Phishing scam campaign warning

There's been now multiple reports from people receiving an email offering paid promotion for Playnite. This is a scam/phishing attempt, not a legitimate offer for sponsorship!

I'm not running any sponsorship campaign and I have not authorized any 3rd party to run any either. Playnite also doesn't have any PR person and there's nobody but me authorized to "officially represent" the project.

Similar can be said for any 3rd party re-distribution of Playnite itself. Do not download Playnite from any other place but our website at https://playnite.link or our GitHub page at https://github.com/JosefNemec/Playnite/releases

Showcase X-Nite: An Xbox-Inspired Playnite Experience — Profiles, Home Screen & Xbox Guide

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Playnite community!

Following my first post introducing X-Nite, I've put together a more detailed video showing how some of its main features work together in everyday use.

This first part focuses on personalization and navigation: Profiles, Home Screen and the Xbox Guide.

The idea is to walk through the experience, from creating a profile to organizing your home screen and accessing the guide's quick controls.

Here's what you'll find in this video:

👤 Profiles & Personalization — 00:00

Create local profiles and personalize names, avatars, accent colors and backgrounds. I also demonstrate importing and cropping images directly within the interface.

Each profile can keep its own favorites, pinned games and custom game groups.

🏠 Home Screen — 02:53

A closer look at organizing your home screen: pinning and unpinning games, rearranging them, creating and editing groups, and choosing which groups appear on the dashboard.

The goal is to let each person organize their games in a way that suits them, while keeping everything accessible with a controller.

🎮 Xbox Guide — 08:30

Explore the guide and its layered panels, including recent games, library and group access, music controls, profile shortcuts and settings.

I also demonstrate rearranging the guide tabs. Music and audio controls use the optional UniPlaySong and playnite-nx-audio-switcher integrations.

X-Nite is still in development, and there isn't a public download yet. I'm continuing to refine navigation, performance and compatibility with different setups.

The next part will focus on the games: the game library, collection browsing and achievements.

I'd love to hear what you think:

  • Does organizing profiles and the home screen feel intuitive?
  • Do the guide's shortcuts cover what you'd use during a gaming session?
  • Is there any step that could be simpler when using only a controller?

For anyone discovering the project: X-Nite combines a customized theme with the X-Nite Profile System extension. It builds on DashX – XBOX Experience by saVantCZ, who deserves credit for the original theme.

Want to explore more?

Thanks for following the project! If you're commenting on a specific detail, including a timestamp really helps.

Addon release I made an Xbox-style guide for Playnite fullscreen: Discord, achievements, game switching, all from the controller (free, open source)

I've been running my PC as a console on the TV with Playnite fullscreen, and I kept hitting the same annoyances. The Xbox button doesn't really do anything useful. Alt-tabbing out of games with a controller is a pain. Achievement pop-ups are tiny from the sofa. And as soon as my brother wanted to jump on Discord for some CoD, I was back to needing a mouse.

So I built CouchKit. Double-tap the Xbox button and a guide slides in over whatever you're playing, a bit like the Xbox one:

- Home: what you're playing (with session time, HowLongToBeat and achievement progress), resume, screenshot, close game, or switch straight to another recent game
- Party: Discord calls, favourite friends and voice channels, read and quick-reply to messages, answer incoming calls. It uses Discord's own mute, so in-game chat still works
- Achievements: full list for the current game plus big pop-ups on the TV (via the PlayniteAchievements add-on)
- Audio: switch between TV and headset, turn the game down without turning your mates down
- Lights / System: Home Assistant scenes, PC temps and storage, restart/shut down

A single tap of the Xbox button flips between the game and Playnite, which is the bit I was missing most.

It installs as a Playnite add-on, and there's a settings page in Add-ons so there are no config files to edit. Works with PlayStation/Switch pads through Steam Input or DS4Windows too (the Guide shows the right buttons).

Site with video and screenshots: https://dancharlton9.github.io/CouchKit/
GitHub: https://github.com/dancharlton9/CouchKit

Full disclosure, I built it with a lot of help from Claude (AI). I've been using it every day on my own setup, but it's new, so bug reports are very welcome. There's a roadmap on GitHub too (clip recording, native PS5 controller support, Quick Resume), so give a 👍 to anything you'd actually use.

Question/Support Is there a Playnite theme with realistic 3D game cases like this?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a Playnite theme that displays games as realistic 3D physical game cases, rather than traditional flat cover art.

Ideally, I'd love something with:

  • Realistic 3D game boxes and cartridges.
  • Animations when selecting or browsing games.
  • A carousel or virtual shelf displaying my collection.
  • A console-like interface with controller support.

Basically, I want my digital game library to feel like a real physical collection.

Does anyone know of a Playnite theme or extension that offers something similar?

I'm also open to other PC launchers or frontends with this kind of interface.

Thanks!

Showcase I'm building X-Nite: an Xbox-inspired Playnite experience with profiles, a custom library and an in-game guide

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Playnite community!

I'd like to share X-Nite, an Xbox-inspired Fullscreen experience I've been working on for Playnite. I've recorded a showcase covering the project, along with separate videos exploring its main features.

X-Nite combines a customized theme with my X-Nite Profile System extension. The theme is based on DashX – XBOX Experience by saVantCZ, and I want to give proper credit to the original project. My work builds on that foundation with local profiles, new interfaces, integrations and controller navigation.

The goal is to make browsing and launching PC games feel closer to using a console, with your own personalized home screen and a guide you can access while playing.

Current features include:

  • Local profiles and personalization: create and switch between profiles, with individual names, avatars, accent colors, backgrounds, favorites, pinned games and game groups. Custom images can be imported and cropped inside the interface.
  • A customizable home screen: pin and unpin games, rearrange them, display your own game groups, and choose between a personal background or artwork from the game you're browsing.
  • A custom game library: browse All Games, Favorites and Groups, search and sort your collection, manage group membership, and view installed games by storage drive.
  • An Xbox-style guide: access recent games, library shortcuts, notifications, profiles and power options. The guide can also open over a running game, and its tabs can be rearranged.
  • Achievements and progress: browse unlocked and locked achievements, recent unlocks, rarity information and available score data through PlayniteAchievements, with Xbox-style achievement notifications.
  • Steam friends integration: view friends, their presence, profiles and available game/achievement information through Steam Friends Fullscreen and PlayniteAchievements.
  • Music and audio controls: access playback controls through UniPlaySong, plus audio output and volume controls through playnite-nx-audio-switcher, when those integrations are installed.
  • Integrated settings and controller support: configure appearance and navigation within the Fullscreen interface, with Xbox/PlayStation button prompts and five interface languages: English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian.

The project is still in development. I'm continuing to refine performance, controller navigation and compatibility with different games and setups. There isn't a public download yet.

I'd love feedback on the showcase:

  • Which feature would you use most?
  • Is there anything in the layout or navigation that feels confusing?
  • What would you like to see improved before a public release?

Want to explore more?

Thanks for watching! I'll share more progress as development continues.

Question/Support From hibernation to Playnite full screen is about 20 seconds

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm trying to make a more console-like experience for my PC, currently, when booting it takes roughly 20 seconds for the PC to power up and for it to turn the TV on for me, which is great, but wouldn't mind shaving a few seconds off this time.

I've also managed to add in shortcuts for Discord and Steam just so I dont have to manually close Playnite to update games, buy games, join calls etc.

I do have a couple questions:

- What changes have people done to make their PC more console-like?

- Any suggestions on shaving down on the boot time?

(I done a test with the TV already on, took 19 seconds so not worried about the TV causing a delay)

EDIT: apparently my screen on test was wrong, I just redone it and when the TV is powered on it takes 15 seconds from boot to playnite. Looking further, I thought it was the motorboard/BIOS boot causing the delay, however, looks like it skips that process on hibernation boot and goes straight into Windows

So, takes 5 seconds for TV to power on, and 15 seconds for the PC to hit Playnite

Question/Support Legendary (Epic) extension automatically closes download popup when clicking install

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When I click the "Install" button for any Epic Games store game using the Legendary integration extension in Playnite, the download/install popup appears briefly for a split second and then automatically closes immediately without starting the download. Has anyone encountered this issue or knows how to fix/reset the Legendary extension authentication/download handler? Any help would be appreciated!

Question/Support Playnite crashes every time I try to edit a game

I've tried pretty much every solution in the troubleshooting page :

  • Reinstalling Playnite
  • Restoring Windows default fonts
  • Repairing .Net and then reinstalled it
  • Tried using non Microsoft fonts
  • Repairing Windows

I've restarted my computer multiple times during these solutions, but despite everything, even in Safe Mode, my Playnite crashes every time I try to edit or manually add a game that isn't from one of my integrated libraries (ex.: Steam, Epic etc). Is there a way to manually do it without the app?

Showcase Aniki Remake Theme Showcase

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi,

Been playing around quite a lot with Aniki Remake focusing on the library theme, just like to see if you like it or have any recommendations!

The switching between background images is a touch delayed, something I'm going to look into

The Discord button needs a slight change but it does open up Discord if closed or background and brings it forward!

Primarly hibernate system so power off is just an option if i ever want a full shutdown.

Showcase There's finally an add-on for dynamic UI color based on the banner/cover art and it's very cool!

A few weeks ago I posted a feature request for dynamic UI color, u/Evitonative saw the post and made Dynamic Theme Color add-on(here's the GitHub page link and it's fully compatible with default and Harmony theme). It has various styling options, and after the 1.0 release, they even added separate saturation and lightness slider based on my feedback.

Check it out.

Addon release Dynamic Path Switcher

Thumbnail
github.com
3 Upvotes

Hai, this is my first simple addon.

I have pc and ROGXAX, all my games is stored in NAS (rom). My ROGXAX also shared the same path from my PC.
But sometime when dealing gaming outside or outstation preferred to have the game data locally. So here the solution. Stored rom on external SSD (Using for the emulation game).

About

Playnite addon for add new path rom/game inside full screen theme (supported on full screen theme that had extension enable) Example when your game is on NAS (dont have wifi or away from accessing the NAS) and want to locally access the game on your internal storage or external ssd (tested with ROG XAX) without going to desktop mode you simply click the extension and choose the new path it will create the new rom/game path. On full screen theme before play, it will showed 2 path existing and the new one. Enjoy
