Showcase X-Nite: An Xbox-Inspired Playnite Experience — Profiles, Home Screen & Xbox Guide

Hey Playnite community!

Following my first post introducing X-Nite, I've put together a more detailed video showing how some of its main features work together in everyday use.

This first part focuses on personalization and navigation: Profiles, Home Screen and the Xbox Guide.

The idea is to walk through the experience, from creating a profile to organizing your home screen and accessing the guide's quick controls.

Here's what you'll find in this video:

👤 Profiles & Personalization — 00:00

Create local profiles and personalize names, avatars, accent colors and backgrounds. I also demonstrate importing and cropping images directly within the interface.

Each profile can keep its own favorites, pinned games and custom game groups.

🏠 Home Screen — 02:53

A closer look at organizing your home screen: pinning and unpinning games, rearranging them, creating and editing groups, and choosing which groups appear on the dashboard.

The goal is to let each person organize their games in a way that suits them, while keeping everything accessible with a controller.

🎮 Xbox Guide — 08:30

Explore the guide and its layered panels, including recent games, library and group access, music controls, profile shortcuts and settings.

I also demonstrate rearranging the guide tabs. Music and audio controls use the optional UniPlaySong and playnite-nx-audio-switcher integrations.

X-Nite is still in development, and there isn't a public download yet. I'm continuing to refine navigation, performance and compatibility with different setups.

The next part will focus on the games: the game library, collection browsing and achievements.

I'd love to hear what you think:

  • Does organizing profiles and the home screen feel intuitive?
  • Do the guide's shortcuts cover what you'd use during a gaming session?
  • Is there any step that could be simpler when using only a controller?

For anyone discovering the project: X-Nite combines a customized theme with the X-Nite Profile System extension. It builds on DashX – XBOX Experience by saVantCZ, who deserves credit for the original theme.

Thanks for following the project! If you're commenting on a specific detail, including a timestamp really helps.

Addon release I made an Xbox-style guide for Playnite fullscreen: Discord, achievements, game switching, all from the controller (free, open source)

I've been running my PC as a console on the TV with Playnite fullscreen, and I kept hitting the same annoyances. The Xbox button doesn't really do anything useful. Alt-tabbing out of games with a controller is a pain. Achievement pop-ups are tiny from the sofa. And as soon as my brother wanted to jump on Discord for some CoD, I was back to needing a mouse.

So I built CouchKit. Double-tap the Xbox button and a guide slides in over whatever you're playing, a bit like the Xbox one:

- Home: what you're playing (with session time, HowLongToBeat and achievement progress), resume, screenshot, close game, or switch straight to another recent game
- Party: Discord calls, favourite friends and voice channels, read and quick-reply to messages, answer incoming calls. It uses Discord's own mute, so in-game chat still works
- Achievements: full list for the current game plus big pop-ups on the TV (via the PlayniteAchievements add-on)
- Audio: switch between TV and headset, turn the game down without turning your mates down
- Lights / System: Home Assistant scenes, PC temps and storage, restart/shut down

A single tap of the Xbox button flips between the game and Playnite, which is the bit I was missing most.

It installs as a Playnite add-on, and there's a settings page in Add-ons so there are no config files to edit. Works with PlayStation/Switch pads through Steam Input or DS4Windows too (the Guide shows the right buttons).

Full disclosure, I built it with a lot of help from Claude (AI). I've been using it every day on my own setup, but it's new, so bug reports are very welcome. There's a roadmap on GitHub too (clip recording, native PS5 controller support, Quick Resume), so give a 👍 to anything you'd actually use.

Any way to fix this? The other day I uninstalled the old launcher and installed the one from here:

Question/Support Is there a Playnite theme with realistic 3D game cases like this?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a Playnite theme that displays games as realistic 3D physical game cases, rather than traditional flat cover art.

Ideally, I'd love something with:

  • Realistic 3D game boxes and cartridges.
  • Animations when selecting or browsing games.
  • A carousel or virtual shelf displaying my collection.
  • A console-like interface with controller support.

Basically, I want my digital game library to feel like a real physical collection.

Does anyone know of a Playnite theme or extension that offers something similar?

I'm also open to other PC launchers or frontends with this kind of interface.

Thanks!

Question/Support Legendary (Epic) extension automatically closes download popup when clicking install

When I click the "Install" button for any Epic Games store game using the Legendary integration extension in Playnite, the download/install popup appears briefly for a split second and then automatically closes immediately without starting the download. Has anyone encountered this issue or knows how to fix/reset the Legendary extension authentication/download handler? Any help would be appreciated!
