WHAT BREED IS HE?! RAT TERRIER MIX? CHIHUAHUA? JACK RUSSELL? ALL OF THE ABOVE? He is SO high energy and loves everything and everyone, but still loves to snuggle. (Why his legs so god dang long?)

Iām looking for bed recommendations to put in my dogs crate. Sheās a rough chewer and recently started destroying her bed, like having way too much fun in her crate ripping apart her bed.
For those who might think ājust donāt put a bed in thereā I have reason not to follow this route, explained below!!
I adopted her in January and her bed has been in her crate since then. She has not touched it until the past couple of weeks. She is on full rest per vetās orders, so I think the combo of not feeling herself and her exercise needs not being met is really upsetting her lil terrier brain. I really want to keep her comfortable. Also, not having her needs met makes it incredibly hard for her to settle outside of her crate. She only sleeps in her crate.
If thereās a rougher bed that might survive better than the one we have now, Iād love to hear it. Even anything that isnāt necessarily marketed as a dog bed - if itās worked for you please share!

Our 10 yr old had a bug bite on his back leg near his paw, but he licked and licked it until itās now irritated and raw. We put a cone on him, but because itās his back leg he can still reach it. Everytime it starts healing he licks it over night and we start again. The cone from the vet is shorter than the one we have. I have tried looking for an extender that makes the cone longer but apparently this isnāt a thing, although it really should be! What has worked for everyone?

Hi r/ratterriers - please meet Quimby and Quill. We adopted them as a bonded pair. We were told/believe they're rat-a-paps. (The shelter said "papillon mix"). They're between 2-4 years of age. Quimby has the feathers and he's maybe Quill's puppy. We don't know. They are loves.

I am just trying to see if there is anything I am missing with treating Peterās allergies and his affected paws. They are really bad this season and I am not sure what else to try. If anyone has had luck with any treatments I havenāt tried, I would greatly appreciate it.
What we are doing or have done:
- Doubled his daily dose of Apoquel (doctor approved)
- Cytopoint injection (done about a month ago)
- Chlorohexidine wipes if we walk through fields or if he plays in the backyard for an extended period of time
- Duoxo Chlorohexidine foam (doctor said to apply every other day which we started just over a week ago)
His paws seem to get better but then they get worse again.
I am almost certain this is not food related. This only happens in late summer and early fall. With that being said he has never been tested for food allergies. It also only affects his paws.
His last vet visit for this issue was about a month ago - followed by two different phone calls where we sent pictures and discussed available options.

My 5 year old female rat terrier mix has a torn ACL/CCL. The vet is recommending TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery. He says she will not recover without it. Iām concerned because sheās so young and my last rat terrier lost the use of her back legs at 16 and we had to put her down. I donāt want to speed up the process.
Has anyone done ACL surgery on a small dog like this? How did it go?

My little Jimmie is having her first heat. She isnāt a fan on the doggie diaper. One of the reasons is I believe that my husband got the wrong size. But have any owners had any success with trying to keep little dots of blood off of everything?

My 6 mo old rat terrier keeps cutting his paw pads down on walks outside. It happens on several of the pads. Took him to vet and they gave a cone/cream for it, suggested wearing booties for walks, and that was all. Should I be more concerned that this keeps happening? For context we live in NYC so walks consist of pavement only, and Iāve been watching where he walks to make sure he doesnāt step on glass.

Is there anything these dogs cannot do? Any sport i throw him at he charges full speed into it.
Walking away from our first ever Sprinters trial with 233 points earning his novice title and well on the way to his next!
It was cold, snowing, wet and windy but he was in the top 3 dogs for speed running 100 yards in 9 seconds!

So far it has only been a day but she has been very good and slept all night. On our walks she hasnāt seen any squirrels or anything but saw some deer that were hanging out in a park. She sort of fixated, growled a bit but didnāt lunge or anything. She has growled lightly at people when we walked by them in a hallway but was sweet and moved on right after. What do you all think? TIA!
She is about 6 months and 18 pounds. If itās not possible to tell, I understand!

Hello, I am a double Rattie owner. Dazzler (Tri-Color) is 10 and Colossus (Chocolate and White) is 6. I have had both since they were puppies. I loved Dazzler so much that when I decided to get her a sibling I knew I wanted another Rattie. They are both such sweet babies. My partner and I have a void kitty too and she is the family baby so she gets a lot of reddit post attention from me. So I figured these two derps needed some love.
