RogueliteDev We're making a digging roguelite that starts with coal and ends in cosmic horror

Hey! We're working on Drill Deep, a pixel-art digging roguelite that slowly turns into cosmic horror.

You start out mining coal under a quiet green field. Eventually, you're tearing through the mine with chain lightning, lasers and swarms of little robots. And somewhere along the way, the mine starts looking back at you. Cosmic horror, no jump scares.

We just released a big update, including a new perk system. You pick perks as you level up and build combos around your pickaxe, autodrill and automatons. We want choosing your next perk to feel like a chance to take your build somewhere interesting.

The update also adds flying and spider automatons, reworked lava and mushroom biomes, new monsters and corruption that makes each run a little more wrong.

Our Steam playtest is open, and we'd love to have more playtesters! We're especially interested in how the new perks feel: whether the choices are interesting, which combos you discover, and where progression starts feeling slow or frustrating.

You can join the playtest here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4268970/Drill_Deep/

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try — we'd love to hear how your run went!

Some recent progress on my typing roguelike!

• Upvotes

Still got a long way to go, but feeling very excited about the increase in general polish after dealing with transparent grey rectangle for every window/button for a while.
This is a typing game heavily inspired by Slay the Spire and Monkeytype/typeracer! The objective is to survive combat encounters while traversing the map, picking up relics that enhance your attacks along the way. For example, one of the relics add a flat damage bonus to attacks executed by words with length < 2.

Any features/mechanics you'd like to see in the game?

Also sorry about the artifacting in the gif lol

RogueliteDev Testing how my risk of rain inspired roguelite can handle 10,000 enemies!

The answer is: the game can handle 10,000 enemies but my build could not. The game's math takes heavy inspiration from a lot of systems underlying risk of rain 1 / 2, so perhaps I just needed to stack some more procs!

RogueliteDev We took the turns out of a deckbuilder: you play cards in real time and steal your spells from the enemies you fight

Hi r/roguelites, I’m one of the devs.

KleptoMagia is a real-time roguelite deckbuilder. Enemies cast as the fight unfolds and you react by playing your cards at the right moment, so building a good deck is only half the job: you still have to play it well under pressure.

Before each fight you look at the enemy’s loadout and mark the spell you want to steal. Win, and it’s yours. You can modify it, combine it with Enchants and build around what you took. Runs are procedurally generated, with combats, events, shops, rest sites and bosses.

The art is hand-drawn by comic artist Emilio Pilliu (DC Comics, Dynamite).

The demo is out now and we’ll be part of Steam Next Fest starting Monday. Happy to answer anything about the design, especially how we tried to keep real-time card play readable.

Any RPG roguelite ?

Looking for a roguelite with RPG features, such as leveling up characters, choosing powers/perks and seeing stats of characters grow (bonus point if there’s a good story)

What's the best deckbuilder(or related) game to decompress to?

• Upvotes

You know, when a long day is over, mental bandwidth is low, and you just want to not think too much - also not get your teeth kicked in, in like a few turns? Where do you turn?

Of course, any game can be a relaxing experience once you get enough hours in. So I guess it's mainly games with an low barrier of entry, that can be enjoyed somewhat from the get-go without climbing a steep learning barrier initially.

I have played a lot of Slay the Spire, and that is a great game. In my later years with more kids and work I just tend to get analysis paralysis from i.e. choosing cards, since you need to be very aware of synergies, thinning your deck and the likes, in order to actually win a run.

Other games like StarVaders has an easy mode, which to me effectively curbs analysis paralysis, since a lot more things work and there are always a lot of options on the table. Vampire crawlers is also rather forgiving in giving you a lot of options.

New Trailer, Demo Available Now & Coming in 2027! ——Witch & Dragon: Hope of Elements

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone! We’re working on Witch & Dragon: Hope of Elements, a turn-based roguelike about a witch and her little dragon.

The game is built around elemental reactions. You can combine five elements, interact with the environment, and experiment with skills and treasures to create unexpected chain reactions and combat strategies.

We’ve just released an updated demo with lots of improvements, including tutorial adjustments, UI refinements, gameplay tweaks, and bug fixes. There’s also new content to explore, including the complete Wood Domain storyline and part of the Water Domain storyline.

We’ve been working hard to improve the experience based on what we’ve learned from previous playtests. Now we’d love to hear from more players!

We’re also excited to share that the game is planned for release in 2027, and we’ll be participating in Steam Next Fest this month.

Platformer Does Neon Abyss 2 really have 600 items?

I was reading an (albeit older) Gamerant article which stated Neon Abyss 2 features over 600 items, but watching a stream last night in the compendium it seems there's nowhere near that many. Can anyone confirm? Cheers.

I'm making a roguelite where HP is your currency. Does this risk/reward mechanic actually work?

Hey! I'm a solo dev working on Dreadbleed, a dark fantasy roguelite shooter where your HP is your currency. Every upgrade makes you stronger, but brings you closer to death.

I'd love some feedback from experienced roguelite players, especially those who enjoy experimenting with builds and risk/reward mechanics.

I'm particularly curious about two things:

  1. Does sacrificing HP feel like an exciting strategic decision, or does it make you hesitant to buy upgrades?
  2. Do the upgrades feel impactful enough to make the sacrifice worthwhile?

I already collect gameplay telemetry, but numbers can't tell me how a mechanic actually feels to play.

Free Steam Playtest: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4985860/Dreadbleed/

If you prefer traditional survivors-like controls, you can enable auto-shoot in the options.

Brutally honest feedback is more than welcome. Thanks for giving it a shot!

Korean Folklore bullet heaven game from a small Korean team.

Hi all.

We’re ReLU Games, a small team in Korea, and we’ve been working on BARI, a bullet heaven set in Korean folklore. Video attached is a partial clip from our initial trailer.

What makes this project unique is a companion named “Meari”, a spirit that fights next to you by utilizing your own play. Your gameplay data is saved locally, and the technical part we’re proud of is the retrieval: the Meari queries it and retrieves the actions matching the current situation and environment in near real time, closer to say, motion matching than to a scripted AI.

We wanna hear what you think of this feature!

We don't have a demo yet but are working hard to push it out.

But, the Steam page went up recently if you want to keep an eye on it: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5269450/BARI

Mostly we’d like to hear from people who play a lot of roguelites and survivorslikes.

We always happy to answer anything about how it works, or what’s still held together with tape.

We just released the demo for our roguelike deck builder!

Pattern Ring is a roguelike alignment deck builder. Where you align your runes to cast spells in order to defeat enemies. Build your deck and craft your spells to meet the challenges ahead. Feed and grow your companion to aid in battle. Before it's too late, journey to the center of the maze and restore the Pattern Ring.

All art and music are hand-made! We put a lot of effort into this, hoping you enjoy it!

Tierlist Please help me decide on a game to get

Post image
154 Upvotes

Hello people I've made a tier list on the games I have played and how much i enjoy them. Not really sure what draws me in to these games but I'm really hopping to find a game I enjoyed as much as Spirit-fall and Astral ascent. I think I like games where getting a good build feels really rewarding. I also don't mind games like guild-run/slay the spire where I can pretty much autopilot really. I have played the first Monster train, HoW, and StS2. Looking for any suggestions doesn't have to strictly be ones from the bottom tier.

What kind of Upgrades keep you excited in action roguelites?

For me what makes a great action roguelite is how well the upgrade choices are designed. This feeds directly into build variety etc. I am talking about the variety of roguelites here where you get to pick a new ability every level/room/etc. (drafts).

I would spit the genre into 3 rough archetypes:

  1. Mostly flat bonuses

Think Deep Rock Galactic Survivor... 10% crit here, 20 max hp there, another +2 damage on gun X.

Or Brotato: +X to stat Y. With heavy synergies between stats and items.

  1. Pick your abilities

Hades: Pick your Attack, heavy, dodge, special attack, etc. then upgrade them and draft improvements. With some more general perks in between, like debuffs, buffs, etc. Almost every Perk is on a trigger or condition to proc it.

Wizard of legend, etc.

  1. Synergy Based

Often more limited choices, but very synergistic to allow build "fantasies"

e.g. Gunfire Reborn

I’m reviving my Vibeathon game, Axie Darkness Arise: a roguelite card battler where every body part is a card

Hey everyone! A while ago I made Axie Darkness Arise for the Axie Vibeathon (finalist), and I’ve been rebuilding it from the ground up as a proper roguelite card battler.

What’s in the trailer:

  • Story mode with the classic starters: Buba, Puffy and Pomodoro, each with its own deck
  • Tile combat on a ring: every body part is a card. Aim its shape across the ring and chain your combo
  • Read the ring: Healers, Guardians, Archers and Chargers announce their next move, so you can push, stun or interrupt them first
  • Squads that show up at set turns, plus a giant boss at the end of each chapter (Forest, Autumn, Lake and Night)
  • A first look at co-op: each player defends half of a bigger ring (concept only, not playable yet)

It’s a fan project and still a private demo, so I’d love your feedback: does the combat read well? Which classic Axie would you want next?

How Stages Work in My 2D Story-Driven Roguelite RPG

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm developing Warrior Is Just Going, a 2D story-driven roguelite RPG, with an artist. We've been working on it for the past two years.

In my previous post, I talked about the combat system and character progression. This time, I'd like to share more about the game by focusing on its stages and story progression!

In this game, each time you advance to a new stage, you'll randomly encounter one of several different elements.

Monsters, Chests, and More

Combat encounters are the most common, but you may also find item chests and other special locations.

These can offer various benefits, from recovering Health and increasing your stats to obtaining currency or powerful items.

You may even come across a place where you can enhance or repair your equipment!

Progress Through the Story, Unlock New Challenges

As you progress through the story, you'll unlock the next Act, which brings a higher difficulty and more story content.

Since this is a story-driven game, you'll also encounter plenty of dialogue between characters as you continue your journey.

Grow Stronger Between Runs

To help you take on these tougher challenges, you can use the currency earned from your runs to unlock and enhance items and traits.

Even if a run doesn't go as planned, you can still make progress toward your next attempt.

Thanks for watching, and I hope you'll check out Warrior Is Just Going!

I’m also very open to taking feedback so if there’s anything that you’d like to see in the game or that you think should be done better please let me know!

We’re making a Farkle roguelite where one lost match ends your Gauntlet run

These are the enchanted runestones in Tumble Tavern, shown in the clip in the comments below. In the full game, you choose three from eighteen to bring to a match.

They change what you can do with a dice throw: protect the turn, boost a scoring set or bet on a particular face. Your dice have scoring bonuses too, so choosing what to bring gives you more to work with than the roll alone.

The underlying game is Farkle. Keep scoring dice and decide whether to bank your points or roll again. A throw that scores nothing loses the points you’ve built up that turn.

The full game’s Gauntlet takes those decisions through a sequence of rivals. Lose one match and the run ends.

The runestone clip in the comments is a close-up, rather than a match. There’s a free demo on Steam if you’d like to try the dice game itself: it includes the first two campaign fights and the Friendly and Copper tables. The Gauntlet and complete loadout selection are in the full game, launching on 12 November.

Try the demo or wishlist Tumble Tavern on Steam

Full Disclosure: Some AI tools assisted some during development, followed hand editing. No generative AI runs during play and this is months of hard work, we'd rather be transparent.
