Question Giving a boss extra wounds so they don't get obliterated

I have a really cool Griffin ambush planned. How ever, my players are all knights in heavy armor with warhorses and typically obliterate the griffin in my test runs.

What can I do besides give them more wounds?

Resources / Tools Blood science enemies, missions and equipment

I'm GMing a post apocalyptic setting where medieval-level tech is normal, but anything more advanced is powered by the user's blood. This is called Hemoscience and it's basically technobabble with blood (kind of BetaX).

With this tech humans burned the planet and now they live in an artifact-town, going outside to get blood and resources.

I have basic weapons and equipment, and some enemies. There are bookeepers that store knowledge, psychics and the regular explorers so I'm looking for suggestions on enemies, missions and other equipment outside the just weapons i can use to give my players

Question Pathfinder Class Rules/Reference Material?

The question's simple, but I don't know if anyone has the answer, beyond the authors themselves.

Are there any guidelines/references/rules for creating classes the same way as they are in Savage Pathfinder? I know they're not listed in the book, but I didn't know if anyone had "cracked the code" or if an author put out a reference document.

I would like to experiment with creating more Pathfinder classes, with a final goal of using the same approach to potentially adapt Starfinder ones. (If they won't do it, I will lol). That said, I don't wanna go in "raw" with no guideline or starting point. I'd much prefer having a guideline of some kind to start from.

Question I need help understanding static values Vs rolls.

Hello there! I’m very new to Savage Worlds (played in a single session a few weeks ago, first time playing) and I’ve been excited, and trying, to learn the system for a little bit now. I’ve been a DM/GM/Director of other systems on n off for several years and SWADE has peaked my interest as a system I’d like to learn to run effectively as I have some players interested in trying it out.

I’ve noticed a few times in the SWADE core book (haven’t flipped through any companions yet) that there are moments where a statistic is referred to as ‘equal to x trait die’ or ‘2 + x trait’.

Some examples:

* Under Drowning, Death: Incapacitated characters perish in a number of rounds equal to their Vigor die.

* Under Smoke Inhalation, Death: A person Incapacitated from smoke inhalation dies in a number of minutes equal to his Vigor.

* Under Running: A character can increase their pace by their running die, with a note mentioning this amount is a variable based on a roll of the die, representing nuances in the terrain. It also mentions while ‘out of rounds’ (initiative) that the duration a character can run is a number of minutes equal to half their Vigor die* \Type*

I believe there are a few more instances such language is used, and I believe that when the Die Type is mentioned, it refers to a static value, such as when calculating Parry and Toughness, or the running duration of a character sprinting out of combat.

In other situations, such as the Death conditions for drowning or smoke inhalation, does it intend one to roll that die? Or is it again a static value, i.e. a character with a Vigor of d8 would perish after 8 rounds/minutes, instead of 1-8 rounds/minutes?

I’m not sure why I can’t seem to wrap my head around this currently, and I want to be able to explain it properly to any players who may also find themselves confused. If I happened to miss or not remember a rules section that explains such things too, could someone please inform me of which section/page is it explained?

Thank you in advance as my work day may make it difficult to respond to anyone in a timely manner.

Question Movement - Running. But not in combat?

Hi, I have a rule question about the Movement Running. So let's say a hero has movement rate of 6", which is then on a 2m-grid a MR of 12m, and he can throw a d6 to increase her Pace every round. That makes an average movement speed of ~20m per round.

In my Sci-Fi setting there was a situation where they saw the enemy 100m-200m away (I don't remember exactly). This is quite plausible. You can identify enemies from 200m away. So everyone aimed very bad and the movement from one group to another to engage in melee combat would have taken ~10 rounds (which is awfully long).

Do you use house rules to circumvent this (imo) hole in the rule system? For example allow a hero to run with (Pace + max(running die))x2 but then she can't do anything else?

Question Roll20 support

Does anyone know if there will be any more support for roll20? I’ve got too much invested there to switch to another one and I’m trying to see if I’ll see the science fiction companion get content or not.

Question Mythic + SWADE?

I’m trying to decide on using Mythic One Page (until I get used to it, then I’ll probably start using more charts from GME2) with SWADE, or use a osr style game called FORGE system.

Now FORGE is WAY easier to play. Not a ton of moving parts. Unlike SW. Not to say that Savage Worlds is hard to run. The big things I feel would be difficult is looking up edges during combat, modifiers, and status. Am I being dramatic?

How is this game solo? Hard to keep track of everything? Edges/modifiers/etc?

I really do love the game. I came straight from 4e and then 5e D&D and had my mind awakened to non wotc games.

Question (SWADE) Deadlands - Is a Blessed with the Hexlinger edge too OP?

TLDR: I'm toying with the idea of playing a combat/exorcist priest for an upcoming campaign. Would allowing him to take the Hexlinger Edge to have the Ammo Whammy power be too OP?

To go into more detail: I really like this idea of a penitent priest that hunts monsters as a way to absolve his previous sins. But looking into the Blessed arcane background, the list of powers seems to heavily lean on support instead of firepower. Mechanically speaking, the power Ammo Whammy (from the Hexslinger) seems way closer to what I want, but the rest of the Huckster's arcane background heavily clashes with the concept of a priest (not to mention that I've already played a Huckster so I want something different).

Both I and my DM are fairly new to the system, so before springing this rule-breaking character on him, I would like some advice on how balanced this is. Is there a combo I should look out for? Is there an appropriate nerf for the character? Is this a perfectly fine homebrew? Or is this just too against the grain of the game?

Question What books should I get for a “Crimson Skies vs Cthulhu” setting.

My setting is sort of dieselpunk airplane pirates that eventually have to confront hell boy style mythos fueled Nazis.

I need vehicle combat, magic, and horror elements.

What books should I look at?

Question Pulp style Loke Battle Mats

I'm planning to run an in person game for my family soon, and I'd like some pre-made physical battle mats to help give some visuals while playing. Ideally, I'd like a book style so I can use a bunch of different maps, but individual wouldn't be the end of the world.

I've looked and haven't seen any modern or pulp style ones. Just fantasy and cyberpunk.

Question Good rules for Seafaring campaign?

Hey y'all, I'm thinking about doing a Seafaring /Pirate campaign set in the Lhazaar Principalities of Eberron (a high fantasy setting), and I'm wondering what other settings or companion books have good rules and ideas for that kind of campaign? Ship chases and battles, sea encounters, all that jazz.

Question Custom Campaign Setting Guide

This is for those of you who have created your own world to run a SWADE adventure in. My world is mostly Urban Fantasy, though it has pseudo-mechanical and narrative elements that I have taken from other stories and RPGs.

I plan on using SWADE because it does allot of things naturally that I want for my campaign. I have the Core, Fantasy & Horror companions. There are definitely things from each that I will be using, but there is much from each that I will not.

My question is twofold: What system specific information do I need to include in a player facing handout, and how much of the narrative world history/lore should I also include in that handout (or should that be separate?)

Rule Modifications SPC: Wanting feedback on another custom power -- Suffocate

I built another power that I found lacking in the SPC, and again am looking for community feedback on it. Mainly for the pricing and balance, but constructive criticism in general is welcome.

Link to the power: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zGIHMdLQnWU_MDPs9lhLCLQjHCtfbPP2LKme5xlpaeU/edit?usp=sharing

SUMMARY:

Trappings: water in the lungs, super-strong bear hug, clouds of asphyxiating gas

This power allows the super to cause their opponent to immediately begin to suffocate. It is based on the rules for drowning (on page 126 of the Core Rulebook.)

Use an action to make a Focus roll against a target within 6". On a success, the target must make a Vigor roll (at -2 with a raise on the Focus roll.) If the victim succeeds, they suffer no effect; with a raise, they become immune to any further effects of this particular attack for the rest of the encounter.

If the victim fails, he is immediately deprived of air; as with drowning, the character can still hold their breath for a number of rounds equal to 2 plus their Vigor die, or half that if they weren't prepared for the attack and didn't have time to get a good breath beforehand. Once the victim is out of breath, they become Incapacitated and Unconscious.

Rule Modifications SPC: Looking for feedback on a custom power -- Remote Viewing

Awhile back I put together rules for a power that I was surprised to find missing in the SPC: Remote Viewing. So now I'm looking for community feedback on the power. Mainly for opinions besides my own as to whether it's fair and balanced, but other constructive criticism would be appreciated too.

Link to the power description: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qGSxP220cvRr-2BI9CV79CsJoIKEk-6Wi-Mjm-oSHTE/edit?usp=sharing

SUMMARY:

Trappings: psychic viewing, magical scrying, a HUD linked to a drone

This power allows the super to transpose their senses to another location.

Use an action to make a Focus roll. On a success, a point of your choice within physical reach becomes the new locus of your senses; all of your senses (including enhanced senses, but not including your sense of touch,) now perceive as if you were standing at the new sensory locus. When you first activate the power, or as an action afterwards, you can move the locus in any direction at your pace, up to 12" away.
