beta view ?

I wonder if they've added some pop up for the "Completed" badge ? Maybe some sound as well ? To plat a game on ps is soooo satisfying, on Steam you are not even aware that you completed a game after the last achievement if you don't track it.
Also, is it possible to see in the store (if you don't own the game) which game already supports new system separation bcz Ive looked through a couple of recently released games and didn't notice anything like that.

One of the WORST Achievements EVER...

Thumbnail

In Mortal Kombat 9, a game I absolutely adore btw, there's an achievement called ''My Kung Fu Is Stronger'' which requires you to:

- Score 100 victories

- Perform 100 finishing moves

- Perform 150 special moves

- Spill 10.000 pints of blood

and I shit you not

- Spend 24 HOURS of playtime

ALL of that with EACH of the 32 FREAKING CHARACTERS!

On the last requirement alone you would spend AT LEAST 768 HOURS of play time, never seen an achievement this grindy. And even though I love playing this game I seriously don't picture myself getting this achievement in less than a decade lmao.
