Creation Sporetober 2026 day 13: The hyper aggression virus.
The Borgo created the virus to evolve their bodies into a stronger form. But the virus changed and evolved beyond their control causing the infected to be hyper aggressive and infecting 95% of life on the planet, with 5% being non mutated Borgo. The Five star Alliance in a extremely controversial move, has decided with a 3 to 2 vote to crash the planet into its star, and that the risk of spread is too dangerous to save the remaining civilians.

Apparently, cube planets are way more diverce than we thought
If you look closely, it has 6 fused sircular islands and 8 small seas, making it kind of a reverse cubical planet, which normally has 6 oceans and one large continent with 8 mountains.
It does make me think though... Are there other unusual cubical planets with unusual structure?

Sporetober 2026 Day 14: Bedazzled
The Axiner Amabile is a stunning creature that resembles Therizinosaurus. Its striking golden feathers, claws, and red velvet skin are impossible to look away. In fact, its wine-red palette is exactly what it intends, in a toxic way. Axiner Amabile loves to be treated as a royal figure. Making various noises, such as tapping its feet and shaking its dangled hat, no one can resist its charm, to the point where one becomes brainwashed. Ecologists have observed groups of creatures greeting and dancing for Amabiles. Their beauty is a curse, and this twisted affection can last for days.

Is someone working on a Spore decomp?
With all these decomp projects coming out I can't wait to see if/when someone does it for Spore. Maybe finally we can have Spore multiplayer be a thing and fix flaws with the game

Question What happens to other saves if you kill off the Grox?
If you get to space stage in a new save after killing the Grox, do they still appear in your galaxy or are they just...not there anymore?

Discussion What are your theories on why the grox are the way they are?

Question What am I doing wrong with the Grox?
I recently started my first playthrough since I was a kid and have been absolutely loving the game up until now, when I’ve nearly reached the end of space stage (or at least I assume it’s near the end since my progress bar is nearly full). I’ve been trying to reach the center of the galaxy. At first I tried just speeding through the Grox colonies, spamming as many repair packs as I could, but that seemed like a fools errand. So I decided to try to befriend them, or at least get them to neutral so they stop attacking me every time I get near them. (If that’s even what happens?) It seems like the only(?) way to do this is to complete missions for them, but of course they continue to attack you the entire time. Basically every mission goes like this:
1) Reach a Grox colony (spamming repair packs along the way) contact them, ask for a mission, then get blown up the second I hang up the transmission.
2) Respawn, go back through the wormhole, go to the planet for the mission (spamming repair packs along the way), complete the mission while running away from the Grox that are chasing me, then immediately get blown up by the ships that are waiting for me the second I leave the atmosphere. Repeat this step for as many planets that the mission has.
3) Respawn, go back through the wormhole, return to the planet that gave me the mission (spamming repair packs) collect my reward, immediately get blown up the second the transmission ends. All that for a whopping +5 or +10 on the relationship scale.
This has been incredibly frustrating, and not really fun at all since I don’t feel like I’m actually beating the missions since I’m dying minimum 3 times per attempt. And I haven’t even mentioned the missions with a timer that are nearly impossible to complete with the time it takes to respawn and get back. At this point I just quit and reload my save when I get one of those.
For a game that has been so fun/well designed up until this point, I feel like I must be missing something and/or doing something wrong to be getting this experience.
Is there any way to return fire on the Grox ships without starting a war with them?
Similarly, is there any way to utilize allied ships for these missions without starting a war with the Grox?
Is there something else super obvious that I’m missing?
If it matters, I was blue for every prior stage, making me a Trader.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this, praise Spode!

Discussion Start with the unexpected: Tribal Stage Standalone
Spore was great, but there were things we wanted from it we didn't get, so people have worked to make spiritual successors. They either start at the beginning (cell stage) and get bogged down in feature creep, or they start with the part most people enjoy (creature stage) and it becomes mostly a clone with less impressive features.
When it was coming out, I was saying that maybe trying to do everything in one game was the wrong idea. Not that, in the end, they would all link together, but dividing the attention was the problem. That they needed to focus on one stage at a time, and make that stage, on its own, a full, complete, and fun to play game. Then, you could set it up so it could pull assets from earlier stages, and pass them to the next.
I would start with tribal, simply because it was the least fun stage. it was an afterthought. You couldn't customize anything other than a basic outfit. The gameplay was still "kill or befriend" but they tried to make it "tricky" by having to click the right sequence... like a Simon game where you don't have all the buttons at first.
I would remake that stage as its own standalone game, knowing full well that it would have a creature stage before it and a civilization stage after it (perhaps a town where agriculture mattered more than vehicles... farming was left completely out).
We start with humans. Boring, standard, familiar. Remake the tribal stage using humans. Then start fixing things: same model, all look the same. We need options for gender differences. Clothing differences. Members whose job it is to craft things. Customizable weapons, instruments, huts, village layouts.
Once it is up to a playable, fun game... swap out the humans. Put in the most non-human species you can come up with. Eridians. Heptapods. Birrin. Puppeteers. Flying creatures. Swimming creatures. Tall, short, fast, slow, with hands, without hands, with lots of hands, tentacles, lots of feet, no feet. Then play it again. What features need to be changed or expanded to work with this new species? Do it again with a third species. Then a fourth. Make it feel natural for whatever species you put in there. If it looks good for one, but looks weird for another, fix it to switch between them or be universal (why is a species that picks things up with its mouth making the same tools as creature with hands?). A tribal game that can work for any species you add into it. If you do that, then it will be ready for when custom species are included in an earlier stage.
And with all the variation, you now know how you will need to design the civilization stage to address all of these features. It won't feel tacked on, shoved in, playing simon just to get "aggressive, friendly, or balanced" status.
Create a civilization in the middle, then work your way out one game at a time. Make a game that can tie to all the other games, but also stands on its own two, three, four, or whatever, feet.

Discussion I'm a solo dev building a creature evolution roguelite where you pick how you evolve
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey all,
I'm the solo dev of HATCHED, a creature evolution roguelite inspired by the creature stage of Spore.
I've always loved games where you get to play as a creature, and HATCHED is my take on going all in on that. You can be a flyer, a snake, an inchworm, a gorilla-style knuckle-walker, and a lot more. Every time you beat a boss, you're offered a choice of abilities that evolve your creature, both in how it looks and in how it plays.
Every run starts as a different creature, and you'll find new combinations of abilities and bones that change how those abilities work.
Thanks to the mods for letting me share this here. Happy to answer anything about how the game or the creatures work :)
