Advice How to make strongman style bags adjustable

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

With how much this is asked I'm surprised I haven't seen this solution provided anywhere. My example here is filling a 250 bag to 150 lb, so its tight without any extra fabric or the need to tie anything down.

Short answer: use two filler materials (like rubber mulch and sand) and keep them separate using a filler bag.

You can also do this the opposite way if your bag is only a little too heavy! Fill with sand and use a filler bag of rubber or foam or towels.

Technique Check Stone Circle Berserker Day 2

Day 2 of starting this program. I weigh 210 (need to get down to 190-195 lol) and chose a 150# bag (well, it’s actually 160# when I weighed it). General form check and I wonder if this bag looks like it’s maybe too light for me for the purpose of this program? Problem is my 175# I can shoulder one motion, but not at any time without messing up like Cody says so I went with 160.

Lots of supersets and shouldering to help keep the conditioning and heart rate up

Day 1 chest focused:

5 rounds
-8 sandbag floor presses
-2 sandbag ground to shoulder

3 rounds
-10 per leg sandbag reverse lunges
-20 sit ups

3 rounds
-8 sandbag overhead presses
-15 band chest flyes
-15 band skull chrushers

Finisher
-50 push-ups with feet on a sandbag

Advice Looking to start what to get?

Hey guys! Looking to add some sandbag training to my routine. For reference I’m about 5 10” 170lbs I was thinking about starting with a 100lbs bag. I was looking at Cerberus bags and I’m not sure whether to go for the standard cylindrical bag or the circular stone bag. I don’t have a a lot of room so if one shape offers “more” I’m interested to hear your opinions. I’m not looking to enter any strongman comp just want something to build overall strength and change things up a bit.

Also has anyone underfilled a bag? Does it become more awkward?

Programming & Workouts My First Week with Full Sandbag Training!

Post image
46 Upvotes

TLDR; I received my custom-sized sandbags at the end of last month and have just completed my first week with them!

Some might remember my post in this sub asking about which sandbags I should get as a petite.

After some consideration, I decided to order these custom-sized bags from Strongworm (Rizhao Feiqing International Trading Co., Ltd.) via Alibaba because I knew I couldn’t wrap my arms around the standard dimensions with my petite frame (148 cm!) I also asked them to add handles so I can drag the bag back in place, after exhausting all my energy at the end of sessions.🤣

They finally arrived after two months of back-and-forth communication and another three weeks for delivery, and I absolutely love them!

My routine is heavily inspired by The Stone Circle but scaled down (heavily!) from four sessions to three full-body sessions per week, and incorporating different accessory exercises.

  • Day 1: Calisthenics Circuit (Dips, Pull-Ups, Pike Push-Ups, Ab Rollouts) + Bear Hug Squats (50 reps is so brutal!) + Accessory Work (Hamstrings and lower back)
  • Day 2: Ground-to-Shoulder, High Pulls, Lap-to-Chest, Rows + Bear Hug Carry + Accessory Work (Quads, shoulders, and arms)
  • Day 3: Clean and Press (doing this with an Atlas Stone Sandbag is fun!), One-Motion Ground-to-Chest, 5-minute AMRAP Box Squats (I hit 46 reps with 25kg!) + Shoulder Carry + Accessory Work (Scapular focus)

This is my first time trying EMOM-style training, and I believe it might become my favourite way to train! No more guessing how long I should rest. LOL.

Sandbag training sure is a whole lot of fun! 💪🎉

I still enjoy using my training sandbag with handles for cleans and thrusters (my favorite conditioning exercises!), rows, and good mornings. However, for everything else, Atlas and Strongman sandbags are just so much more fun to train with. I had an absolute blast shouldering my Atlas sandbag!

I plan to follow this routine for a month before deloading for a week to prepare for kettlebell training when my adjustable kettlebells (another Alibaba purchase) arrive next month (hopefully). After that, I'll need to figure out how to incorporate both into my training without playing favorites, though, of course, sandbags will come on top!

P.S. I actually ordered three sandbags: a 20kg Atlas Stone Sandbag, a 35kg Strongman Sandbag, and a 50kg Strongman Sandbag. For now, I’ve only filled the first two with 15kg and 25kg.

I know I can handle more weight, but I’d prefer to master the techniques first. I might add more sand next year.

Advice Sandbag workout - youth wrestler

Post image
7 Upvotes

Looking to pick one of these to add to my son's workout routine, instead of conventional equipment. He already has a solid foundation of bodyweight exercises and some kettlebell training through the wrestling club, and wanted to add in some light weight strength training. These look like a nice option to add some resistance in an unconventional way.

Squats

Rows

Farmer Walks

Presses

Swings (like a kettlebell)

Looking to keep it simple, safe and fun. Any recommendations please let me know!

Advice Needed Newbie question

I was going to a gym before work, and unfortunately it went out of business leaving me with nowhere to work out due to time constraints, and I hate crowded gyms. I don’t have a lot of room for weights, and I had been looking at sandbag workouts for a little while, so I made the jump and bought the REP fitness bags. I really like them, and they open up endless possibilities, but they are different than the bags I see everyone else using. Should I use them until I get stronger and then invest in the strongman type bags?

Advice Needed Anyone use the REP fitness sandbag?

I just recently bought the REP fitness 50-125lb sandbag and was wondering if anyone else uses it? I'm curious because to know if technique would significantly change due to the shape of the bag being longer and not as round as the freedom strength strongman type sandbags.

Technique Check Started with a 55kg / 121lb bag around 4 or 5 months ago. Good to be moving my new bag filled a bit over 80kg / 176 lbs. This is my final set of the day. I seem to be hitting my chest with the bag. Is this normal or is my form no good? And thanks all for the motivating posts which helped me improve.

Advice Needed Next bag size?

Started with a 100lb BoS bag underfilled to 80ish, now at 110ish. Been using it for floor to shoulder, shoulder carries, and high pulls. It's starting to feel easy.

I'm going to buy a few more bags: thinking of 250 for heavy platform lifts, and a 200 that I'll underfill to 150-170 or so to bridge the gap from my 100.

Not sure about the 3rd bag though. Is getting a 150 worth it? Seems redundant with the 100 but also an underfilled 200 might be too floppy to graduate to, and a 300 might be way too much for me right now.

Advice If you saw my 'new bag is de-threading' post, Cerberus offered me to exchange, or to do a DIY fix without voiding the warranty and to circle back later if it gets worse. I'm going with the DIY fix for now. They recommended to cut the loose thread and burn it off. Cheers everyone for all the help.

If you were wondering, I deleted the other post because I realised it was starting to look a bit like brand bashing, and that wasn't my intention.

Advice Counter apps for emoms?

Thumbnail

What apps do you use for emoms? Are there any apps with custom amount of rounds, round length and countdown between rounds? I'm new to this and don't have a clue to be honest. I just need something that works with Cody Janko's Sandbag Berserker.

Since I'm bored I started to build my own, but that's another story.
