Question Any more Harry Potter themed cafes/events in Shanghai? Also looking for HP friends!

Hello! I'm currently in Shanghai for school and was wondering if there are any Harry Potter themed cafes, events or other HP related places worth checking out!

I've done some research on XHS and already know about GOTIA, Owl Call and Apolli, but I was wondering if there are any other recommendations that I might have missed. I'd love to explore more HP themed places while I'm here!

I'm also hoping to find some people who'd be interested in going HP hopping with me, exploring cafes and events together and just yapping about Harry Potter hehe.

Preferably fellow Marauders, Jegulus and Drarry fans, but any HP fans are welcome!

Feel free to comment or DM me if you're interested!

Discussion Why are Shanghainese people so cold?

Last year, I worked in shanghai and whenever I tried to start a conversation with anyone they stare at me and immediately turn the conversation away, even thought we work in the same office. The only people whom they talk to seemed to be their family members. I also never seen anyone talk about anything personal in the office or chat about anything. Is it like this in the rest of China too, like people are so cold? I am also Chinese so I don’t understand why everyone is so cold to me

Discussion Looking for work in Shanghai at 24/female

I just wanted to share my experience.

I have been using the Chinese apps and WeChat and I also went to the foreigners work fair. But it is extremely tiring and not so promising I think. I feel like even though I speak Chinese on a native level (I’m half Chinese), and I have a bachelors from a technical university (from Germany), it is hard to find a job.

I have gotten deep enough into the apps that I found the jobs for the 美团 drivers lol and Starbucks intern positions. I have written three applications today + one email application + texted two WeChat accounts. A few days ago I wrote another 4-5 applications. Spanning from finance to music/entertainment to luxury and even entry-level management/consulting positions.

There are at least twenty more positions I want to apply to (and I will), but it feels like these job postings are all fake lol I feel like there’s something I am doing deeply wrong. I make a new CV for each application. I don’t use LinkedIn bc the variety of CVs that I have/jobs I apply to is so wide. I could use some contacts or meet some people but I’m a bit embarrassed to do that. No I have no work permit but I know that a Chinese company would/will take care of it if they want to.

Alright it’s a bit of a rant and seeking out if someone has had positive experience?

Question Looking for road bike rental

Want to bike around Shanghai with a road bike, doesn't need to be overly fancy. Can anyone recommend shops or resources to do so? A cursory search online didn't result in any leads

I want dress up, party with my girl friends and have an amazing night. What are your suggestions on where to go? I’m seeing a lot of different flyers but I don’t want to go to a random and potentially dud event. What are all the people who know what to do, doing? Looking for something cool and exciting

Discussion Bonsai Supplies in Shanghai?

Wondering if there are any bonsai specific or possibly gardening shops that sell bonsai supplies. I'm looking for a few nice pots for some of my trees and would rather spend a little more seeing the size in person than rolling the dice and having something from taobao delivered.

Question Studying at ZJU/SJTU

Hey people, I'm looking into applying to a control science and engineering masters at ZJU/SJTU (english taught). I have not yet messaged a supervisor but I know who I want to contact, I just need to refine some of my github projects (I hope it's not too late to contact supervisors?). I very much so admire the advancements in technology that ZJU/SJTU achieves, but some of the online reviews worry me. People say that the learning experience for an international student in China is not so good as professors don't teach that well, is there any truth in this nowadays? Does the university offer good english taught classes and environments? I understand it's China and things are supposed to be in Chinese, but is the experience actually world class? Thank you very much so for helping me!
