Miscellaneous Put the new Roval terra clx 3 on my creo 2 (front not rear) due to damaged rim replacement. Someone tell it's gonna be okay even though it's not e-bike approved.

In my country the motor is detuned to comply with regulations. My creo weighs 11.9kgs too now so I guess it's a bit lighter and closer to an acoustic gravel bike weight. Any engineers want to napkin math me saying it's gonna be okay to ride a non approved electric bike rim with my bike.

Story Time Future Shock for commuting

I just got a Creo with the current-gen Future Shock. This is a commuter bike, so I'm riding on pavement, but NYC pavement so there are plenty of bumps for a suspension to absorb.

I've been riding in NYC on stiff road bikes for about 20 years, so I'm used to the terrain. After a few rides, trying the shock at the max and min settings, I can't say I'm noticing much of a difference compared to my road bikes. I'm thinking about doing the delete to save a few grams and lower the stem.

Could it be that the FS useful more for constant vibrations on gravel, as opposed to the occasional bump?

Bike Photos S-WORKS Tarmac SL8 - Color

Hi!

I can’t decide between those two colors. Both frames are reduced as the SL9 is on the market. The gloss dolomite is a bit cheaper. I am 35 and male. I would like to ride the bike for quite a while and it will also be in my living room on the wall. What is more future proof and special? What would you choose and why? Any experience in real life for the colors?

  • Gloss Dolomite Metallic / directional brush / blue majesty metallic
  • Gloss Carbon / red to gold blurred speckle / metallic white silver

Thank you very much!

Story Time Specialized Return Limbo?

Pretty annoyed. I called specialized customer care 3 times in past 2 weeks. I had ordered a Diverge 4 Comp Carbon but changed my mind. I called them ahead of time before delivery to tell them to cancel the order and do a return. I also called the bike shop so they knew not to assemble the bike at all.

8 days go by and nothing. I call again they say they couldn't get ahold of the shop and would call them later that day?

Confused I called the bike shop to make sure they had no assembled the bike. The bike shop told me the bike never assembled and not just that they spoke to a Specialized customer care representative 8 days ago and told the bike shop they would process the return.

I called them once again today for a third time. I asked them what was going on. They told me that they needed someone to physically go to the store because they couldn't get a hold of someone at the store.

Just so you know the bike shop is run by great people and they answer calls any time. I asked them why then did the bike shop already told me they spoke to specialize over a week ago and said the return would be processed.

Couldn't get an answer back from them. They again just repeated they would reach out later in the day.

Am I crazy or am I justified in feeling upset? Like what even is this customer service? I never dealt with this before man. I just want my money back.

Hi,
Can you please verify the authenticity of this Roval Rapide Cockpit? I see that “width” is written wrong and I suspect it’s a copy. Any earlier versions look like that?

Thanks for your help.

Which Gear? Upgrading to the Roval Rapide (Non Cockpit)

I’m currently on a Specialized Allez Sprint comp which i’ve been loving. I’m looking to upgrade my handlebars to the Roval Rapide. For some fun and weight reduction. My current handlebars are the ones the bike came with 42mm alloy drop bars. If i upgrade is there anything to be aware of from a fit perspective? Also I see there are some on the aftermarket. Anything to watch out for if I go that route?

Bike Photos Buy a old new crux

Hey everyone,
I’ve got the chance to buy a brand‑new 2022 Specialized Crux. The seller is offering it with a Shimano GRX 12‑speed setup.

Do you think it’s worth going for a crux new at this point, or would you recommend looking at other options?

Bike Photos New bike day (Again) - S-works Tarmac SL9 RTP

Post image

Landed a decent-ish deal on an SL9 RTP frame, decided to move my SL8's build over to the SL9. Should be in the hole only $2000-ish once that SL8 frame gets sold, judging by current market prices.

6.61kg including cages and pedals.

The Kore wheels are theoretically still only temporary, I don't want to keep $500 wheels on an S-works forever either. But, well, they're 1200g and have performed amazingly, so...

In any case, this now puts me at two SL9s with completely identical fits, just one with Dura-Ace Di2 and one with SRAM Red XPLR for when I'm feeling more adventurous. This might be the final form of my stable for a good few years.

Which Gear? Crux 4 build questions??

Good idea, or bad idea?

I damaged my Allez Sprint frame in a crash and have been considering swapping all the components to an S-Works Crux 4 frameset to have an all-road. I live in South Florida and mostly ride on the road, but I want to be more capable of hitting unpaved trails and accessing hard-packed gravel canal access roads. Checking to see if the following components would fit:

11-speed SRAM Red eTap disc brake (long cage)
Sram XG-1190, 11-32T rear cassette (current Zipp 302 road wheels)
Sram Red GXP, 50/34T front cassette

Story Time SL9 Custom Paint 5.9kg est

Well, after what seems like an eternity, my new SL9 is finally getting close to being finished!

I originally pre-ordered the frame before the SL9 was officially released. I went for a 54cm in the factory Carbon / Red to Blue / White colourway.

To be honest, I wasn’t particularly bothered about the factory colour. I was happy to take whatever was available in my size, as I’d always planned to have it custom painted anyway.

The frame was finally shipped on 14 August, straight to Stuart at OOEY Custom Paint, who’s a Specialized-approved painter.

Originally, I was told the paintwork would take around four weeks. That eventually turned into six weeks, but these things happen.

Once the painting was finished, getting the bike built turned into another waiting game. My usual mechanic was busy, I went away on holiday, and then I ended up being ill.

The frustrating thing was that I’d already had every single component sitting there ready for the build!

Then came the handlebars!
I’m using my THM Aero handlebars from my previous SL8, which I’ve also had repainted in gloss black. They originally come with a visible 3K carbon weave finish.
Unfortunately, the THM spacer I’d previously used on the SL8 isn’t compatible with the new SL9 spacer stack.
I contacted THM in Germany, who confirmed they hadn’t yet developed a suitable spacer for the SL9.
So I ended up having to send both my existing THM spacer and the new SL9 spacers over to Germany so they could design and 3D-print a compatible solution.
Thankfully, they’ve now done that, and the new spacer was finally shipped today!
So, fingers crossed, the bike might actually get built within the next week!

Now, something I found quite interesting was the frame and fork weights.
All measurements are for my 54cm frame, and the frame weights exclude the hardware.

Original factory paint:
Frame: 714.6g
Fork: 385.2g

Completely stripped of paint:
Frame: 600g
Fork: 353.4g

I was actually quite surprised to see the bare frame weighing just 600g. I hadn’t realised it was quite that light!

After the custom paintwork:
Frame: 683.6g
Fork: 378.3g (uncut steerer)

The new paint is a translucent sparkle green, which still allows the raw carbon underneath to show through.
Interestingly, despite being repainted, the finished SL9 frame actually weighs less than it did with the original factory paint!

For comparison, my previous SL8 frame weighed 701g in its original maganta finish. After I had that repainted in transparent green over the raw carbon, I believe it came in at around 708g.
So the new SL9 frame is actually lighter than my previous SL8, even after the custom paintwork.

As for the complete build weight, I’m estimating somewhere around 5.9kg based on all the components.

Obviously, that remains to be seen once everything is assembled, and I’ll get it on the scales when it’s finished.
It’s certainly been a longer process than I originally anticipated, especially considering I had all the parts ready to go!
Hopefully, there won’t be any more surprises, and I’ll finally have the bike built this week.
I’ll share the full build, component list and final weight once it’s finished.

Tech Help Future Shock headset collar position

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey,

my bikes rides just fine but recently I inspected my future shock and – for me – it looked like the headset collar is a bit too high. A 2-mm hex key fits perfectly into the slot marked with a red X. So I asked Specialized and they said it's indeed not right and should be fixed. I then downloaded the manual and it says: "… To ensure the collar and steerer tube holes are aligned, place a 2 mm hex key through the holes before installing the locator bolt".

So it seems correct to me that a 2 mm hex key fits into the marked spot?! Is everything fine? How does your future shock/headset collar position looks like?

Which Bike? Having concerns about sizing

For context: I am a 5’7”-5’8” male with a 32” inseam

I found this specialized allez sprint on marketplace in decent condition and for a decent price.
My question is will this bike fit me? should I go with a 54cm bike, or should I look for a 52cm?
My fear is being too big for a 52, and being too small for a 54. If you were in my position, would you buy it?

Which Gear? Fenders/Mudgards for Sirrus X 5.0 — what fits?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for fenders/mudguards for my Specialized Sirrus X 5.0, preferably clip-on ones since I'm running tires that are close to the frame's clearance limit.

I've been looking at SKS clip-on options, but I'm not sure if they'll fit properly because of the frame shape, especially around the downtube. Also, if I decide to go with full-coverage fenders instead, will any compatible model work, or do I need to get Specialized-specific ones? I'm not sure how universal the mounting points and frame clearance are on this bike.

Has anyone fitted clip-on fenders to a Sirrus X 5.0?

Fitting Help Rapide Cockpit Help (38CM vs 40CM)

Size 56 Tarmac SL7 owner here. I’m looking to upgrade to the Roval Rapide cockpit but can’t decide between 38 cm and 40 cm bars.

I’m 183 cm tall with 42.5 cm-wide shoulders, but my current 420 mm stock bars feel too wide.

Has anyone with similar shoulder measurements made the switch to 380 mm bars? How did it feel, and would you recommend it?
Thanks!
