When People Get Offended on Behalf of Others

OK so I obviously need to be very careful with how I word this post because I know the rules are strict regarding offensive topics.

To explain my pet peeve ---- recently at work, I made an offensive joke aimed at a certain group of people, a member of said group who's name is Muhammad, says to me afterwards "don't worry, I didn't find your joke offensive, it was kinda funny" , BUT my manager who is named Kieran and is not a member of Muhammad's group of people let's just say , found it extremely offensive and made an official report about me, I won't be fired for it but it is on employee record because according to Kieran " Your joke was so offensive and inappropriate, it's upsetting, I don't care that Muhammad found it funny, maybe someone else may have taken offense, we can't take that chance here"

For context ---- Muhammad is the ONLY member of his group of people in our team sooo if he is happy with a joke aimed at his group then seriously, Muhammad should have the authority to say it's ok, like he's basically a representative of his group since he's the only one in the team.

Also --- I would go as far to say that Kieran "standing up for Muhammads group" is really just extremely offensive in itself, because it's like Kieran is implying that he doesn't respect Muhammads authority or ability to speak for himself or speak for his group.

More context --------------- I am of course referring to how Muhammad is a huge fan of Celtic Football club here in Scotland , while the rest of the team (excluding myself, I do not watch football except when Scotland is playing) , support the rival team - Rangers Football Club ( we just call them Celtic and Rangers usually) but yeah any Celtic fans reading this, I am extremely sorry for joking that your team isn't very good, because obviously that was the joke here

More context ------- I absolutely hated the job & this was a major contributing factor as to why I decided to quit & I now have a different job , in a different company.

More context ----- Random fun fact about my beautiful country that's in my profile flag, 1 out of every 45 people is Muslim & 1 in 2 people here is atheist. Just saying because Muhammad said how some of his Celtic friends often attend the local Mosque together but I'm not sure if that info is relevant to this post.
