I make just a little too much.

I’m honestly just sick of it. I’m sick of being the person who pays every damn tax they throw at me, only to get told I “make too much” for any help. It’s ridiculous. I’m not rich. I’m not living some luxury lifestyle. I’m just barely above whatever arbitrary cutoff some bureaucrat scribbled on a form, and because of that, I get nothing.

Meanwhile, I watch people who make a little less get benefits, credits, discounts, and rebates. And good for them, but it’s insane that I’m standing here paying full price for everything while also funding the programs I don’t qualify for. How does that make sense? How am I the one footing the bill and getting zero in return?

I’m not poor enough to get help, not wealthy enough to shrug off the costs, just trapped in the middle paying for everyone else’s perks. And every time the government brags about “supporting working people,” they’re talking about everyone except the ones who actually pay for the benefits.

I’m tired of being the one who does everything right and somehow ends up with the least. I’m tired of being punished for earning just a little too much. And I’m tired of pretending this system isn’t completely backwards.

I hate this stupid rounding change system

I’m a broke college kid so I’m going to be nitpicky about this

Why when I went to a different Target than the one I usually go to, I find they round their change?? I’m not sure if it’s to the nearest dollar or ¢10, but I owed $15.04 and gave the cashier $20.10 (didn’t have pennies or nickels) so she didn’t have to go digging for ¢96. She gave me a 5 and I was expecting the other ¢6 and mentioned it. I’m not a confrontational person so even this gave me anxiety. I’m not sure she understood, but she starts explaining that if its ¢95 or more owed back, they round up… so basically I didn’t need to give her that extra ¢10

I decide to ask for my dime back and she ever so slowly turns to me, stares at me without blinking for nearly a minute, and slowly turns around again and starts aggressively tapping some buttons to get the change. Like I’m sorry?? What are the theatrics for?? So much fucking attitude even though I would’ve been owed back $5 regardless

I thought maybe I said something wrong or she wasn’t understanding (English didn’t seem to be her first language) but she was just being a bitch for no reason. Acting like it was coming out of her pay check but it’s literally not. God forbid a billion dollar company loses 4 fucking cents

The world is not ever going to be a Utopia

Every leader current, past, and future, are screaming unruly entitled spoiled toddlers with way too much screen time and not enough designated story time who are all on a fucking playground hitting and swearing at each other with no responsible adult in sight, but the adults who are around have let them play with guns and missiles and battleships to keep them from bothering them so they can go about their day in a predictable manner. Every single one of these assholes needs a fucking time out, grounding, time away from their devices and toys, and to sit in a fucking corner so they can think about what they have done wrong. Every human being needs and wants to live peacefully, and despite the insane technological advancements, medical advancements, cultural advancements... we are still here bombing and threatening each other as if we somehow have a replay button. It is so sickening and ridiculous that the world with all of it's good still has such fucked up intent. Why. Can't. We. Just. Fucking. Chill. For. Once. Why? Why is that so fucking hard? It's absolutely not. It is human nature to take the path of least resistance. Why the fuck does it have to be so friction based. Fuck patriotism, fuck teams, fuck religion and fuck culture. It is humans at the end of the day. Why can't we just fucking be humans and be friends or at least neighbors we are annoyed by but still tolerate? Why is that sooooooo fucking hard?

What value does trading produce to the world?

I love how almost every job contributes something meaningful to society except for trading. God I'm so tired of people asking for which stocks is gonna make them rich, or how to set up a trading bot with 1000% return rate. The entire stock market is just gambling or insider trading.

Name me one benefit of trading. Every single company that becomes public instantly becomes shit because the moment they become public then all their focus is on keeping investors happy and keeping their stocks high. It's all so fake and I'm so tired of it

Assuming someone is AI...

...because they can compose multiple sentences and organize them into coherent paragraphs says more about the inability of the person making the claim than the writer.

Read books instead of tiktok subtitles and you may develop some person writing style and ability, as well.

I have a great deal of concern for the future.

I hate how weight-loss-focused the world is

I've had a pretty rough year with my health. Ever since May I have had a lot of issues with stomach aches, headaches, etc. Still not even totally sure what all is wrong and if I have something like Long COVID or of it's anxiety or what. But anyway, I've been so stressed out over the past 6-ish months that I haven't really been eating enough every day and have lost some weight.

I don't have an eating disorder, but it's more "disordered eating" (I've talked to my doctor about it already lol). It's not that I'm avoiding eating or anything like that, but rather just end up sorta forgetting to eat a lot lately because so much else has been on my mind. Overall I've ended up losing about 15 pounds over 6 months, which isn't like dangerous weight loss or anything, BUT it's definitely not a healthy way to lose weight.

Yet, it seems like every time my weight gets brought up or I wear clothes that make it easy to see my stomach, everyone seems so happy that I've lost weight. My Mom was glad I lost the weight, my girlfriend told me I looked skinnier, etc. And yes, in some ways I'm glad I've lost some weight too, I was borderline obese, BUT, I didn't want to lose it this way! And I'm not happy that people seem to be ignoring that my lost weight is actually part of a problem I'm dealing with. It's not good to celebrate weight loss that happened through unhealthy means.

Time to stop telling people that chorizo is not a sausage.

As someone born into Latino culture, but not always Latino passing especially in the winter, it's absolutely nerve-racking to have a non-hispanic/Latino attempt to argue with me that a chorizo isn't a sausage.

An Italian sausage is a sausage

A polish sausage is a sausage

A Mexican sausage is a sausage

A Spanish sausage isn't a sausage?

You worked at a place for a couple years that sells chorizo on the menu. Dunkin donuts. It's not my problem that you don't take the time out of your day not once to look up what a chorizo is. It says a type of sausage or it will just say Spanish sausage. Too make matters even worse it looks exactly the same shape as an Italian sausage.

If one has different spices than the other, it never changes the fact that it's a Fkin sausage.

Do you go around telling people Korean chicken isn't chicken because it has some different spices in it than what you're used to? No you don't. You just say Korean chicken. You can say it in Korean , it still means fkin chicken. Do you tell people Korean BBQ isn't a BBQ? Just because it's a barbecue that you didn't grow up around? You don't. You say Korean BBQ.

I win all these arguments by telling them that chorizo translates to sausage.

"well we don't call it sausage, we call it Chorizo"

I would except that if you were Spanish speaking. But you're not Spanish.

STFU

Making life harder because you had it worse is an insane take

We are in 2026 and somehow every day life is getting enshittified more and more. This is from an American perspective, so if your country does it better, I envy you.

I keep seeing posts about housing prices, wages, working hours, and people questioning the breaking point. What irks me is the replies all saying, "This generation just doesn't want to work. I used to have to work a job I hated, it's just life". They refuse to admit that they could afford a home on that job. They could take a yearly vacation on that job. They didn't have to have a spouse also working 2 jobs.

We have 300 million people in the U.S. and not enough jobs. The older generation believes everyone has to work hard and contribute to society in some type of blue collar manner. It is not feasible or possible. We have an over abundance of labor. We are working just to make the rich richer at this point. Why can't we just take a step back and look at the world crumbling around us and admit we fucked up and need to change? Why is everyone so actively against enrichment of life?

I see the same thing with electric cars. "I wouldn't buy one, they can't be worked on and they will die on the road every 30 seconds and have 2 miles of range." As an EV owner, none of it is true.

I am just tired of the oldheads who spew propaganda and refuse to allow policies to make out lives better. They are actively lobbying against the things that would lead to a better and more sustainable life for the next generation. They will then game the same system to sell their house for a 300% profit.

I am frustrated that the world is literally burning around us. Jobs don't fucking exist. Everything is too expensive to afford. AI is threatening the world itself. Yet, people double-down and tell us to suck it up and walk in and apply for a job. Network better. They tell us that they dealt with issues and they just had to figure it out. We are being told it's our fault for overspending. It's our fault for wanting a slight bit of joy outside of work. It's our fault for taking out a predatory student loan.

Do people truly believe if they just hurt others a little more that they themselves will see the benefit? Why are so many people supporting these billionaires and trillionaires? I understand the people who cannot afford to just quit and try to make an impact. I want to know what compels people to actively work against progression? Yet, it seems like there was a line drawn in the sand that a comedian making a joke about what women wear to the gym. Make it make sense.

I’m tired of people acting like you’re missing out just because you don’t like something

I’m so tired of hearing the same stuff on the internet. “Well, you’re missing out!” “Well, you should give it a chance!” “Well, you’re this, you’re that!”
No! Why is it so hard for people to accept that someone doesn’t like something? Why does every little difference in preference have to turn into an argument where someone feels the need to convince you that you’re wrong?

For example, let’s say you don’t like a certain music artist or a particular genre of music. People will tell you that you’re missing out, that you need to listen to more of their songs, or that you just haven’t found the right song yet. But what if you’ve already listened to their music and simply don’t enjoy it? Why can’t people just accept that? Not everyone has to enjoy the same music, and that’s perfectly fine.

People need to understand that no means no. If someone doesn’t enjoy something, stop trying to convince them to like it or keep doing it. You don’t have to agree with their feelings, but you do need to respect them. Constantly trying to change someone’s mind after they’ve already said no isn’t respecting their boundaries.

I’m tired of people acting like you’re missing out just because you don’t enjoy the same things they do. Not everyone has to like what you like, and not everyone owes you an explanation for why they don’t like it.

Sometimes, “I don’t like it” is a complete answer. You can recommend something to someone, but if they say they’re not interested, learn to let it go. Not everything needs to be a debate.

I’m just tired of the internet constantly turning personal preferences into something people feel the need to argue about. Let people dislike things. Let people say no. It’s really not that difficult.

I hate /s

It annoys the absolute f*** out of me that people feel the need to put /s at the end of every single obviously non-serious sentence. Sure if the sarcasm is really subtle, fair enough... But if you write "If you don't eat all your broccoli, the broccoli police will come and put you in broccoli jail"...

I can't remember that /s to be around 10+ years ago. If someone didn't get that something wasn't meant seriously.. tough shit. We survived anyway.

I never use /s. If you're too f**** stupid to recognize blatantly obvious sarcasm without someone explicitly spelling it out for you, I don't give a damn about your opinion anyway.

How can I trust anyone anymore?

I don't really know what to say but I need to get some words down and out to someone who will listen, I feel incredibly low right now. I feel like I can't trust a single soul. And I just need to be heard.

Recently I've had what I thought was the love of my life leave for London (I live in manchester UK). We had an on/off relationship for 9 months (2 years in total) and now she's finally left my city. We had the most incredible relationship and also the worst which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. We were best friends, but argued all the time... I don't know how someone could be so nice and nasty at the same time. (See post history for details). Even though I know we shouldn't be together, I can't get her out of my head, it's every single day that I think about her. There are too many details about our relationship to mention but even though we broke up, how can someone who supposedly loves me, make a decision to leave, without even letting me know until last minute, I wouldn't dream of doing that to someone I love and if I was in her shoes, I never would have left without mentioning it to her first. We haven't been together properly for 6 months but it finally feels real now shes gone and, I feel betrayed.

On top of this, I've recently been told over the last few weeks that I'm being made redundant, at a company where some of my really close friends are. I thought this was the most stable company anyone could work for, they make upwards of £250,000,000 a year, they're a 'mutual' company and they are cutting 250 IT infrastructure jobs just like that. They always talk about the 'values' of the company, one of them being integrity and honesty, then they do me/us like that. I feel betrayed.

And last week, I went on a trip with a close family friend, long story short just before we were boarding the plane to return home, I fainted, couldn't see or breath for around 20 seconds, it was last calls for the flight, I turned and managed to tell him that I couldn't breath. A family friend, someone I've known since 4 years old, literally looked at me and left me to board the plane, I then had to wait 12 hours for the next flight to a city an hour away from my city. That's exactly how it happened. I have no words.

On top of this, I have been dating since I broke up with my girlfriend, whilst some were fun, dating seems very shallow and seems there are so many external factors that stop people forming meaningful relationships. I say this as a guy that has absolutely no trouble dating or getting dates. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older (34 now), dating feels more transactional than ever, more and more girls expect me to pay, not that I automatically pay or they overtly state they expect me to pay, but there's an underlying tone that it's expected. I now haven't dated for over 2 months, I have zero desire, I've lost faith in trusting people, where I didn't have much trust to being with.

I feel incredibly deflated and almost at an all time low. With all that's happened recently, I feel I can't trust a single soul and I'm better just retreating into a small little world where I can't get hurt, I want to protect the little boy I used to be from the world.

I don't really know what I'm looking for in this post, I feel upset, numb, betrayed, low and I just need to get it out.

Passive-aggressive, Condescending, Patronizing Coworker

There's a guy at my work, let's call him Jake.

I've never met anyone like Jake before in my 35 years on this planet. He is 42 years old. It's like he enjoys telling people they've done something wrong... Or correcting people's mistakes, or heavily implying that you're bad at your job or just bad at things in general.

That, in and of itself, isn't inherently a negative trait in a person, but the way he goes about it, and also how often he seeks out this behaviour is extremely irritating. He has this vibe about him and it's constantly there. This condescending, patronizing vibe at all times. Everything you say, think, ask, or do -- he will make it out to be stupid or childish. It's like he's mastered the art of being a condescending douchebag.

I'll try to explain this in a bit more detail. You know how if someone smells really bad? Maybe they don't shower. Nobody really wants to be the one to tell that person they stink. Why? Because it's awkward. That's normal to feel awkward about that. Most people probably would want to avoid having that awkward conversation with someone.

But Jake? He looooves to tell people things like this. It's almost like he gets this weird powerful feeling of superiority when he tells someone they need to do this or they shouldn't have done that. Call people out, fine, go ahead. But always seeking out ways to correct people or tell them they've done something wrong 24/7 on every... single... little... thing.... It's way too much. Most of which doesn't even need correcting, but he has this insatiable need to be the ultimate correcter.

Even more importantly is his tone when he's doing it. He's not doing it in a respectful way. He always has this large half smirk on his face, almost insinuating that you're doing something very shameful and he's really embarrassed to be saying it to you. He might even put both his hands up as if to say "calm down" when he hasn't even begun to say anything yet, but he's kind of warning you that it's coming. I know that sounds odd, but it's the only way I can explain it.

The most annoying part - most of the time he is just flat out wrong. He will imply that you are bad at your job, or he'll accuse you of things you simply have not done. Jake has accused me of sleeping when I wasn't, accused me of leaving a bunch of shit in the toilet which I didn't, accused me of leaving garbage all over the break room when I didn't, among many other things over the years. Baseless allegations, all along with that smug smirk on his face the whole time. It's incredibly aggravating, especially with this superiority complex vibe that you're beneath him and you're scum.

And when he accuses you of these things? Good fucking luck telling him you didn't do them. That condescending, passive-aggressive smirk just gets bigger and bigger. He's even said on occasion "Oooh look how defensive you're getting! 😏😏😏" Well, yeah. I'm getting defensive. You're accusing me of something I didn't do and I'm defending myself. It's a natural human reaction.

For context here, I work security, and he works as a screening officer. Different company, different job, but we occasionally work alongside one another. His job is to search people and their belongings. That's it. My job is mainly access control, but also to keep an eye on things. This is where the biggest issue lies. He also likes to keeps an eye on things and will insinuate that I'm not keeping my eye on things. No other screening officer does this. There's over 400 of them at this location.

One time, just minutes after I had started my shift, he came over to me with that smirk on his face, telling me about a chair that was in one of the doorways. He kept on insisting that the chair is a "fire hazard". Again, hes not fully saying "You're terrible at your job, you're the security guy. You should have seen this. You take care of this, idiot" but it's absolutely implied along with his body language, mannerisms, and tone of voice.

So I ignored him and eventually did move that chair a little while later. The door slams shut as I move the chair away. He watches me for my whole entire shift though, and right as I moved it, he immediately starts shouting to me about how that door is broken, it doesn't shut right, and it's going to swing open now that I've moved the chair because of the wind and it will break the door hinge. Again, I'm just trying to ignore him because he's being his annoying self, so I just chuckle and walk away. He immediately gets up and says "I'm not joking!" and runs to the door, opens it and jams a door stopper in it. (When he isn't around, the door shuts perfectly fine on its own, doesn't fly open like he says it does)

It's almost as if he did that on purpose. When that happened I immediately thought HE must have put that chair there. All so that he could correct my actions. This is what I'm saying. No matter what you do, it is always the wrong choice, and I think he loves it. Loves correcting people. Makes him feel like a man. This is just one very small example among thousands of others over the years.

And you absolutely cannot ever ask him politely to stop doing what he's doing, or even tell him how you feel. Trust me, I have tried. He is always careful to initially act in a very passive-aggressive manner, which gives him plausible deniability. (instead of being assertive, in which case we could actually have an adult conversation instead of all the one-sided bullshit) So he just denies it and acts like you're insane. He'll even put his hands up and act like you're being aggressive.

By the way, it's not just me, either. I've spoken with 7 other screening officers and they all confirm it. One of them said that when they're working with Jake, there's always going to be "fireworks" that shift. Jake will always freak out about small, mundane things and say they need to make a phonecall and make a huge deal out of nothing. "That's the way Jake has always been" they say. Well, I say, as a 42 year old man, it's time to grow up.

So I have absolutely no choice but to just keep taking it and taking it and taking it, approach every interaction with a very passive attitude and let him believe he's right 100% of the time, all the while slowly going more and more insane every day. There are even others that have said he does that "oh I'm just joking around" shtick with them too right after he insults them.

The way it works around here is kind of like a random rotation, so I may see him multiple times a week, or sometimes maybe I'll go a week or two without seeing him and that's always so blissful.

TL:DR

This guy is a know-it-all with an ego the size of the moon

I am so fed up with the medical industrial complex and healthcare

I've generally been a healthy person my whole life, but in the last few years, I've experienced some health issues that have made me realize the health industry is absolutely fucking useless. Doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, etc. they're all basically fucking guessing and then taking all my money.

I had a seizure for the first time, and against every instinct I had, I went to the ER because everyone was yelling at me that I had to. I waited 10 hours to be seen. They ran a bunch of tests and, after a few more hours, shrugged and said, We don't know why it happened; you're free to go, then they sent me a $6,000 bill. No diagnosis, no treatment, but a massive bill for showing up when that's what everyone told me I HAD to do.

For years, my dog has had these recurring episodes of nausea. I've told 3 different vets, taken videos of the episodes, tracked the circumstances, and every single fucking vet has shrugged and said, "that's weird," then charged me $200. She still has them and we don't know why or how to help her.

These are just two recent examples. I'm so tired of being fucking shrugged at by the people I seek help from when something seems wrong. And I'm REALLY sick of giving my entire salary to people who do absolutely nothing for me.

We all know health insurance is an evil, bullshit industry. But the healthcare industry itself isn't much better. Doctors can't seem to help with any issues that aren't perfectly textbook, and what's more, many don't even seem to care enough to TRY. I'm exhausted.

I can't let my dog die and it's tearing me apart.

(If the title wasn't clear enough, consider this a TW for pet sickness and death.)

My (27M) dog (13, golden retriever) has an aggressive form of cancer that has mainly manifested as a tumor at the back of his tongue, near his throat. At first, we were able to remove it surgically, but the plan was then to start localized chemotherapy to hopefully stop the cancer from spreading. However, at the time, I lacked the funds to pay for the regular sessions recommended by the veterinary oncologist, so I had to wait a few months to try to cobble something together.

The months passed, and when I was finally able to afford the treatment and went back to the vet, the preliminary tests revealed that the cancer had metastasized and spread to his lungs. At that point, he was considered a palliative patient.

I always knew that was a strong possibility. Even if I had started treatment on time, tumors of the tongue tend to be malignant and quite aggressive. But obviously, I was still devastated, especially since I had already lost a pet earlier this year: a 17-year-old fox terrier who had been by my side since childhood.

Now, my only remaining dog is also nearing the end of his life, and despite my efforts, I can see him suffering. His tongue tumor has returned, bigger than before. He can barely drink water or eat on his own, and I'm scared he'll end up suffocating because of the tumor, with little I can do to ease his suffering.

At this point, euthanasia is more than just an option; it's the most humane thing to do. But, (un)fortunately, my mom is visiting me for the first time in more than two years, after having moved to another country. Of course, she wants to say goodbye to my dog, as he was the family dog before she left, and she also wants to be with me when it happens.

The bright side is that she's arriving in two days, and I'm confident my dog will make it until then. But each day, I have to watch him eat less, drink less, spend more time indoors (when he's always loved going for walks), and see the tumor grow bigger, bleed, and visibly make him uncomfortable despite the painkillers I give him.

In these circumstances, each day feels like physical torture to me, and I can only imagine what he's going through. I wish I could explain to him what's happening, why he's still suffering even though I'm trying to help him, and why I haven't made it stop.

The saddest thing is that I know this is illogical. He's straight-up the best dog ever and the definition of unconditional love. He trusts me so much that I don't need to explain anything to him; it wouldn't make a difference anyway. And somehow, that makes me feel even worse.

TL;DR: My dog was diagnosed with very graphic kind of cancer and is rapidly deteriorating. Even though I feel the time is right for euthanasia, I can't bring myself to do it yet because my mom is coming to visit in a couple of days, and this may be her last chance to say goodbye to the family dog who's been part of our lives for the past 11 years.

I feel somewhat ok

I’m taking an AP Chem class, and while I do absolutely love chemistry and science I will admit I’ve been struggling. I understand everything we talk about in the lectures, I take plenty of notes, I study hard and for long periods of time, I do practice tests, ect. but i swear it’s like I get memory wiped when it’s time to actually apply it.

I’m at a point where I’m realizing I’m being too hard on myself, because I DO know it all. I understood enough if it to be placed in AP Chem in the first place, and the only thing holding me back is memory recall. And even if I don’t pass, it’s better to fail while throwing everything you have into the course than to fail after giving up. My grades are slowly improving, and so if I have to claw my way to a passing grade, that’s what I’ll do. (I have gotten better at remembering more things, so I feel a bit more confident)

Roommate not cleaning after themselves

• Upvotes

Does anyone know how to co-exist with roommate who lives a messy lifestyle? 25yo male living with 2 male roommates in a small 4 bedroom house. We are several months into our lease and I’m starting to notice some patterns that could eventually cause conflict if they are not addressed soon. One of my roommates seems to have trouble cleaning after himself. He is a great guy but sometimes I get really pissed off with him when I am around him. The amount of times I’ve brought the topic of cleaning up to him is concerning. It seems like each time its brought up he doesn't seem to put any actual effort into cleaning going forward. He still leaves trash and dishes in our common spaces, dishes in the sink, used pots and pans on the stove top, grocery store bags and open bags of snack food on our kitchen counters, and lets food expire in our cabinets and fridge. I don’t bring it up much and I tell myself to just leave it alone if I see it and that he will get it eventually. But I swears day and weeks will just go by and nothing has been touched. Occasionally the dishes would be dealt with but food and stains are just ignored. No joke there as been a half eaten bag of hamburger buns sitting on our kitchen island for over 2 weeks and didn’t notice it until I brought it up to him. Those buns expired almost a month ago.

His room is always messy and he never puts effort into cleaning or doing his laundry. He keeps his door open and all I see are piles of clothes, trash, and boxes full of stuff everywhere. The other day I had to walk through there when he wasn’t around as we needed some work done on our houses pluming that required me to get to our backdoor in his room. What I saw makes me worried about his mental health. Around his bed are piles of clothes and bags. At the base of his computer desk there are dirty dishes and half eaten containers of snack food. On his desk are fast-food bags, fast food drinks, soda cans, and mixed drink glasses. To get to his backdoor I have to walk over boxes, dishes, shoes, musical equipment, clothes, food, and wires.

My other roommate took notice to and we have asked him individually to clean his room several times. We have even offered to help him clean it up on our free time and he always rejects help and pushing it under the rug for later. I don't know if I am an the asshole for wishing he clean up more but this behavior is really starting to piss my off. I thought it might be going through some hard times but he just says that he is OK and I just don’t believe it. Whenever he is here he usually just sits on his phone doomscrolling or watching something the TV. He seems to always be eating something to and that something he eats always ends up in between our couch or left on it with the bag open.

I’m planning on sitting down and talking with him about all of this tonight but I’m afraid that its going to be inconclusive. Before this house we had a extremely toxic roommate who didn’t respect any of us. I really don’t want to come off as controlling or argumentative. But I’m not sure where to go if our attempts keep falling through.

If anyone can inquire it will be greatly appreciated.

I'm tired but still holding on

I'm freshly out of a physically, mentally and sexually abusive relationship. I was not treated like a human and was belittled a lot. Life is not looking okay. I still haven't gotten a job. I started having constant nightmares. I have ptsd and intense emotional flashbacks of the past. I'm trying my best but I'm scared. And lonely. I don't like sleeping alone or staying all by myself. Don't have enough money and am constantly having to ask my parents. Can't focus enough. I'm going to therapy but it's still generally difficult because I feel like something in me has truly died or like my ex was a demon. I still remembered how he looked at me and how small I felt. I'm in lot of educational debt and badly need a job to support myself. But everything feels multitudes harder.

I'm trying. But it's difficult. I'm tired. I want rest and some warmth and companionship. Some stability and acceptance. Although even if I get them I'll probably still keep having those nightmares.

Mom keeping AC on at the coldest temperature in October (in the Canadian Prairies)

• Upvotes

My mom and I live in a studio apartment with eight large windows, so you can practically feel the temperature outside indoors. It’s 7 celsius outside now. There’s so much condensation on the windows that it drips into puddles, and the air feels damp and bitterly cold. My mom keeps the AC on at the lowest setting because she gets overheated easily. I understand that, but I have joint pain and migraines that get significantly worse in the cold, and no amount of layering helps my freezing face, shivering, or nose from running. I’m also worried my cat is freezing.
No matter how many times I explain how much the cold affects me, my mom just rolls her eyes and gets frustrated that I keep bringing it up. She won’t let me get a space heater because she’s worried about fire hazards and my cat getting hurt. I’m genuinely scared about winter because if it’s already this cold in October, I don’t know how I’m supposed to cope when Winnipeg temperatures drop even further. I feel so helpless knowing I might have to spend the entire winter freezing in my own home, and I don’t know how to get her to take my concerns seriously.

Check the lock BEFORE you try opening the door

For God's sake. Where I work, there are two single use bathrooms. It seems like every time I use it, there is someone who just tries to burst in. There is a sign on both doors indicating what the lock looks like when it is locked. Just take the 1 second it takes to look instead of giving me a heart attack.
