I developed an alternative iOS app for Dock Pro

Hi everyone - my wife and I have been using the Dock Pro for about 2 years. We live in Denver and there is a lot of variability in temperature. That led to a couple of downsides with the default app:

* Sometimes we just wanted to run it for 30 or 60 minutes to warm up or cool down the bed. Or we were going to bed early or late and wanted a quick adjustment without changing our whole program.

* We also wanted it to turn back on in the morning to wake up, but did not want it to run all through the night. We found ways to do this with multiple programs, but it was difficult to manage, and difficult to swap programs at the last minute if we randomly had a hot or cold weather day.

* Finally, we were having some issues with program events not firing - the device staying on all day, etc.

Anyway, once Sleepme released the developer API, I decided to try controlling it myself. This evolved to creating an entire app (my first iOS app development).

I added features we wanted like a Quick Timer, real-time program edits, faster editing, and a timeline that visually highlights where you are in the program. I've also had fun coming up with other ideas like a Program Gallery with suggested programs, and I'm currently working on Control Center Widgets and an Apple Watch view for quick adjustments.

I have created this to be as robust and professional-grade as possible. Enterprise Cloud Computing and AI are my day job. That said, I'm not really here to hustle my app. My wife and I have been using it daily for several months, and we won't go back. We love it. I hope a few other people find it useful, too.

I've assigned a very modest cost to the app to justify continuing to develop it, and because there are costs to keep it running. Since the app doesn't run in the foreground all the time, I have to execute all timers and program events and push notifications in a cloud environment.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. There is a contact form if you have any ideas or comments. And most importantly, sleep well!

More Snooze Control updates

Hi fellow Chilipad users. I don't want to spam with self-promotion, but this app has become a passion-project and it is really fun to explore new possibilities - most of which were suggested by users in this community.

For anyone not familiar, Snooze Control is a third-party app that can control your Chilipad 1.0 or 2.0. It uses the official Developer API, but adds many extra features, including different types of programs, short-term timers, vacation holds, bedtime shifts, iOS widgets, Apple Watch control, etc.

I have recently added some new features:

• On-Demand Programs (in contrast to Scheduled Programs) for people with variable bedtimes or sleep routines.

• iOS Home Screen and StandBy Widgets for quick adjustments from your nightstand or Home Screen. It's hilarious, but these even work in CarPlay Widgets! Ping me if anyone finds a use for that, lol.

• Shortcuts and Siri integration to start an On-Demand Program as part of an shortcut, automation, or with your voice. "Siri, start my bedtime routine"

• Configurable 'Low Water Notification' time so you remember to refill before bedtime.

• Apple Watch app to make temperature adjustments or start a Quick Timer without even opening your phone. I use this if I wake up in the middle of the night hot or cold and want a quick 15 or 30 minute cycle.

Anyway, it's been a real pleasure to interact with the users, discuss new ideas, and hear how it is helping people in different ways. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or ideas:

Product Complaint Waking up from noise. How do you turn it off?

If I turn off the Chilipad in the middle of the night, the next sleep schedule change turns it back on. I can sleep with the noise of it running but I can’t sleep through the sound of it turning on. That’s an over site from Chilipad. It should only turn on at the beginning of a sleep schedule. It should never turn itself on in the middle of a sleep schedule after it’s been forced off by the user.

Dock Pro 1.0 not pumping

A few days ago, my Dock Pro 1.0 stopped pumping. The unit turns on, I get the water sucking noise, but then nothing happens. There is a quiet hum that is softer than when the unit functions correctly. I have tried purging the air from the system to no avail. I replaced the commonly failed valve. I have replaced the display board, control board, and power supply in the past six months. Thoughts on what the problem might be and how I can fix it?

DockPro shows Offline every night

My DockPro or at least this iteration is 4 months old and while it heats/cools and follows the schedule as it should, if I happen to wake up in the middle of the night (~2am-~4am?) and want to tweak the temperature, it shows “Offline”. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I’m open to any suggestions that don’t involve getting out of bed to reboot/restart. Thanks!

Dock Pro 1.0 just died 😢

As the title says, my 1.0 Dock Pro just died. It is about 2.5 yrs old, so of course it's out of warranty. Something with the power supply I'm guessing. Will not turn on at all. Died sometime before I woke up, and I cannot get it to power on again. I tried it in a wall outlet, tried a new power cord. Nothing. I emailed customer service, just asked me a bunch of stupid questions, like did I have water in the tank, like wtf? Of course I do. We'll see what happens with this one, but I am seriously considering switching to an 8 Sleep. They have a new version coming out tomorrow, the Pod 6. Looks great.

Product Complaint Someone please make a damn Alexa integration already 😈

I cannot be the only one who thinks it’s kind of insane that I have to fumble around in the dark for my phone just to change the temperature on my Chilipad.
I’m half asleep, finally comfortable, realize I’m too hot or too cold, and now I have to find my phone, get blasted in the face by the screen, unlock it, find the app, wait for it to connect, and adjust the temperature.
At that point I’m awake again. 😭
This thing is literally designed to improve sleep. Why can’t I just mumble, “Alexa, make my side 3 degrees colder,” without opening my eyes?
I love the Chilipad, but for something this expensive and this focused on sleep, voice control feels like such an obvious feature.
Please. Alexa, Siri, Google Home, Home Assistant, literally anything. Let me change the temperature without flashbanging myself at 3 AM.

Product Question Chilipad 2.0 dock freaked out when the water got low.

Post image

Has anyone had this happen? Should I be worried? Added some water this morning and I’ll see if it’s ok tonight. It would be awesome if it was smart enough to not do this in the middle of the night. To be clear, I didn’t not add water in the middle of the night and definitely not over and over again.

Chilipad 2.0 Maintenance

After my first month, I am really enjoying my ChiliPad 2.0! Today I performed the first maintenance and to my surprise the Operations Manual for the 2.0 dock does not require the dock and hydrolayer to be drained semi-annually, only the reservoir. This is a huge relief! I haven’t seen this mentioned before, so figured I would call it out.

Product Question Controller for Chilipad 2.0 update stuck

Just got our Chilipad 2.0 order today and everything is set up, but I ran into some issues getting the wifi connected on the controller. Once it finally connected to wifi, it started updating, and has now been showing the update in progress screen for over an hour now. I’ve tried unplugging and plugging it back in but that didn’t seem to have an effect. it just got to this screen again and seemed to get stuck.

Anyone else run into this issue or have a fix? I searched the support site and the subreddit but couldn’t really find much about the new controller at all.

Product Complaint Chilipad 2.0 LEAKS AFTER FIRST WEEK

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Today was the worst leak of all the leaks I’ve had so far. I received my unit around mid Aug. I read up online that some of the previous users had experienced leaks on their older model. 2.0 model just released and I was desperate so I purchased it and put their quick start sheet underneath in case of leak. After about a week, it leaked. And it continued to leak RANDOMLY on average every other day.

I contacted customer service, but I got a response of like an AI generated solution for their older model “Dock Pro”! (It just basically told me to run “Prime Hydrolayer” setting twice, which did nothing.) I let it go on to see if there were any patterns before I contact the customer service again, but the only pattern I’ve seen was that it leaks after it turns off from usage, not during. It’s dry before usage, dry when I wake up, puddle of water when I come back from work.

Longest days I’ve had without leak was 3 days. Guys… this is a +$1500 machine.. it failed within a week and their customer support was very underwhelming… I’ll post more photos of other days when I did decide to take photos. But the video is from today when I got back from work.

Chilipad 2.0

Last night was my wife's and my first night with the Chilipad 2.0. And it was amazing. I put it on the lowest setting and was literally freezing at 1 am. I had to turn my HEATER on! So lesson learned, I put it at 72 degrees now. My wife has hot flashes and she keeps saying "Fantastic!" lying on the Chilipad. She is one of the hardest please people I know (she's physically very sensitive), and can't sleep at night because of her hot flashes. Last night was her first time she was completely comfortable in bed. She and I actually had a fight when I ordered the Chilipad - she thought it was going to be another expensive waste of money (I've been trying lots of different bed solutions). She demanded I cancel the order. After last night, she can't stop gushing about it. She ended staying in bed all day too. To be clear, I'm not being paid to say this. I'm just a customer. But I had to come here to post about how happy we are with this purchase. It seems like I finally found the solution after years of searching.

Product Review Be careful drying 2.0 cover + customer support win

I just wanted to share a surprisingly good experience with customer support for the 2.0 cover.

I washed the cover for the first time. Cold wash, then medium dry just like the manual recommended. Turns out medium on my dryer was too hot and the cover melted in a bunch of places. It made the cover hard and sharp with a few large solid bunches. Basically it was trashed.

Support responded right away and sent a replacement cover. I got it about a week later. I did have to send back the destroyed cover but that makes sense.

Based on my experience, I'd recommend being mindful of how you dry the cover. Maybe low heat would be best for some dryers. My dryer typically has no problem with plastic fabrics, so I'm not really sure what happened.

Super hot this morning! Heat to wake malfunctioned?

I've had my chillipad 2.0 for a week and a half now. It's been mostly good. The pad has a little more of a sleeping-on-plastic feel than I was expecting, but not horrible, and the cooling is great. I have a schedule set up and my wake up time is set to 7:00am and I have the warm to wake (whatever it's called) option activated. There have been a couple nights when I've woken up a little warmer than I'd like, only to find that the dock turned itself off. I chalked that up to the presence sensor function in the night stand display thinking I got out of bed or something, so I recently turned that option off and it hasn't turned itself off again yet, so hopefully that's fixed. I've seen a couple people reporting similar issues on here. The heat to wake function has worked pretty well to where I'm decently warm and maybe slightly on the verge of sweating right at 7 when I need to get out of bed. It definitely makes me not want to stay in bed. I'm actually not sure I like it, but I've been leaving it on.

This morning was very different. I woke up at 6:30am (30 minutes early) glued to a scalding hot mattress and covered in sweat. It must have started heating at 6:15am or earlier, even though my wake up time is set to 7am. I'm not used to getting up before 7, so I guess I was still sleeping deeply enough for the temperature to get really high before it finally woke me up. The little night stand display had it at a temperature well over 100 degrees. I don't remember the exact temperature, because I was still groggy and trying to figure out what the heck even happened while trying to un-glue my legs from the frying pan I was stuck to, but it was beyond uncomfortable and crossing into painful territory. I cranked it down cold again but it was unbearably hot and I had to just get out of bed and start my day with 30 minutes less sleep than I should have had. I've turned off the heat to wake option now and just added an extra step to my schedule at 6:45 where it sets the temp to a reasonably warm, but not crazy temperature. Hopefully that helps, but I'm still confused about how it cranked itself up all the way more than 30 minutes before my scheduled wake up time. That sucked. Between having it turn itself off and now having it crank itself all the way up way too early, I'm starting to wonder if this is worth the cost and trouble.

When it works, I love the chili feeling. I used to wake up sweaty and have to stick a few limbs out of the covers and kind of titrate my temperature throughout the night by moving blankets on and off and this seems like it could eliminate that, allowing me to just sleep. I've got 3 kids 5 and under so sleep is at a premium. I'm happy to pay for something that helps me sleep better, but not if it's going to be doing crazy stuff all the time. Anyone else had this happen? Any thoughts on what went wrong? I double-checked my schedule and there was nothing that should have turned the heat up that early.

Product Question Dock Pro stopped working

I recently did the semi-annual maintenance for my Chilipad DockPro 1.0.

Sadly, when I went to fill it back up it wasn’t pumping any water and the pump was much louder than normal.

After some back-and-forth with customer service reps, I went ahead and replaced the main pump and the mini pump + check valve solenoid.

Sadly, it still doesn’t work and now I’m out of ideas and could really use some guidance.

Now, when I turn on the unit, the main pump runs fine (I can feel it vibrating when I have the enclosure semi-open. However, the new mini pump and check valve solenoid don’t appear to be running.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Cooling Sleep Toppers and Deep Sleep

My deep sleep is terrible - on my best night I get 40 minutes of deep sleep (out of 8 hours total) (as measured by my Apple Watch but the same has been true through multiple Fitbits, Pixel Watch, etc)

Did anyone else have this issue before buying one of these machines and did your quality of sleep improve after you started using this?

I frequently think that if my deep sleep were better, I wouldn't feel so tired during the day all the time.

Is the Cube still worth getting?

Seems like the Chilipad 2.0 is pretty problematic. I don't need bells and whistles, a hydronic cooling pad is more than enough. I just don't want to deal with leaks or broken equipment. I'm prob gonna demo the Cube but I figured I'd ask what people's experiences are with recently ordered Cubes as most of the discussion seems to be around the Chilipad.

Product Complaint I'm done with this after 3 units failed

This is my first post here. I got a Chilipad Dock Pro (must be 1.0) and started using it in March. It worked well until August. Then it started intermittently powering off and restarting, showing the firmware revision (05 39). Eventually it got to the point that it would not start, and the chassis was getting hot without even operating. I went through all the debugging steps with support and eventually sent it back and got a refurbished replacement. As soon as I powered the replacement on, it leaked water all over my carpet. I sent that one back and got another refurbished replacement. It worked fine for a few days and then developed the exact same problem as the original unit: intermittent restarting and then eventually the chassis getting hot without running. At this point, I'm done with support. I can't waste any more time on this. I'm just curious if my experience is a rare exception, or is this a common problem?

Chilipad 2.0 Hydrolayer bunching up

Just received my Chilipad 2.0 (half queen) last week and really want to like it. My biggest issue right now is that whenever I lay down on it, ithe hydrolayer immediately bunches up and crumples inward. It's not horrendous but definitely very noticeably not flat.

I've tried messing with the S-Clip lengths and smoothing it out and even with all 4 clips all the way tightened this seems to happen every time.

Anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this?
