RogueliteDev We're making a digging roguelite that starts with coal and ends in cosmic horror

Hey! We're working on Drill Deep, a pixel-art digging roguelite that slowly turns into cosmic horror.

You start out mining coal under a quiet green field. Eventually, you're tearing through the mine with chain lightning, lasers and swarms of little robots. And somewhere along the way, the mine starts looking back at you. Cosmic horror, no jump scares.

We just released a big update, including a new perk system. You pick perks as you level up and build combos around your pickaxe, autodrill and automatons. We want choosing your next perk to feel like a chance to take your build somewhere interesting.

The update also adds flying and spider automatons, reworked lava and mushroom biomes, new monsters and corruption that makes each run a little more wrong.

Our Steam playtest is open, and we'd love to have more playtesters! We're especially interested in how the new perks feel: whether the choices are interesting, which combos you discover, and where progression starts feeling slow or frustrating.

You can join the playtest here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4268970/Drill_Deep/

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try — we'd love to hear how your run went!

What's the best deckbuilder(or related) game to decompress to?

You know, when a long day is over, mental bandwidth is low, and you just want to not think too much - also not get your teeth kicked in, in like a few turns? Where do you turn?

Of course, any game can be a relaxing experience once you get enough hours in. So I guess it's mainly games with an low barrier of entry, that can be enjoyed somewhat from the get-go without climbing a steep learning barrier initially.

I have played a lot of Slay the Spire, and that is a great game. In my later years with more kids and work I just tend to get analysis paralysis from i.e. choosing cards, since you need to be very aware of synergies, thinning your deck and the likes, in order to actually win a run.

Other games like StarVaders has an easy mode, which to me effectively curbs analysis paralysis, since a lot more things work and there are always a lot of options on the table. Vampire crawlers is also rather forgiving in giving you a lot of options.

RogueliteDev Anyone want to test a roguelite where slimes evolve based on what you feed them?

I’ve been working on Slimekin and I’m at the point where I need some fresh eyes on it.

You explore dungeons with a team of slimes, they auto-battle, and what you feed them changes what they can evolve into.

I’m looking for a few people to try the current alpha and tell me what feels good/bad, mainly combat pacing, difficulty, whether the evolution system makes sense, and anything that feels boring or confusing.

No need for a huge review, even blunt feedback is useful.

Steam page is here if you want to check it out:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5436970/Slimekin/

If anyone wants to test it, comment or DM me and I’ll send access.

Roguelite where changing the world is the meta-progression

Anybody wanna develop a game like that?

So I was thinking what could a roguelite without preset stages look like. An open-world roguelite. You go into the world - you do something - you die and start a new run. If the world stays the same but the player grows in power, early world stages will become irrelevant. It would still work, but hopefully there are better ways. If the world power grows with the player it would defeat the meta progression purpose, that’s not great either.

What if we combine the two systems kind of? Start of a game - the world is low tech shithole, humanity is besieged by monsters. The player is a hero or a band a heroes or whatever else, that clears up the world run after run. So clearing out monster layers gives world new tech, so that next heroes can use it. There may be other systems. Elevate specific NPCs and get their boons later. Monsters try to reclaim lost territory and the world may backslide if runs are shit. The exact gameplay can be different. Likely an auto-battler or some action game, maybe a deckbuilder.

I suspect there might already be some games where meta-progression looks like this. Darkest Dungeon comes to mind. The world is a bit small tho. I’d like more Battle Brothery. Pick a bad fight - die - start again in the same world. Exploration through death.

Twin-Stick Shooter How do you feel about the Neon Abyss games?

Neon Abyss 2 just dropped, and it looks like both games are on sale across a few different store fronts. I'm actually downloading the original Neon Abyss' demo on my dusty old Switch right now, but if it clicks, I may pick it up on my PS5 instead. That Switch is hanging by a thread.

I've seen some people call it a poor man's Isaac or Gungeon or Revita. I've also seen some people say the second game is solid but a bit uninspired, generally being more of the same. I saw someone describe it as more of a Neon Abyss 1.5 than a true sequel.

What do you people think about those games?

I wasn’t into word games. Then I started making LETTERBANE, a word-building roguelite.

In LETTERBANE you build words to beat up monsters and try to survive a run. Letters have different elements that boost each other, while items change how your words are scored. The full version will also feature unlockable characters that change how your words are evaluated. I’m developing it solo, currently reworking all the effects to make things less overwhelming, adding the remaining monsters, piecing together the full version and rework the tutorial .but damn i like it so far. Maybe because it is my own project but thats okay. :D oh i missed the best Part it has english and german word support.

There’s a free Demo on steam if you’d like to give it a go:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4731600/Letterbane/

I am always looking for feedback :)

Some recent progress on my typing roguelike!

Still got a long way to go, but feeling very excited about the increase in general polish after dealing with transparent grey rectangle for every window/button for a while.
This is a typing game heavily inspired by Slay the Spire and Monkeytype/typeracer! The objective is to survive combat encounters while traversing the map, picking up relics that enhance your attacks along the way. For example, one of the relics add a flat damage bonus to attacks executed by words with length < 2.

Any features/mechanics you'd like to see in the game?

Also sorry about the artifacting in the gif lol

Roguelike Chess

After years of dreaming of making a game, I finally finished one. It’s called WNSE, and it’s a chess roguelike!

Think of it as action chess

It’s now available on iOS. If it sounds like your kind of thing, I’d love for you to try it. I’m especially curious whether the first few runs are easy to understand—and what feels fun or frustrating.

RogueliteDev We took the turns out of a deckbuilder: you play cards in real time and steal your spells from the enemies you fight

Hi r/roguelites, I’m one of the devs.

KleptoMagia is a real-time roguelite deckbuilder. Enemies cast as the fight unfolds and you react by playing your cards at the right moment, so building a good deck is only half the job: you still have to play it well under pressure.

Before each fight you look at the enemy’s loadout and mark the spell you want to steal. Win, and it’s yours. You can modify it, combine it with Enchants and build around what you took. Runs are procedurally generated, with combats, events, shops, rest sites and bosses.

The art is hand-drawn by comic artist Emilio Pilliu (DC Comics, Dynamite).

The demo is out now and we’ll be part of Steam Next Fest starting Monday. Happy to answer anything about the design, especially how we tried to keep real-time card play readable.

In our roguelite, your best cards can get shredded before you even play them.

We wanted to make a roguelite where you don't just watch your health drop. You watch your options disappear.

That's how Hellsino started.

It's a poker roguelite where your deck is literally your life. The dealer attacks your cards, and every card you lose makes the rest of the run a little more dangerous.

But you can fight back.

Build overlapping poker hands on a tactical grid, stack ridiculous multipliers, and collect perks and cheat cards that let you break the casino's rules.

We recently tripled the game's content, rebuilt its skill tree, and improved the visuals.

Now we're getting ready for a limited beta next week, and our biggest challenge is balance. We want players to discover completely broken builds, but we also want those victories to feel earned.

If you're into roguelites with crazy synergies and meaningful decisions, I'd love for you to check out our new trailer.

Platformer Does Neon Abyss 2 really have 600 items?

I was reading an (albeit older) Gamerant article which stated Neon Abyss 2 features over 600 items, but watching a stream last night in the compendium it seems there's nowhere near that many. Can anyone confirm? Cheers.

Wakeup honey, new choose from three playtest just dropped!

• Upvotes

This is Kingslayers, its goofy, janky and after 6 years slow cooking it's ready to play! Things you might think are cool:

- It's turn based with real time action mixed in

- Slay the spire style map and act bosses

- Thousands of builds you can try

- Fast paced competitive multiplayer

- Humans in snake suit disguises trying to save the galaxy

- A cappella snake jazz

- A slug called Kevin who just wants to be accepted as one of the snakes.

Free playtest open now! Give it a try if interested and let me know what you think! All feedback welcome <3

RogueliteDev Megamine releasing on 19 November!! I don't give a shit about GTA VI launch

Wishlist it if you are interested!! https://store.steampowered.com/app/5283280/MEGAMINE/

I've been making a stupid little bullet hell roguelite about mining rocks, getting ores and absolutely breaking your build.

The basic idea is:

You destroy rocks → get ores → gamble them away in a slot machine → open chests → get increasingly ridiculous weapons → fight bosses → hopefully survive the run.

There are different characters too, from Bob the Miner to Mr. Skully, a skeleton who somehow ended up mining rocks.

The weapons and upgrades are meant to get pretty absurd. Basically I want that feeling of starting a run thinking “yeah, this build is pretty good” and 10 minutes later your screen is just completely fucked with projectiles and you're killing a boss with some ridiculous weapon you bought at an ATM.

And yes, I'm launching it on November 19th.

Which happens to be the GTA VI release date.

Do I care?

Absolutely fucking not.

I have accepted that I'm going directly into the slaughterhouse and I'm bringing my tiny mining game with me.

Anyway, if you're into roguelites / bullet hells / stupid builds, I'd love to hear what you think.

Odd question, does this game have fake reviews? Saw this pop up and it seemed up my alley. The reviews threw me off though.

Game Release I just released my dice-building roguelike on Steam: Horn & Dice

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm excited to share my newly released indie game, Horn & Dice, now available on Steam!

It's a dice-building roguelike where every die face represents a combat action. You lock the faces you want to keep, reroll the rest, upgrade your dice, and build powerful combinations to survive battles against creatures from Slavic mythology.

The game features:

  • Strategic dice-based combat with limited rerolls
  • 4 starting classes with unique dice
  • Creatures inspired by Slavic folklore, like Baba Yaga, Leshy, and Rusalka
  • Artifacts, potions, mystery events, and 13 Ascension levels
  • A dark fantasy atmosphere inspired by Slavic myths

I'm an indie developer, and this release has been a big milestone for me. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the gameplay, dice mechanics, and overall presentation!
