Only after seeing Darrow from someone else's perspective do I see how scary it is to fight the guy, like yeah we know he's strong and all but seeing Darrow from someone else's perspective is a whole different thing

Finished Light Bringer last night.
Good morning to everyone not named Lysander.
I’m so annoyed with how that book ended and furious I have to wait for the seventh book.
It’s been a blast reading these books my Goodmen.
A bloodydamn good time.

I know the whole point is people at that level are all bastards to some degree but damn, The Minotaur is the perfect adversary. Like, we’ve all heard of anti-heroes but he’s an anti-villain. Every scene with him is wonderful. One of the best characters in the series

I’m 5 books in and I still can’t comprehend half of what is going on. I can still enjoy them, hence why I am five books in, but I struggle so bad to keep up or even visualise a lot of what is happening. I never know where we are or how we got there, what’s happening and to who etc etc. I’m on Dark Age, only about 12% of the way and I have to google things every 5 minutes. I fear it’s above my level of reading comprehension or rather my concentration levels because I bet if I sat and properly analysed every sentence I’d get it in the end. Either my reading comprehension sucks, my brain is lazy or both. Either way I struggle and I fear I’m not getting the best experience I could be of these great books.
Edit: To clarify, I didn’t find the first book difficult. I didn’t keep up 100% with names and houses and all but it wasn’t that big of a deal. It was once complexity increased the further the series went that I started becoming lost a lot more frequently.
I’m a fully grown adult who hasn’t read much sci-fi or high fantasy (besides the Priory of the Orange Tree, which I would say is a similar level for me) thank you to those being helpful and to those saying I am in fact stupid, thank you for your honesty I guess.
I read quite a lot but since my adult years I have swayed towards mystery, thriller and horror, with a sprinkle of fantasy here and there. Most of the fantasy I consumed was YA when that was the main genre I read.

History shows us what humanity is capable of. Fiction just gives us more ways to explore it.
Starting my journey into Red Rising by Pierce Brown. Something tells me this one's going to be a ride.
No spoilers, please. I'm just getting started. 🔴

Red rising is known for having many horrifying and brutal moments like the blood eagle, the jackal torturing Darrow and Ulysses on the tree. However, some go under the radar like Tharsus being crippled then fed to a manticore whilst having a bowl over his head to preserve it as a trophy. That moment was incredibly shocking despite the fact that it came from the fear knight himself as it shows that he’s still capable of causing terror even in seemingly peaceful areas. What moments do you think are overlooked in terms of brutality?

She’s killing Lysander. Everyone says it’s gonna be Darrow or Sevro, but that’s just not likely. I can’t envision either of them doing it. The most I see happening in RG is them defeating Lysander and either Rhonna assassinating him or some other plot point. It just makes sense for her to do it.

The Battle of Phobos. It’s well written, it has a lot of great moments, it’s certainly not as epic as the Ladon. But it was super hype seeing Victra launch a rain behind enemy lines (even if the reason it worked being thanks to Cissero’s incompetence). Valdir is awesome, etc etc. Pity them fuck yeah :D
The reason it’s so frustrating is it highlights what the republic really sucks at. Intel. For whatever reason they are just so bad at it. In IG I don’t even blame Darrow for going after the Ash Lord. They have a veritable army of Greens, and all these people, and they couldn’t figure out that Atalantia was leading the society for years. Why do they suck so bad at intelligence gathering? Holy hell. You’d think it would be one of their strengths, but maybe they burned too many assets, and have nothing left.
Back on point Virginia almost crashed out in the Nexus because they’re intelligence was so shit, you let Lysander have the initiative, an esoteric rim order wiped half the fleet on the pole because the republic can’t even scuttle something properly. It really just goes to show that Darrow is the only reason the republic accomplished anything during the time skip. Jesus Christ man. It’s like they’re trying to lose. And that was without Atalantia who’s stronger than all the forces attacking Phobos combined.
Darrow needs a pay raise and a bigger statue. I for once agree with Dancer. I have no confidence in These guys without Darrow. (Though unlike Dancer knowing that wouldn’t have stabbed Darrow in the back) Thank god Darrow’s coming back, but I’m worried how jacked up Mars is going to be by the time he gets there.

Potential spoilers if you haven’t read the entire series.
Who is he? And why don’t we know him?
How did she conceive her daughter?

What a great chapter. (C17 Lightbringer). Not often we get politics written so compellingly and dramatically.

Posted it earlier but just wanted to post again. I have a ticket available to Cheltenham Literacy Festival and the talk with PS on Friday at 9:00 p.m. If anyone can make it, I would like it to go to a good home and somebody who can actually get there. Give me a shout.

Holy facking smokes. Decided for my third re reading I would do the graphic audio and it is absolutely phenomenal
Mustang VA has completely changed how I view mustang. Maybe as a guy reading we aren't as good as imagining the emotions characters have or betray, or at least I'm not as good. She's phenomenal anyways, so is darrow. Sevreo you get use to, dancer was a bit disappointing but absolutely everyone else ranges from good to phenomal.
Only on golden son part 1 but HIGHLY recommend

Hi all
I'm attending the event in Birmingham this weekend and just wondered how these things normally go? I've not been to one of these Waterstones Author Events before so not really sure what to expect. I'm guessing it's a bit like a live podcast with someone lobbing Q+A's at him?
Also, has anyone been to Gas Street Central before as a venue? Curious to know what it's like, what the cap is etc. The event is sold out so I don't want to be scrapping for a chair!
Thanks, hope to see some nice folks there.
