Singularity is Nearer Scientists recently overturned a 59-year-old belief about the magnetic fields used to contain plasma in fusion reactors. Google gave their breakthrough to Gemini 4 agents. Within hours, the AI found new solutions that went beyond what the original researchers had discovered. The result: two new ways

"[...]As in all creative professions, this raises severe attribution and plagiarism questions. Moreover, without the willing mathematical physicists who must take care of their development and integration into the mathematical physical canon, AI-conceived ideas would never become fully alive and the crucial human transmission chain between mathematicians physicists would be lost.

We are witnessing a general threat to intellectual work, with misalignment between the outcome of the use of AI and its initial purpose. In many fields and activities, years of training have traditionally served not only to produce a final answer or product, but also to develop understanding and the ability to formulate new questions and ideas. However, building on a vast body of previous human work, AI systems are becoming increasingly capable of producing the results of such work directly, and these goals cease to align. The issues the mathematical physics community faces now are similar to issues that other scientific and creative professions are facing, and indicate issues that all of humanity might face: how to make sure that, as AI changes the way work is done, we do not lose sight of what that work was meant to achieve in the first place."

You know humans wrote the prompts, right? If something is "threatening" intellectual work it's human beings and capitalism. Because there are no frontier AI greedily rubbing their hands together and self-initiating research in the nefarious pursuit of economic disaster. We just keep asking them questions. So who are you mad at?

100% agree on your second statement lol. People have no idea it’s not AI that’s taking their jobs and making their life worse or whatever, it’s the human greed! As simple as that.

The hunger problem is already solved (nothing to do with AI) but still it’s the capitalistic society that prefers profits over living beings. THE DISTRIBUTION of food is the problem. There are people who’d happily throw food away but don’t wanna give it to other fellow humans/animals, prolly because they think other don’t deserve it or they haven’t earned it.
