6 - 12 months is all our training and excellent sleep gonna be ruined

My baby was sleep trained at 5 months via Ferber. He’s now 11 months and since about 6 months he’s slept like a dream - naps on schedule, slept through the night 11-12 hours.

He has HFM right now and sleep is OUT THE WINDOW. It’s 10:30pm and he’s slept 15 minutes since his bedtime at 8. He’s just too busy screaming and can’t be settled. I go in to intervene because he’s sick and in pain. Am I creating a genuine bad habit and gonna struggle to get back on track once he’s better? Or are all sleep ruled out the window when they’re sick and in pain?

I could use some solidarity as I sit here watching him on the monitor sitting up screaming and crying but also fighting sleep :(

6 - 12 months Only sleeping through the night every other night

• Upvotes

8.5 months and sleep trained. 3/4/4. We are struggling with split nights. We have already cut naps to 2h15 and extended total wake time by 1 hour this week and it hasn’t helped. She will sleep through the night every other night, the night after a split night. She’s up any time between 12 and 3am, and she can be up for hours. If I leave her in her crib she screams for hours, if I take her out she’s just wide awake. She’s not sick or teething as far as I can tell. If you’re reading this PLEASE advise. Please please. I’ve written several posts now. I’m so god dam tired and I can’t deal with this screaming. Before all this started she was sleeping through the night for about a month. I’m doing this by myself I have no help.

4 - 6 months 1st night CIO: fell asleep within 15 min, but 3 wakes

• Upvotes

My twins turned 16 weeks adjusted yesterday and we decided to remove their paci and sleep train using CIO. Would like to hear your thoughts on our first night.

Night 1 review: Surprisingly, the falling asleep part was easy, but there were more hungry wakes. Is this common when starting sleep trying? If yes, what could be the reason?

We fed the babies at 7pm (7:45pm bed time), 10pm dream feed, then... 01u boy twin woke and seemed hungry so fed both; 04 girl twin woke from hunger so fed both, and finally 06:30 girl twin woke from hunger so fed both. This became their start of the day (normal start of the day is 7am).

We tried to let them fuss it out for 5 min, but did not want the twins to wake up each other (also did not want to disturb our neighbouring flats..). Finally, the baby that woke from hunger drank 3+ ounces each feed.

Girl twin has always been able to fall asleep independently, but very attached to her paci, so the sleeptraining was mostly about removing the paci. Boy twin is our hungry boy, increasingly more attached to paci too and always needed stroking belly/forehead for sleep. We follow 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 1.75 (roughly, not always easy to monitor due to twins, or just making excuses lol).

Thanks for the thoughts.

4 - 6 months Screaming During Nap Training

We sleep trained my 5.5 month old son two weeks ago and it went perfectly. Took him only 2 nights to learn to fall asleep without crying in less than 5 minutes. He fully sleeps through the night from 8:00pm-6:30am (we wake him up) and will occasionally wake to eat sometime between 3:30-4:30am.

We are now on day 5 of nap training and it not going as easy. He falls asleep for his naps independently each time, but not before scream crying his head off for 5-10 minutes every time. He is now at the point where he will start crying before we even put him in the crib. And he has started to scream cry going to bed at night. I know it’s great that he can put himself down, but the crying is so hard to listen to, and he starts day care here in a week and a half and I can’t imagine they will let him scream the way he currently does before falling asleep.

Is there any hope of him doing what he does at night and just rolling over and going to bed? How do we get him to stop crying as part of the nap process?

Schedule is:
2.25/2.25/2.25/2.25/2.5

Awake: 6:30am
Asleep: 8:00pm

Even in the crib, naps are only 30 minutes long. Sometimes will stretch a single one to 60-90 minutes but still very unpredictable.

4 - 6 months Sleep training while rolling

My baby just turned 4 months. She can roll back to tummy but gets real mad because she can't roll back. She usually flips herself on her tummy at night and wakes up crying. Can sleep training help with this? How would I even get her to fall asleep independently if she keeps flipping herself on her tummy and getting mad?

6 - 12 months 5am starts please help :(

Hello. My baby 8m has been waking up at 5am for the past 3 months. Sometimes I can pat him back to sleep, sometimes I can’t. When I do, he sleeps another hour, but I never pat for more than 20 mins. He is still tired when he wakes up. I’ve tried
-capping day sleep
-extending last wake window
-keeping him in the dark until 6am
-keep Nap 1 at 08:30

What else can I do? He’s still tired. It’s habitual so how do i break that habit. He is only getting 11.5 hours total sleep on average because i keep aggressively capping his day naps in an effort to get him past 5am.

He currently is still on 3 naps because he can’t obviously stretch from 5am-7pm without a bridge nap.

His naps are relatively short, 45mins-1hr so his day looks something like this

Wakes up at 5-5:30
Nap 1 8:30-0915
Nap 2 12:30-1:30
Micronap 3:45-4
Bedtime 7:30

Please help :(

1-2 years old Night wakes after ferber

Hi, we sleep trained our 14mo about a month and half ago using ferber with great success.

However, she still sometimes wakes in the middle of the night (as seen on the baby monitor) and i find myself at a loss on how to handle these wakes..

It usually starts woth some whimpering and progresses quickly to sitting or standing in her crib, sometimes silently, sometimes whimpering, sometimes calling mama. Usually not full on crying. I obviously wake and am conflicted about coming in the room or not and usually by the time I make a decision shes already laying back down and closing her eyes. But this cycle might continue for an hour or two where every 20 minutes or so she wakes for a few minutes, calls for me then goes back to sleep. The few times I did enter the room it seems to make her more upset. And when I opted not to enter the room, I found her with a poopy diaper or her pacis on the floor (so these would be legitimate reasons to wake and things I could have easily taken care of if I came in the room).

So I guess id love some thoughts on how to handle these wakes or examples how you guys do it with your ferber babies.

Thanks!

4 - 6 months How hard does your LO cry before sleeping?

My LO is 4.5 months. Since she was tiny I have mostly put her down drowsy but awake, with a dummy, and she has mostly been able to settle herself to sleep peacefully. When she turned 4 months I decided to ditch the dummy, and put her down drowsy but awake without it to see how she would get on. She cried for 8 minutes then fell asleep. Since then, I have put her down fully awake, with no dummy for every nap and bedtime. She has always fallen asleep in less than 15 minutes. However... she is crying HARD in that time.. not fussing, no powering down sounds, just hysterical crying for a few minutes and then suddenly switching off and falling asleep. Is this ok..? It's very tough to listen to even if it's not for very long .. but the dummy was beginning to become a bit of an issue because it would wake her in the night when it fell out.

We are doing roughly 2 hour wake windows and currently transitioning from 4 to 3 naps.

4 - 6 months What are you doing during wake windows

So my 5.5 month old gets pretty fussy when he’s tired… and I’m trying to keep the windows as recommended by this sub but he gets so fussy towards the 2 hour mark. For example, we might shoot for the 2-2.5 hour mark but he gets fussy at 1.5 and shows signs he’s tired (getting ready to cry, rubs eyebrows, etc) What do you do during wake windows to keep your little ones amenable towards the end of their windows? Exclusively bf, not sleep trained, generally looks like 2/2/2/2.5 but trying to extend the windows as recommended

We do a carrier walk a day, tummy time, reading, listening to music… but when he starts to get tired he just mostly is fussy/increasingly cries

Thank you in advance!

Edit: oh and could this be teething related? He’s super drooly and sucking his fingers a lot but no teeth yet…

6 - 12 months Sleep school worked for three days. We came back home and it’s gone completely backwards.

Went to sleep school the other week with my 6 1/2 month old and I’d say he started improving from night one.
Came home and maybe we took one step back, but then the next two days we’re good.
Honestly, the last three days has been a complete Shamuzzle.
He might go down for the first one or two hours of the night and then after that he’s up what feels like every 40 minutes sometimes less but at max may be an hour and a half.

He also learned to roll the last two days and is attempting to inchworm so maybe it’s because he’s learning skills?

At sleep school, we started to follow a feeding routine that I feed him at the start of every wake period.
So not whenever he wants.

Also at sleep school he was roughly doing one 1 1/2 hour nap and then too short ones like 20 to 30 minutes long.
At home he’s been roughly sleeping 30 minutes or less per nap so in total he’s probably getting one and a half hours a day sometimes two.
Sleep school taught in a way which was responding to their cues.
continuing to do this at home but he isn’t having it.

Blood curdling screams when we don’t pick
Him up.
He didn’t even want booth hw just wants me in bed.

His in the pink bar phase of the wonder weeks leap not sure if that means anything leap 5

Right now sleep routine consists of

Wake up for the day (when he wakes 7:30-8:30)
On his own in his bed is normally 7:30
If he comes into bed with me he can sleep till 8:30

Then two hour wake window
Example today he woke 8;30
First nap is 10:45 roughly

He just started solids too so I have him a few tea spoons of a veggie puree earlier
He will go to bed roughly when he woke up 8:00ish

Yesterday he went to bed earlier than wake time because his day naps were so short

So he woke up at 8 but I put him down at 7

6 - 12 months 8.5-month-old still waking frequently after night feed despite being sleep trained

Hi everyone!

My LO is 8.5 months old and sleep trained. I’m looking for some advice on her night wakings.

Our current schedule is 2.5/3/3.5, and baby will usually wake up around 7:30 AM. Bedtime is between 7–8 PM.

Typically wakes up around 3–4 AM for a feed.
However, after that feed, she sleeps for a maximum of 2 hours before waking up again.

When she wakes, she doesn’t self-settle and can cry for around 30 minutes. She will only go back to sleep after nursing.

I’m confused about why this is happening since she is already sleep trained.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to her schedule or something else?

She has started this since the last few days. In the past was able to sleep independently until 7/7:30 in the morning.

Would love to hear your experiences and any suggestions. Thank you!

1-2 years old 14mo waking a few hours after bedtime, wide awake and upset. Did we go to one nap too early?

My 14-month-old goes down fine at bedtime, but wakes a few hours later upset and wide awake and restless. Sometimes he's also restless in the early morning.

At 13 months we moved to one nap because bedtime kept creeping later, up to 9:15pm sometimes. His old schedule was 3 / 3.5 / 4.5 hour wake windows with two naps.

Current schedule is a 4 hour wake window, then the nap, then a 6 hour wake window, then bed.

I've tried bedtime after only 5 hours from the nap, but he just won't fall asleep until he's had about 10 hours of total awake time. It's like his body won't allow it earlier. I also tried stretching the morning window to 4.5 hours for a week, and he was a screaming mess the whole time, so it never took.

Other context: we rock to sleep. We tried CIO consistently for a week and it didn't work for us. He had vaccines 3 days ago, I think I might be seeing molars, and our doctor says he's advanced in his motor skills. My husband has comforted him the last few nights and he said he calms down when the soft red light is turned on.

ETA: They sleep in their own room in a crib. Wake-up is usually 8am. Nap from 12pm-2pm then bedtime between 7:30 and 8PM. Uses pacifier but is upset even when finding the pacifier at night. Night weaned.

Did I move to one nap too early? Or is this just babies being babies with all the changes happening at once?

6 - 12 months Periods of glorious STTN bookended by horrendous regressions/sleep imposions.

My 9.5 mo old was up every 2 hours the last couple nights and won't stay down in the crib after 3.5 weeks of sleeping through the night (self-settling at bedtime and when waking during the night)!

This happened 5 weeks ago too- we had a really bad period, then he dropped a nap and started STTN again. I figured that was an 8 mo regression and we had made it to the other side. What's going on? Another regression? He has a cold, so could be congestion/cough- could that explain it?

Dreading another night like last couple.

Schedule:

3/3/3.3ish

Morning Wake: 6:15 AM

Nap 1: 9:19 AM – 9:51 AM (32 min)

Nap 2: 12:55 PM – 3:24 PM (2 hours 29 min)

Asleep: 6:45 PM

He really hates staying up last 6:45 pm but we usually get a 3.5ish hour wake window before bedtime. And 2.5-3 hours of daytime sleep. In good periods he'll happily sleep 12 hours at night but then it just...implodes for a bit. Help!

2+ years old Need serious help with my toddlers sleep

I have a 2 year old and an 8 week old. My 2 year old will be 3 in March. Before baby was born, toddler would take 45 minutes or more to go to sleep. Either my husband or I would lay in bed with him until he fell asleep. Between 1-3 am he would usually wake up screaming and I would bring him into my husband’s and I bed.

Once baby was born, my husband who has spent the past year recovering from insomnia, started sleeping with our toddler while I did all night wake ups with baby. I exclusively breastfeed, so it was ok with me to be doing all the wake ups while he took care of toddler.

My husband periodically gets pretty bad night terrors. Around 2 weeks after I had the baby, they started to flare up. On 2 separate nights, he woke up in the living room holding our toddler. He had a night terror and unknowingly brought him into the living room. After the second time of it happening, we both agreed that he cannot sleep with toddler anymore.

Since then, me, baby, and toddler have been sleeping in the same room. Baby in bassinet and me/toddler in bed together. My husband has been sleeping alone in toddlers room.

For more context, my toddler goes to a preschool Monday-Thursday 9 am to 3pm. On days he goes there, he naps from 1pm to 2:30 and will not go to sleep until 9:30 or 10pm. He is wired with so much energy. On days he doesn’t go, we skip nap and he falls asleep by 7:30.

I really would like to get my toddler to sleep in his bed again and through the night. My 8 weeks old luckily is only waking 1 or 2 times a night.

I don’t know what to do. Please give me your advice and thoughts.

6 - 12 months When do they stop crying themselves to sleep?

Baby is 6mo, we’ve done Ferber.

He’s always asleep within 20min of putting him down

But even after two weeks he still cries for a while before settling and falling asleep.

When does this stop, cause it’s breaking my heart

Edit for more info:

Baby sleeps in his crib, in his nursery. Goes to bed between 8-9 (depending on his cues) and up between 6-7am with 2/2.5/3/3 wake windows

4 - 6 months Staying calm through sleep training

EDIT - I so appreciate sleep training advice, but I’m mostly looking for advice to figure out how to keep myself calm during this process. Thank you!

I’m a nanny for a 4.5 month old and the parents are wanting to sleep train using whatever method will work. I’ve sleep trained babies before with CIO, pick up/put down, crib side soothing, etc. so I’m somewhat familiar with what to do. This baby has been swaddled every nap and every night until a few days ago and cant seem to get past the startle reflex. I’ve tried laying her down awake and sometimes she can get herself to sleep, but most days I end up getting her to sleep and laying her down, but then of course she wakes up after 30/40 minutes and won’t go back to sleep.

today I fought with her for almost an hour because she just would NOT go to sleep! She’d get close, startle and then start screaming again. I found myself getting extremely frustrated and I’m just not sure how people manage to stay calm and not give in to just rocking them - especially with pu/pd. Any tips for this?

2+ years old Advice to sleep train 2 year old

My son is 26 months old. We sleep trained around 11 months with full CIO and it was mostly successful. Unfortunately his nanny ended up undoing nap training, and around 18 months he had a regression so we got back to having to rock him to sleep for nights as well. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, we just bring him to our bed because we are too tired to deal with it.

He started day care a couple of months ago and has learned to sleep independently there, usually from 1-2:30. At night he’s usually asleep between 8:30-9 and wakes up any time between 6-6:30 (sometimes earlier, generally while teething).

I want him to be able to go to sleep independently because we’re approaching the days where I will no longer be able to transfer him into his crib. I’m not sure what the best method is at his age, his separation anxiety is peaking right now. He is around 34” so will reach the crib’s height limit soon and will need his bed converted. He hasn’t tried to climb out yet and still wears a sleep sack. We are also planning to potty train soon. Trying to not do all the transitions at once.

Here are my questions - just wondering what worked for your toddler:
- Do we do CIO again or should we try Ferber, which he did not like the first time? A different method?
- Do we leave a light on or do total darkness? (Not sure if one of those red light/green light things will work? For those that do this, does the red light stay on all night?)
- Do we leave something in his crib aside from the stuffies that are normally there? He’s never really used them as comfort items, at least not regularly.

Thanks for your help and advice!

6 - 12 months Any suggestions?

My lo is about to 1y, we do cosleep. We usually wake up at 6:30am, first nap around 9:50am. However we can’t get him to sleep more than 30 minutes most days ! Second nap he’ll take around 2pm, and again most days it’s only 30 minutes. I’ve been trying to keep him up so we usually go to sleep around 7pm, but he still has 3+ wake ups a night! Sometimes even 10 times 😵‍💫. He has been teething really hard too. I’m debating adding a third nap again around 4:45 pm just cause he’s not getting a lot of day time sleep.

He has only taken a 2hr nap a handful of times his entire life. It’s usually only 30min-1hr naps. I set the room up so it’s nice and dark, cool, and have white noise on-still only 30 minutes. He only really gives me two good nights of rest (for both of us) a month. The other days it’s multiple wakes. He’s sitting up and crying and I’ll rock or nurse him back to sleep. Honestly the only thing that’ll get him to fall back asleep quickly is to nurse him. We have the same nighttime and nap time routine. I just don’t know how to help him get more sleep, I know he needs it. I need it too lol

6 - 12 months Sleep training help

Need help sleep training our baby!

LO is 7 months old, exclusively breastfed, nursing to sleep and bed sharing. I have tried multiple times with multiple bottles to bottle feed her but that’s for another post. She has been waking up multiple times during the night - usually within an hour of going to bed and then anywhere between 1-2 hours after that even including middle of the night. I have tried waiting a few minutes in the middle of the night to wait before soothing her before I nurse her but found this to not be effective. She just escalates her crying. Also, she wakes up around 7-730 and found around 630-650am she would start whimpering, doing little cries. I don’t know if she wants to wake up then but I can usually hush her and if that does not work I will nurse her and she will maybe sleep for another 30 mins.

Nap schedule looks like 2.5/2.5-3/3. We contact nap or I put her on our bed and I just sit next to her and that helps her sleep throughout her nap.

Normally, I would nurse her to sleep. But last night we attempted a Ferber method for sleep training and this is how we did it. After bath time, I nursed her then we read a book, put her in her sleep sack and then in the crib. After 5 mins, she started crying and I set my first interval at 2 mins then 4, then 8, then 10 and then 12 mins. I would be in the room for 1 minute only. She doesn’t stop crying even when I or my husband go in the room to comfort her. We tried hushing, patting, cuddling and rocking her during the 1 minute we’re in the room with her. This went on for 1hr and 25 mins and she fell asleep. However, she woke up crying 40 mins after and I timed 3 mins before I went in. I went in and stayed for maybe 3 mins then left. Set timer for 10 mins and went back in as she was still crying. I caved and just nursed her. She got drowsy and her sucking slowed so I unlatched her and put her in the crib. She woke slightly so I just rubbed her belly and hushed her. She fell asleep so I left the room but within 10 mins she woke again. At this point we gave up and I just nursed her to sleep and put her in her crib. She’s now been asleep for 15 mins with the occasionally stirring and me hushing and patting her belly.

Now I don’t know if we are unsuccessful because our method is incorrect or maybe the check ins just does not work with her. She never really stopped crying when we checked in. She only did when we would stay in the room for a little longer and picked her up. Is CIO a better method for her? This makes me sad as I broke down crying during this whole Ferber ordeal. I felt so horrible watching her cry in the monitor. Or maybe we were attempting to much with her sleeping in the crib and ferberising her the same night. I do have to mention that she has slept in the crib before when she was 4 or 5 months for maybe a couple of weeks before she went through a regression. She could also used to initially sleep in the crib during her first night time stretch. So the crib is not entirely unfamiliar to her.

I would appreciate any help or sleeping plans you guys can share that has worked with you baby.

6 - 12 months HELP!! Sleep trained 6.5 m/o still has frequent night wakings

Hi all — looking for some help here. I sleep trained my baby at 5 months old via CIO (Ferber was the plan but check-ins made her angry). She took to it well and goes down for sleep independently for naps and bed time. The problem is that she frequently has false starts (waking an hour or so after going down). She also often wakes a few times at night. Sometimes I feed her if she fusses/cries long enough and that seems to work so I can assume she was hungry (usually after midnight). Sometimes she just puts herself back to sleep after 5-10 mins (so maybe not hungry?). Sometimes she sleeps through the night without issue. I have not been able to identify any patterns that would explain this.

So here’s the relevant info:
Age: 6.5 months
Sleep trained via CIO at 5 months (sleeps in crib in nursery)
DWT: 7 a.m.
Current schedule: 2.25/2.5/3 (if on two naps) or 2.25/2.5/2.5/2.5 (if on three naps)
Bedtime routine: PJ’s/diaper, breastfeed, sleep sack, book, sound machine/lights out, put baby in crib and leave

I know these wake windows seem short but I really struggle to even make it to these. She gets SO tired and grumpy.

Any ideas why we might be having frequent night wakings? Presumably one waking might be to eat (we try to load her up on calories before bed but this does not seem to change anything). Aside from eating, I’m not so sure what could be going on.

6 - 12 months 12 month old crib refusal

My son will be 1 y/o in just over a week and we've hit a huge roadblock with crib sleep. He was going down awake and falling asleep independently for most naps and every bedtime for months, but we've fallen back on old habits and are stuck in a spiral of rocking him to sleep again. This has been going on for about a week, ever since he learned how to crawl, is standing unassisted, and learned how to stand in his crib. It's taken over an hour every night to get him to sleep - the second he hits the crib, he loses it and instantly stands up until he's rescued. We gave in because he's refusing to get down and go to sleep, either because he's having trouble getting down or because he's going through a new mobility protest. Either way, we've felt there's no other solution because it would go on for hours if we didn't interfere and help. Any advice on how to handle this and get back to independent sleep? We start daycare in a month and a half and I'd like to have him back to falling asleep on his own (for his own sake!).

More info: Bedtime routine is bottle, change, books, bed. We are still on 2 naps, 3.5/4/4.25. Crib in his own room.

1-2 years old Help! 1yo wakes multiple times a night: nursing, co-sleeping, bouncing and crib in our room!

Hi everyone, first-time mum here - my little one turns 1 in just 2 days!

Our current schedule is roughly 3/3.5/4. He’s mostly self-weaned off breastfeeding, but since starting solid foods, he isn't super interested in milk during the day.

When he was a newborn, he slept in a bassinet right by my bed. Once he outgrew that, we bought him a crib, but he’s probably only slept in it 2 or 3 times total. Whenever I tried putting him down in it, he would scream bloody murder, so I ended up bringing him into our bed to co-sleep instead (which I now realise may have been a mistake). On top of that, we’ve stuck to bouncing him and feeding him to sleep. Whenever we transfer him to the bed for naps or bedtime, I have to give him a boob, otherwise he wakes right up on transfer and we have to start the whole exhausting process all over again.

He keeps waking up multiple times a night. Every single time, we have to bounce, feed (bottle - sometimes up to 240ml, sometimes just 60 - 90 ml), or nurse him just to get him back down, and sometimes it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to hours in the middle of the night.

To complicate things even further, our apartment isn't huge, so his crib is currently in our bedroom. I assume having him in our room makes sleep training a whole lot trickier?

We are absolutely at our wits' end with the lack of sleep and desperately need to sleep train ASAP. I would love some advice from parents who have been here:

  • What sleep training methods would you recommend for a 1-year-old with these night-waking, feeding, and transfer associations, whose crib is in our room (so will see us if he wakes in the middle of the night). And do you do the same thing with the middle of the night wakes as you do at the start of the night?
  • How do you break the "nursing on transfer" trap without triggering a massive meltdown? The reason we can't get him into his crib is due to this association specifically I think.
  • How long does it typically take to see progress with a toddler this age?
  • Is there anything we should do to prep before officially starting?
  • Does having the crib in our room mean we need to rearrange things first, or can it still work?

Any advice would mean the world right now!

1-2 years old 2 to 1 Nap Transition

We recently made the transition to 1 nap with my 14 month old. We decided to drop his morning nap since he was falling asleep later and later and his wake windows were lengthening so he would take a long time to fall asleep for his afternoon nap. He did great for 5 days. He would fall asleep around 12 and nap for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. This week his naps have been awful. One day he woke up after 45 min screaming, the next day he did sleep for 3 hours, and the last 2 days he has slept a little over an hour and still woken up screaming. He cries inconsolably for around 30 min after I get him up. I try to give him time to settle and go back to sleep but I get him after 10-15 min. Did anyone have a similar experience? Did it get better?

He may be teething. We think his molars have been coming in the past couple weeks, and he also is learning how to walk so I’m sure there are multiple factors. He just used to be an amazing napper.

4 - 6 months Sleep training twins

I’ve been following this sub for a while. Going to sleep train my twins when they turn four months (currently 3.5 months old). They have been horrible sleepers for a while. Best sleep was between weeks 6-8 when they did stretches of 2 or 3 hours. Since week 9 they only do 30 minutes at a time (day or night) with some occasional 1 hour stretches. I have been having to resort to cosleeping from 1am onwards to try and get some sleep (me and my husband do shifts when possible but we only have one bedroom so leaves him on the sofa).

Current schedule is 2/2/2/2/2 and naps are usually 30 mins (try to save one contact which fails or a longer pram nap mid day) so 2.5-3 hours total nap per day. Bedtime is 8pm and DWT is 7am (I’ve been waking them at this time every morning).

They are breastfed or have EBM with one bottle of formula before bed. Bedtime routine is bottle at 6:45, lights dimmed at 7, bath, book then nursery rhyme. Then say our night time phrase and white noise on. We been repeatedly trying drowsy but awake in day and night but they won’t sleep (unless in pram or car) so have to soothe in cot or put down asleep. One currently uses a dummy but hoping to get rid of this at sleep training and they’re both sucking on their hands to soothe now. They only feed (via bottle EBM) at midnight and 4am.

We are going to do CIO because I know check ins would upset them further. I had hoped they’d improve before this but they haven’t and this situation is unsustainable for us, have hurt my back and neck from bouncing them and lying flat on my back to cosleep them. I also feel as there are two it will be unsafe to cosleep when they start rolling.

My questions are - currently their cots are in the living room so we can get some undisturbed sleep in the bedroom before shift change. However we would move them to the bedroom as that’s where we want them to sleep - should we move them before sleep training starts or would doing daytime naps there be sufficient for them getting used to being in their cots in the bedroom.
Also looking for any tips on what to do the upcoming weeks before training to help. Should we look to travel to a grandparents to sleep training? We are in a flat and unsure if we should be worried about disturbing the neighbours.

sorry for the long post hopefully I covered everything!

4 - 6 months Getting baby to sleep in own crib

My son is 5.5 mo and we’re currently in the process of sleep training with CIO. We tried gentler methods like pick up/put down and Ferber without much success. We’ve been doing CIO for a few days as well as separating eating from falling asleep by giving a bottle earlier in his nighttime routine. He falls asleep pretty easily, usually after 5ish mins of crying. He wakes up for the first time anywhere from 11pm- 2am, and falls back asleep while nursing.

The problem is that it’s impossible to transfer him back to his crib. Doesn’t matter if you put him back awake or asleep, he’ll scream for 20+ mins until your bring him back into bed with you. I’m not opposed to co sleeping in theory, but I find the c curl uncomfortable and have a hard time getting into a deep sleep. He sleeps fine if you let him cosleep or somehow manage to get him back to sleep in his crib.

We’re following a 2/2.5/2.5/3 nap schedule with a 7:30 bedtime and 6:30 wake up. He does good being in his crib for naps. He is still in our bedroom and I dont want to move him to his own room yet, I view that as a last resort option. I’m fine with a small handful of wakeups in the middle of the night, I just want him to go back into his crib so I can sleep well when he’s sleeping. Will sleep training eventually help with this, or are there other things we can try?
