Discussion Nida Yasir Wasn't Wrong After All

Just to be clear, I'm absolutely not against tipping. In fact, I genuinely believe we should tip people for their hard work, and I personally do so almost every time, whether it's a food delivery rider or a ride-hailing service driver (I'd say 99% of the time, I pay extra). I'm not saying we shouldn't tip; I'm simply saying that there's a difference between giving someone a tip out of appreciation and being made to feel obligated to do so

A few months ago, Nida Yasir made a comment during her morning show about Foodpanda riders and how they sometimes don't return change, seemingly expecting customers to let them keep it as a tip. She received a lot of criticism for saying that, and many people disagreed with her.

I want to share my own experience because, honestly, I've started to understand where she was coming from.

Whenever a delivery rider comes to my house, whether they're delivering food or bringing a parcel, I generally try to give them a tip. I've always felt that these people work hard, often in difficult conditions, and a little extra money from my side might make their day a little better.

A few months ago, when my stomach issues weren't as bad as they are now, I used to order food from outside almost daily, mostly from XYZ Cafe. It was one of the few decent options available in my area late at night.

Eventually, I started seeing the same riders repeatedly. They became familiar with me, and I became familiar with them. Since I used to tip them regularly, I guess some of them started expecting it.

Sometimes, my orders were paid for online, and sometimes I paid in cash. Even when I didn't have change at home, I'd try to arrange some money from someone else because I genuinely wanted to give the rider something extra.

But over time, I started noticing something that made me uncomfortable.

For example, imagine your order costs Rs. 850 and you give the rider Rs. 1,000. Instead of returning the Rs. 150, the rider simply keeps the entire amount without asking you anything.

Now, if I willingly tell someone to keep the change, that's one thing. But shouldn't the decision be mine?

There were occasions when I didn't particularly feel like tipping, especially after experiencing this behaviour repeatedly. So I'd ask for my change, and sometimes the response would be, "Bhai, bilkul change nahi hai."

I understand that delivery riders might genuinely not have change sometimes. I'm not denying that. But when someone says they have absolutely no change, even though they're handling multiple deliveries and parcels, it does make you wonder whether they're being honest.

One incident that particularly stuck with me involved a rider who had delivered to my house several times before. I had tipped him on previous occasions, so we were already familiar with each other.

One day, he told me that someone had snatched his money.

I asked him, "Snatching hui? Aur tumhara phone nahi liya? Sirf paise le gaye?"

He said that they hadn't taken his phone.

I don't know what actually happened, and I'm not claiming that he was lying. But I remember feeling a little suspicious, especially because I had already tipped him multiple times before.

Then there's another side to this.

I do a lot of online shopping, so riders from XYZ Courier Company frequently come to my house with parcels. I generally try to tip them as well.

On one occasion, a rider handed me my parcel, and when I started counting the money, he stood right in front of me, almost as if he was waiting for me to hand him something.

And here's another incident.

A few months ago, a rider from XYZ Courier Company came to deliver a parcel. I had actually intended to tip him, but when I asked about the change, he immediately said that he didn't have any.

I told him that I didn't have change either. After a little while, I said, "Bhai, aap dekh lein, shayad aapke paas ho."

Then I told him to wait while I went inside to get some money.

Without saying anything further, he took out his own wallet and returned the change to me.

And guess what? I didn't give him a single rupee as a tip.

I had initially intended to tip him, but the way he handled the situation completely changed my mind. Had he simply returned my change and let me decide whether I wanted to tip him, I probably would have given him something.

Now, coming to what happened today.

For the first time in several months, I ordered food late at night. The order cost Rs. 700, and I paid the rider with a Rs. 1,000 note.

He told me he didn't have change.

I told him that I didn't have change either, so I suggested that he transfer the remaining Rs. 300 to my bank account.

He said he didn't have an Easypaisa account.

I suggested that he could use another option, but he kept saying that he couldn't do it. Eventually, I told him that if he couldn't return the money, he could take the order back.

At that point, I asked whether he could transfer the money to my bank account instead. He agreed, so I gave him my bank details, and he transferred the Rs. 300.

I took my food and went back to my room.

Then, a thought crossed my mind.

Wait a minute. Didn't he just tell me that he didn't have an Easypaisa account or any way to transfer the money? So how did he manage to transfer it to my bank account?

Now, to be fair, maybe I misunderstood him. Maybe he didn't have money in his account, or perhaps there was some other explanation. I'm not claiming that he was trying to cheat me. It's entirely possible that I'm overthinking the situation.

And the thing is, I don't want to stop tipping people. I know how difficult delivery work can be, and I genuinely believe that people who work hard deserve respect and kindness.

I've even had riders directly ask me for a little something extra, saying things like, "Bhai, thori bohat mohabbat kar dein."

I understand that they might be struggling financially, and I don't want to sound insensitive to their circumstances. But sometimes, even when you have the intention of helping someone, the way they ask for it makes you uncomfortable.

The point I'm trying to make is simple: there's a difference between appreciating a tip and expecting one as if it's your right.

If I give you Rs. 200 extra, that's my choice. If I decide not to give you anything, that should also be my choice. And if I give you Rs. 1,000 for an Rs. 700 order, I should receive my Rs. 300 back unless I explicitly tell you to keep it.

I'm not saying all delivery riders behave this way. I've met plenty of decent riders, and I know many of them are honest, hardworking people who deserve far more respect than they receive.

Discussion It took roughly 200k students marching to topple Ayub Khan in 5 months

The greatest sin of Zia was seeing how students toppled Ayub Khan and then Zia shut down the students forever.

It was roughly 120k in West Pakistan and 70k in East Pakistan - These figures are for higher education students.

High school students was slightly over a million, but joined a little later.

Rawalpindi on November 7, 1968 was the collision point, police opened fire on students who were protesting again high fees and one student was killed by police, Abdul Hamid.

Bangladesh in 2024 was 200k

Sri Lanka 2022 was 50k

Financial got tired of olx clutter so I made an extension to kill it

olx pakistan has become unusable with all the featured spam, delivery junk, and banner ads.

instead of complaining about it I just wrote a tiny chrome extension that wipes all of it out. added toggles for featured and delivery ads in the popup so you can turn them off whenever. themed it in the old dark blue UI because the current site looks terrible.

not putting it on the store because google wants 5 bucks for a dev fee. if you want to use it or check out the code it’s open source on github:

https://github.com/AimVainx/OLX-Blocked

installing it: download zip -> extract it -> go to chrome://extensions/ -> turn on developer mode -> click load unpacked -> select the folder.

done. now you block them.

Ask Pakistan Pakistani life in mind... What do u regret not doing in your 20s?

I've seen these kinda posts alot in general subreddits with alot of members and since im 23 rn, I'm really interested in the answers to know and recognize if there's a pattern of things I'm doing wrong... But alot of the answers are really specific to life in the west where there's previlege in doing alot of the stuff not possible here... And where somethings that are normalized aren't commonplace here...

So i wanted to ask all the late 20s and 30s or older ppl to add what they really think about often in their current life as a regret... I would really like to know to try to better myself :)

Discussion Unpopular opinion: hard work is overrated.

I've seen people work 12 hours a day and barely move forward, while others work 4 focused hours and achieve more.

Effort matters, but choosing the right direction, having leverage, and knowing when to quit matter just as much.

Sometimes working harder is just a way to avoid admitting that your strategy isn't working.

What do you think? Is hard work really the key to success, or is that what we've been taught to believe?

Discussion What Is Wrong With Some Pakistani Mothers? Why Do They Blame Their Daughters Instead of Protecting Them?

I honestly don't understand what has gone so wrong with Pakistani culture and our collective mindset. Sometimes, it genuinely feels like people have completely lost the ability to think rationally when it comes to issues like harassment, sexual abuse, and the so-called "izzat" of a family.

Over time, through various discussions and personal accounts shared online, I've come across a disturbing pattern in the experiences of Pakistani women. Many women have spoken about facing harassment from people they knew, including cousins, older relatives, domestic workers, or other people within their surroundings.

What disturbed me even more was learning how some of their mothers reacted when they were told about what had happened.

In several accounts I've come across, the mothers' reactions were deeply upsetting. Instead of supporting their daughters, they reportedly turned the situation into an issue of their daughters' "izzat." The girls were made to feel as though they had somehow brought shame upon their families, while the people who had actually harassed them were not held accountable in the same way.

And I genuinely cannot understand this logic.

If one person does something wrong to another person, why does the shame fall on the victim instead of the person who committed the wrongdoing?

Why is the daughter's reputation treated as the problem, rather than the behaviour of the person who harassed her?

I'm not saying that a victim should be forced to publicise what happened to them or announce it to the entire world. Absolutely not. Every person deserves privacy, and it's their decision how much they want to share.

But surely, as a parent, you can at least stand beside your daughter. You can tell her that what happened was wrong, that the person who did it is responsible for their actions, and that she has done nothing to deserve this treatment.

And if taking legal or other formal action isn't immediately possible, you can still listen to her, believe her, protect her, and find ways to ensure that the person responsible doesn't get another opportunity to harm her.

Why is even that so difficult for some parents?

What makes this even worse is that, in some of the accounts I've come across, mothers reportedly scolded their daughters, told them to remain quiet, or expected them to tolerate the situation. Meanwhile, the person causing the problem was not necessarily removed from the environment, and no meaningful solution was offered.

Just think about what that does to a girl.

First, someone violates her boundaries and makes her feel unsafe. Then, when she gathers the courage to tell the person she should be able to trust most, she is met with blame, shame, silence, or anger.

What is she supposed to learn from that experience?

That she shouldn't have told anyone?

That protecting the family's reputation matters more than protecting her?

That if someone harasses her again, she should simply suffer in silence?

And then we wonder why so many people are afraid to speak up about harassment and abuse.

We cannot keep telling girls to speak up while simultaneously teaching them that speaking up will make their own lives worse.

A mother should be someone her daughter can approach without being terrified of the reaction. A parent should be someone a child can tell almost anything to, without immediately fearing judgment, punishment, or humiliation.

I understand that Pakistani mothers may themselves have grown up in environments where family reputation, social pressure, and fear of gossip were deeply ingrained. Some may genuinely believe that keeping quiet is the safest way to protect their daughters from further harm.

But understanding where this mindset comes from doesn't mean we should accept it.

Protecting your daughter's reputation by silencing her is not the same as protecting your daughter.

Keeping an incident secret while leaving the person responsible in a position to repeat the behaviour is not a solution either.

And making your daughter feel ashamed of something someone else did to her is not parenting. It's adding another layer of pain to an already painful experience.

To every parent reading this, whether you already have children or hope to have them someday, please think about the kind of parent you want to become.

Discussion Will Civil Disobedience work in Pakistan?

• Upvotes

We have no justice from the courts as they are controlled by the army, compromised judges ares installed on us that works for the army not the people which it should do. As per last election in Feb 2024 the elections were massively rigged by making 17 NA seats the government while 2/3 majority party was made opposition not to mention how they stole their election sign few weeks before elections. We cannot protest either as in 26 NOV Islamabad massacre where so many innocent peaceful protesters were k! lled the ones that are being k! lled in Azad Kashmir at the moment, the ones that were shot now in khyber and again abductions of MPA MNA cabinet members and sitting Chief ministers who is missing now and when his lawyer submitted a petition against his abduction that lawyer was abducted too. There seems to be no other way left.

I can only think of one thing then. If we do not pay any taxes any bills everyone together like every single one of us. This regime is going to fall with in 2 months. The whole army police bureaucracy is paid by our taxes and again do not buy anything that’s related to army companies faugi foods nurpur etc etc. I think this is the most effective protest we can do and sadly the only thing we can do. But it only works if we do it together simultaneously. And again we do not have any account surplus they cannot survive. Asim muneer will crumble like a rotten egg this dictatorship is fuelled by our taxes.

No taxes > no salaries > no army no police no bureaucracy.

I’m sure there will be alot of army bots in replies ignore them. I see them all over X and other platforms if you open these accounts all they post is against PTI. Nothing else no personality just pure anti PTI.

TLDR: since we have no other options if we don’t buy anything pay no taxes it will crumble down the army dictatorship. Will it work? Or pure hopeless is the only option left.

Financial Konnect Account Dormant

• Upvotes

I've been receiving daily SMS messages from HBL (14250) saying:

"Muaziz Sarif, apka Konnect account inactivity ki wajah se Dormant ho jayega. Services jari rakhne ke liye qareebi Konnect agent se biometric verification mukammal karen."

The thing is, I use my HBL mobile banking app almost daily for transactions.

Are HBL and Konnect accounts two separate things? If I'm actively using my HBL account, why am I getting these messages?

Also, do I actually need to visit a Konnect agent for biometric verification, or can I just ignore these messages if I don't use Konnect?

Discussion What social issues do you think society needs to talk about more? (For my research assignment)

Hi everyone! I’m an art and design student working on an assignment where I need to choose a social issue and develop an interesting research question around it.
I’m looking for unusual, overlooked, controversial, or rarely discussed social issues that affect people’s everyday lives, mental well-being, relationships, identities, or the way society treats them.
It could be something you’ve personally experienced, something you’ve noticed in society, or something you think people don’t take seriously enough.

I’d especially love to hear about issues that made you think, “Why does nobody talk about this?”
Please share any issue that comes to mind, even if it sounds strange, uncomfortable, or too specific. I’m not looking for a ready-made solution — I want to discover perspectives and issues that could lead to a meaningful research question.
Thank you! ❤️

Ask Pakistan I am a girl visiting Karachi and trying to find a furnished place for a month to stay with my mother in DHA/Clifton. Few questions that need guidance with-

Which areas to avoid getting a place? I see people have mentioned a Muslim commercial.

As we would be alone it’s really important that we find a safe place.

Is Airbnb a better option?
Can’t find anything online except airbnb or booking.com but they seem really expensive.

Please advise and add any other things we should be careful about
