I've been working on an English translation of Fire Pro Wrestling G as a dream project for a long time now, and I'm really happy to finally share it. Fighting Road has been locked behind the language barrier for over 25 years, and I'm so glad everyone can finally play through all of it.

Why did it take so long???

Unlike my translation of Ouja no Tamashii where all the text was just images to edit, all of the Japanese characters were actual text in the game. The hardest part was getting English text to fit on the screen. The game draws text as Japanese characters in fixed-size squares, so the native English letters either didn't show up at all (story mode) or got cut off after a few letters (menus). I ended up writing new text-drawing code in MIPS assembly for both the story box and the menus, packing English letters at their real width into the same tiles the Japanese used. Some screens like Skill Edit had zero spare room and needed their own layout fixes.

All the code, the translation files and a pile of documentation on the game's formats are on GitHub if anyone wants to dig in.

Long ago someone named Shadow-Follower in 2009 tried to create a Spanish translation for the game but after the intro was finished he said something personal was happening and it had to be postponed and since then there was no longer any known attempt..until now, but this time it will be translated in English! By me. Let me know if this is something others would want to see considering this is a very niche game

With the huge and rapid advancements in game decompilations lately, what are the chances of a Sigma Harmonics translation? ROM hackers kind of gave up on it around 2009 because of its special compression. It's honestly one of the best looking DS games out there.

Player 2 joins with START as a blue Crash. Stay close and you share the full screen; walk away and it splits. Both Crashes can climb on top of things now, TNT hurts everyone (guards, your partner and you), and the guards finally see Crash 2: they yell "Woah!" and open fire.

Fitting all of that into the PlayStation's 2 MB of RAM meant moving Crash's death animations to the CD. 96 bytes left.

The idea, the direction and the testing are mine. The investigation and the code are Claude's (Anthropic's AI, through Claude Code).

Credits: Metal Gear Solid decompilation by FoxdieTeam (mgs_reversing). Crash formats learned from CBHacks (CrashEdit), wurlyfox (c1) and ManDude (goocdump); Matteo842 (CrashBandicoot-Launcher) and BlackLabelHQ (RecompOne). The original idea is the "Metal Gear Bandicoot: Wumpa Fruit Eater" drawing by u/Max_Comix (Reddit, 2018), plus yuvi3000 and ZXE102R in the comments. PCSX ReARMed, mkpsxiso (Lameguy64).
