Discussion To all the "new" players excited to try the game after reignited i have something to show you
The same game, same quests, same combat experience, same everything is here waiting for you. Come put your money where your mouth is and give the game a shot.
If the gimmick of a "fresh economy " was the only apparent barrier stopping you from trying the game out, you were never serious about acutally playing the game.
But anyway remember, rs3 Ironman mode is just like reignited! So happy scaping.

Discussion guys im annoyed. i wanted to start playing rs3 but now reignited is 2 months away so i feel i should just wait for that rather than waste progressing for 2 months.
this is annoying.

Discussion Reignited was the first thing that genuinely made me want to play RS.
I'm honestly really disappointed that Reignited got cancelled.
For me, one of the biggest barriers to getting into an older MMO is the feeling that you're joining a world where everyone else is already thousands of hours ahead of you. People have maxed accounts, billions in wealth, years of progression, and the early-game experience just isn't the same when you're going through it mostly alone.
I know people will say "just make a new account, it's the exact same game", but I feel like that completely misses the point.
The appeal of Reignited wasn't just having a fresh character. It was having a fresh world where everyone was starting together. Seeing low-level areas populated again, people discovering things, working through the same content, building an economy from scratch, and actually feeling like you're part of something new.
There's something genuinely exciting about an MMO launch that you simply can't recreate by making a level 1 character in a game that's been running for 25 years.
And no, it's not about needing to compete with veterans or being upset that other people are ahead. Obviously some players would progress much faster than others. That's completely fine. It's about the shared experience of starting from zero, rather than feeling like you've arrived at a party 20 years too late.
I understand why existing players were concerned. But I think a lot of people are overlooking just how appealing Reignited was to potential new and returning players.
For the first time, RS3 felt like a game I could jump into at the beginning of something, rather than spending months trying to find my place in something that had already happened.
Genuinely couldn't be more disappointed.

Discussion If reignited being cancelled is stopping anyone from trying the game, they were into the game for the wrong reasons
If you’re into copy & paste then by all means be mad but nothing is stopping you from trying the game now.

Appreciation You guys could have made an Ironman free of MTX for YEARS now. So cut the BS. You’ve had the same excuse to not create a new account for years : NONE, you just don’t like the game.
Thank you to all the Mods involved in this decision making process. You guys proved today you are different and the game is in good hands.

Discussion Are we listening to the community?
Or are we just knee-jerking to the loudest voices in the room?
I'm disappointed by the cancellation of Reignited, I genuinely believe it was the best chance (although flawed) at really reviving the game's player count.
I felt we were getting somewhere with the discussions and compromises talked about last week. That we'd be able to find some middle ground that could at least put us on a path of positive growth.
My biggest concern is that while OSRS has a polling system, over here we may be leaning towards catering to the loudest voices. And not everyone is comfortable putting their opinion forward outside of a polling or survey system.
If cancelling Reignited is truly what the community wants, then so be it, I might not be happy but I'll respect it.
I just don't want our version of the polling system to be whoever can have the biggest crash-out gets their way, I don't think that's conducive to positive game health.
I'm interested to see other's thoughts on the situation

Discussion Reignited isn’t going to fix RS3’s real problems
I don’t think Reignited is the solution. Jagex seems to think RS3’s biggest problem is easy scape and the economy, but I think the problems go way deeper than that.
The game just isn’t that fun to play anymore. No voice chat, clans and grouping are terrible, not enough large group content, an outdated engine, and combat is pretty boring compared to new generation options.
You can reset progression and make the game grindier, but that doesn’t fix any of those problems. Making people work harder for the same stuff isn’t going to magically make the game more engaging. If anything, people have much shorter attention spans now.
RS3 needs better core gameplay, better social features, and more reasons for people to actually play together. Hitting the reset button doesn’t fix core problems.
Edit: Please note, I’ve been playing for 20+ years. I’m mostly trying to view this from the perspective of attracting new players to the game.

Appreciation Thank you jagex
Thank you, seriously for listening to the player base that is currently playing the game and that is supported you through everything. The people that stuck through the decades of MTX and other poor choices. The removal of MTX and the road to Restoration , the massive updates planned and now the communication that you have kept with us in regards to reignited this is a major step forward and repairing the damage that has been done over the years with the player base. And I truly believe that if you continue on this path forward that you can restore RuneScape to what it truly is and what it was meant to be before we had the troubling times. Back when moderators used to come into the game and spawn in bosses and do cool events with the community, back when holidays would have moderators joining in with the festivities and streams would be going on, back when you guys used to do the bot banning online stream and then donating it all to the well of life I think it's called I don't know lol. But I'm glad that you took the right step in the correct direction.

Discussion Cancelling RS3 Reignited is a massive missed opportunity, and I think Jagex is making the same mistake Runescape has made for years.
Hold onto your seats, I have a lot I want to say, and I hope many of you can at least see my perspective, I've thought a LOT about this.
I'm genuinely disappointed by the decision to cancel RS3 Reignited, because I honestly believe a fresh start could have been one of the best things to happen to this game.
And I think the reason it hurts so much is that this wasn't just another game mode. It was an opportunity to address some of the fundamental problems that make it difficult for new players to get invested in RS3 in the first place.
A fresh start means everyone starts on equal footing. No decades of accumulated wealth. No established players with enormous stockpiles of resources dictating the market. No feeling that you're joining a world where the economy, progression, and social hierarchy were all decided before you even arrived.
For a new player, that matters. A lot.
RS3 has 25 years of history behind it, and while that's an incredible achievement, that history is also a barrier to entry. Veteran players have accumulated wealth, knowledge, equipment, and advantages that new players simply cannot compete with. You can tell a new player that there's years of content to enjoy, but that doesn't automatically make them feel like they have a place in the game..
A fresh start could have given people that place.
I think Jagex is listening to the wrong audience.
(Here's the part I expect people to disagree with, it's my hot take that most people reading this will immediately hate and think I'm calling them out, but from an objective standpoint, it feels completely apt for this situation)
The people who have stuck with RS3 for years are obviously going to have strong opinions about changing the game they've invested so much time into. They've built their accounts, accumulated their wealth, and established their routines. Of course many of them dont want a separate version of the game that changes the playing field. I understand that, and I'm not saying their opinions don't matter.
But the people who stayed are not necessarily representative of the people Jagex needs to attract.
The existing player base can tell Jagex what it likes about RS3 today. It cannot by itself tell Jagex what would convince hundreds of thousands of former players to return, or what would make someone who has never played Runescape want to start.
Those are different questions.
If your goal is to retain your existing audience, listening to your current audience makes sense. If your goal is to grow a game that's been struggling to attract and retain players, you also need to understand the people who left, the people who never joined, and the reasons they never became invested.
Sometimes those groups want something that the existing player base doesn't.
And sometimes the decision that makes the most sense for the longterm health of a game is the decision that upsets some of its most dedicated players.
That doesn't make the decision wrong.
Look at what a fresh start could have meant for RS3.
Imagine an RS3 where everyone starts together. Completely fresh in 2027. Where the economy develops organically. Where early resources, equipment, and skills have genuine value because the entire player base is progressing through the game together. Sure some will have an advantage with knowledge, but that's where it stops: They won't have the knowledge and 8 trillion gold in the bank.
Imagine new players being able to participate in a developing economy instead of stepping into one shaped by decades of accumulated wealth. Imagine the excitement of a new world where the market isn't already dominated by people who have been playing since before some players were even born.
This isn't some unprecedented experiment. Fresh start worlds, seasonal servers, progression resets, and new leagues have demonstrated across the MMO genre that giving players a clean slate can create excitement, competition, community, and a reason to return.
It doesn't have to replace the existing game. That's the important distinction.
Nobody needs to lose their main account. Nobody needs to surrender their accomplishments. RS3 could continue exactly as it is while Reignited offered a different experience for returning players, new players, and veterans who wanted to experience Runescape from the beginning again.
A fresh start isn't a punishment for veteran players. It's an opportunity to give everyone else a reason to become one.
And even if some people eventually returned to their main accounts, that wouldn't automatically make the experiment a failure. Getting people back into the game, generating interest, rebuilding communities, and giving people something exciting to talk about all have value.
The potential upside was enormous.
We've seen this mistake before.
This is what makes the decision particularly frustrating to me, because I think we've seen a similar pattern with Brighter Shores.
Andrew Gower created a new MMO with the potential to attract people who loved the original Runescape experience. But after the initial launch, a huge portion of the audience disappeared. (something akin to 99.5%!!) The people who remained were, understandably, the ones who enjoyed what the game was offering.
Yet when you're trying to figure out how to grow a game again, asking only the people who stayed what they want can become a feedback loop. The people who left aren't there to tell you why they left. The people who never joined aren't there to tell you what would have interested them.
You end up optimizing for the people who are already satisfied instead of addressing the reasons everyone else walked away.
I see a similar danger here.
I'm not suggesting that Jagex should ignore its existing players, or that every unpopular idea is automatically the right one. I'm suggesting that the people currently playing should not have the only, or even the deciding voice when the objective is to attract a much larger audience. Because that's exactly what we need....We need more players...
You cannot build a growth strategy around the preferences of the people who already stayed and expect that alone to bring everyone else back.
Please look beyond your personal investment in the current game.
I know people have legitimate reasons for opposing Reignited. Some don't want resources diverted from the main game. Some don't want a new mode splitting the community. Some simply prefer the game as it exists today.
Those are fair concerns, and Jagex should take them seriously.
But I'd encourage everyone to take a step back and ask a different question.
Not "Would I personally play this?"
Not "Would this devalue something I've spent years collecting?"
Not even "Is this the version of Runescape I want?"
Instead, ask: What version of Runescape has the best chance of attracting and retaining the next generation of players? What will SAVE this game????
What gives someone who quit ten years ago a reason to return? What gives someone who's never played RS3 a reason to try it? What gives the game a chance to grow rather than simply continue serving an increasingly established audience?
I genuinely believe Reignited had the potential to answer those questions.
Maybe it wouldn't have worked. Maybe the execution would have been flawed. Maybe it would have needed significant adjustments along the way. Nobody can honestly guarantee that a fresh start would have saved RS3.
But it offered a chance to find out. Now I fear that chance is dead. For good...
And that's what I find so disappointing about cancelling it. We lost the opportunity to test an idea that could have addressed some of the game's biggest barriers to growth.
I'd rather see Jagex take a calculated risk on attracting a new generation of players than continue making every decision around the preferences of the people who are already here.
RS3 doesn't need to abandon its veterans. It needs to give new players a reason to become veterans themselves.
Please, Jagex, reconsider this. And to everyone reading this, even if you personally didn't want Reignited, please consider supporting the broader idea behind it. You don't have to want to play a fresh start mode yourself to recognize what it could have done for the future of RS3...
I want RS3 to succeed. I want people to be excited about it again. I want new players to discover the game and feel like they're part of something growing, rather than arriving 25 years late to a party that's already winding down into what feels like a server shutdown in just a few short years...
I thought Reignited could have been a step toward that future.
I hope Jagex hasn't closed the door on it permanently.
Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

Appreciation To the Mods,
I was just sitting here, doing some arch, when I noticed my clan chat. Someone had said something about RIP Reignited, and I got so excited. Watched ModRyan's video, and I'm just so glad. After the initial announcement, I was floored. I couldn't even bring myself to log on until the following Sunday, because I didn't want to lose my clan fealty xp bonus from not capping.
I took some time away from Runescape, and gave WoW a try. Played for about a week, made it to a Fresh 90, and just got bored. Jagex makes a truly unique game, one that isn't easily replaced. I started my journey in Gielinor way back in 2001 when I was 10 years old. Played as much as I could, but this was back in the dial up days, and only my grandparents had internet. I eventually fell off around 2005.
In the Summer of 2019, a friend of mine asked if I remembered Runescape, and I said yea, of course. He told me that he had started playing, and I should too. Then I was introduced to Old School Runescape. I remember creating an ironman, because I figured "I never really traded with anyone back then, so why not?" Soon after joining, I deironed, because I had been completely oblivious to this new "General Exchange" thing...I played OSRS off and on until I finally hit my stride around 2023. I began playing almost everyday. Then, this year, I decided to try out my first Leagues. I got burnt out, not gonna lie. I needed a change of pace. On a whim, I decided to give RS3 a try. That was in May of this year, and with the exception of the week after Reignited was announced, I've played everyday.
RS3 is a great game. I have enjoyed damned near every bit of it. No mtx, just a couple of bonds to get me started out. I found a clan that was super helpful and supportive. They helped me through the transition from Old School, and I can honestly say I think that RS3 is the superior game. I know a lot of people will say that's stupid, OSRS is king, or Eww, easyscape. I'm a 36 year old husband and father. The QOL alone was enough to make me stay.
Thank you so much for not hurting RS3 with reignited. Now let us work together to bring forth a new age of RS3.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Discussion RuneScape 3 isn't dying
We really need to stop panicking so much. RuneScape 3 isn't dying, and it will easily still be around as a live service in 10 or 15 years.
RuneScape 3 is a highly valuable asset that generates solid profits while requiring relatively low investment compared to other businesses.
As a community, we’re really doing ourselves no favors by spreading this narrative, because it actively scares off new players. Who wants to start playing a game that’s supposedly dying?
But RS3 is NOT dying! Next year is going to be a huge year in terms of new content.
Generally, RS3 has a terrible reputation online, which is largely fueled by hate from former players who haven't even played the game in 15 years.
RS3’s marketing is overall pretty bad. There was a nice YouTube Shorts marketing push for Havenhyte which I really enjoyed, and coincidentally, the initial release was packed across all worlds.
Jagex is a billion Dollar company, so they probably know what they’re doing with marketing. But as a fan, it’s a shame that after 1–2 weeks of active marketing, they seem to just give up again for what feels like years.

Discussion Where's the reignited convo?
What's the chances they drop a useless post end of day Friday again and just ignore every comment again? It's end of day Thursday, and there's been essentially 0 response to anything that was said about last weeks post and the post didn't actually address the primary concerns with this new mode.
At this point feels like they're just going to force this thru with vague wording around changing things in the future if there are issues. The lack of communication and repeated drop post and disappear is a concerning pattern at this point.
EDIT: It's cancelled boys!!!!!! https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/reignited-an-update-from-mod-ryan
EDIT2: NO RAGRETS making this post, so glad to have been proven wrong. But 100% believe they need to retrospective on how they communicate in the future.

Discussion - J-Mod reply Thank god jagex was able to tell between trolls and real players.
There are SO MANY posts in the rs3 sub Reddit lately from people who never planned to even play. People just rage baiting trying to say how they use to play and won’t now etc etc. It’s so easy to tell who actually plays the game or wanted to try it out vs OSRS players just shitting on the game for fun. Thankfully the devs could also tell and made the right decision.

Other Canceling Reignited is a huge step in a good direction
So what two huge steps backward do you think Jamflex has in the chamber waiting to shoot itself in the foot to cancel out the player goodwill from THIS update (which in itself originally took all the wind out of the 2027 roadmap)?

Discussion I'm a disappointed, but still playing.
I was looking forward to Reignited, so I’m disappointed it’s been cancelled. That said, I’m still playing a new account (already have one made) and giving the game a chance. I want to enjoy RuneScape and see it do well.
I just hope Jagex doesn’t lose sight of the early and mid-game now. There needs to be more focus on making that part of the game feel good to play. “It gets better at endgame” isn’t much of a selling point for someone deciding whether to stick around.
To me that includes taking a proper look at alchables and all the different sources of items. When so many resources come from elsewhere, what reason does someone have to spend time gathering or making them? Unlocking a new skilling method should feel exciting and useful, rather than something you skip because combat supplies everything more easily.
A fresh economy was a big part of why Reignited interested me, but those same problems would’ve needed addressing there too. I’m still willing to give the current game a shot. I just want the journey through it to get the attention it needs.
Edit: I am also now Mario with my title. Wahoo!

Discussion Why are you all gleeful that Reignited has been canceled?
I've put 50 days into OSRS over the last 2 years, and I was looking forward to trying out RS3 with Reignited.
Today, I randomly see it's been canceled. Wtf? Everyone here seems gleeful that it has been canned.
Don't you want new players? Reignited had a strong chance to funnel players into the main RS3 experience.
Well done cutting off your nose to spite your face. Very well done.
What is your reason to justify it's cancelation?
r/runescape • u/chi_pa_pa • 1h ago
Discussion They should have polled the cancellation
For the PR, not because I think it would change the result.
Right now a lot of people in the wider gaming space feel like RS3 just caters to a vocal minority of maxed RS3 veterans, and they see this cancelation as an example of that. Even if this isn't true, Jagex should seek to control this narrative.
Running a poll would have given everyone a big glowing sign saying "See? This is what people want"

Discussion How is OSRS attracting new players but not RS3?
Other than that we are "tainted", what are the reasons? Also, most mtx are gone nowadays anyway.
from what I know, OSRS early game is just as difficult, if not more grindy.
Please enlighten me on what RS3 is doing bad for new player experience that OSRS is doing much better.

Discussion I'm seeing nothing but overwhelming support of Reignited
from other subreddits, the comments on the youtube video, and even here (despite the community trying to downvote and harass those people in support).
So will Jagex listen to the "vocal minority" this time and un-cancel Reignited due to the clear interest in it? Probably not, but they should.
