My opinion!! But I just watched the new Resident Evil movie last night and it’s now my all time favorite movie. This is the only movie where I literally jumped out of my seat and yelled from fear.
One thing that I’ve noticed no one talking about online is the heavy hidden topics they show in the movie that I would consider myself as “new age horror”. There’s scenes in this movie that I’ve never seen in a horror movie before. Some of these scenes made me feel dread, hopeless and just made me feel uncomfortable in a good scary way. Not complaining here!
For starter, the RV scene when he had to shoot the girl. Seeing the bloody aftermath just made me think about all the school shootings that has happen in the past and how some parents couldn’t identify their child because their face got blown out. I don’t think there’s any movie out there where you see that type of imagery on a child. I’m sure this scene brought fear for any viewer with a child and painted a picture of what they fear daily.
Second scene would be when Bryan ran through the streets while the bodies were falling down to the ground. This just reminds me of 911 when pedestrians and TV watchers saw everybody jump from the buildings. I’ve never seen it first hand in person or on TV and always wondered how that would look like. They kept it realistic in the movie and that pretty much cured my morbid curiosity. I can imagine that scene might be triggering to anyone who’s witness this type of tragedy in person.
Lastly, pretty obvious was the maternity room. Pro-life and Pro-choice is a very heavy topic in America. Many women fear either carrying a child or loosing a child. I feel like that scene in the movie really painted some type of fear for those who fear this topic. Just like with the child, seeing dead babies, dead pregnant women just gives viewers an unsettling vibe. I think the director did an amazing job with this scene. When you think child birth or abortion, you think a bloody mess.
I really hoped I used the correct wording to express how I felt during these scenes. I’m not complaining since I really loved this movie. I just hope it makes sense when I say “new age horror”. Like it’s topics that people would consider scary in this generation.
Very curious if anyone else felt the same way watching this movie. I give this film a 9/10!! Director, writer, and all the artists that worked on this film did such an amazing job!!! :)
