A very picturesque spot that I don't think is very well known by those who live outside of Orléans. The falls are a decent size and you can not only get quite close to them, there are quite a few different vantage points you can access with relative ease for different views of the falls.

I shot this last June but I didn't get around to sending the slide out for a good scan until last month. Very happy with the results. Images On Bank will be getting a copy of this to frame soon!

OC Transpo 25th Anniversary of OTrain (Line 2) today

Today, October 15, marks the 25 Anniversary of the light rail Ottawa OCTranspo OTrain, which now forms the north part of Line 2. Designed, built, and with three Talent trainsets acquired in under 2 years, for a mere $25million total, the pilot project was a huge success for Carleton students who could now live near Greenboro, or commute in from Bayview much faster than by bus. With a few years it was at capacity at peak hours, and a $2.2million investment made to convert the “bumpy” old 40 foot rails to smooth, continuous welded rail in Summer 2003. Trains ran reliably every 15 minutes and did Greenboro to Bayview in under 12 minutes.

Here is the “ribbon cutting ceremony” including David Jeanes of Transport Action Canada, Vanier Councillor Madeleine Meilleur, Mayor Bob Chiarelli, and Glebe Councillor Clive Doucet. CJOH opening video at https://youtu.be/Qdtz-YQ9bEI?si=LbX7F3vpjqbfjZaK Also a photo of the original DROs “Diesel Rail Operators” who were all veteran bus drivers, plus the planning/management team.

When incoming Mayor Larry O’Brien cancelled the 2005 LRT contract to double track and electrify the OTrain line further south and then along Strandherd Dr to Barrhaven, Councillor Doucet said it would set back LRT by a decade….he was wrong, Line 1 didn’t open until 2019. And never made it to Barrhaven.

Neighbor Repeatedly Blowing Leaves Onto My Property

My neighbor constantly blows leaves from her property onto my lawn after I have raked and cleaned my yard. We both have large maple trees on our front lawns. Within a day of completing my yard cleanup, she blows leaves from her property onto mine, and she always does it when I am not home, typically at work or after dark. Natural leaf movement between properties is expected. However, this goes beyond naturally blown leaves.

I spoke with her about the issue, and she initially denied doing so. I showed her my home security camera footage of her blowing leaves from her property onto my lawn. Despite my request that she stop, the behavior continues.

Her position is that leaves from my maple tree fall onto her property and that she is simply returning them. She also claims that leaves from her maple tree are carried down the street by the wind and not onto my property.

People tell me to blow the leaves back onto her property after she does it, but I don’t want to get into a leaf blowing war.  Others say contact by-law but I am not sure if there is a law about leaf blowing your leaves, yard waste onto neighbor’s property.

Thanks

Municipal Affairs Mayor Debate Tonight

Post image
27 Upvotes

Debate tonight on Rogers channel 22 or in person at St. John’s Church on Elgin Street. Will be repeated along with other mayoral and ward debates over the next month.

Contrary to the description, I don’t think Bob Chiarelli or Catherine McKenney are going to show up tonight.

PS. I tried to post this in the megathread, but there was no plus button.

Good place for a solo date & good mocktails downtown

• Upvotes

As the title says! Looking for a nice spot for a solo date downtown/market area tomorrow (Friday) evening. Can’t drink, so looking for a place with good mocktails, food and nice vibes. Bonus points if it’s a good place to bring a book and people watch for a few hours. Open to any ideas ☺️

Lost/Found MISSING CAT IN ORLEANS

I cannot seem to find my cat anywhere in the house, not in his usual hiding spots or anywhere. He comes out when I shake treats but not tonight. He might be stuck somewhere in the house or that he ran out the door at some point without anyone noticing. If anyone sees an orange tabby. Located near GARDENWAY DRIVE Orleans please call 343-585-7761 (he's very anxious and runs from strangers)

New speed bumps on Centrepointe Drive

Does anyone else think the new speed bumps are taller and steeper than normal? Or is it just me?

I haven't been out to measure them but they sure look and feel higher than most in the city.

Sports TIL Ottawa now has an LNAH hockey team

Whilst doing normal random nerd surfing of the internet tonight, going wherever the flow of knowledge takes me, I learned that the Manotick Mariners moved from the Northern Premier Hockey League to the LNAH as of this season.

For those who don't know, NPHL is a senior hockey league not affiliated nor sanctioned by Hockey Canada, whereas LNAH is a lower level professional league that almost always uses teams exclusively in Québec. LNAH has attracted retired NHL players before and has been referred to as one of the toughest hockey leagues in the world, with an average of 3.2 fights per game as of 2010 research by the New York Times.

They play out of the Mike O'Neil Arena in Manotick but have the ability to upscale to Steve Yzerman Arena at the Nepean Sportsplex, as required for capacity. Consider giving them some viewership if you value having an additional, grittier, non-agecap professional umbrella team in the city!

Booking City of Ottawa Venues

Has anyone made a useable tool to find available spaces to rent in the city?

If anyone has gone through this process, I know you feel my pain. How do we not have a simple, searchable page with prices, availability etc. is beyond me.

/vent: Multiple emails, forms, contacts made including filling the form on submission and getting an email asking me to fill a different form with the same information -- all from nameless staff - it's wild!

Not to mention I just got a request to confirm my booking on the 9th for a 5 year old's birthday party ---->>> Not my booking....someone else going through the same merry-go-round I guess and likely will now lose their spot. /vent_over

Anywhere I can receive allergy shots other than GP? (location specific)

Hello! I recently had my allergies tested and I'm green-lit to start immunotherapy. Its now on me to engage with my GP to begin the process, but knowing that I will need to go to her office twice a week for 3 months, I was wondering if anyone has any advise or experience in receiving the shot at a different location. My GP is far from my home and work, so i'm hoping to get the shots either near my work (little Italy/china town) or near my home (Bells Corners).

Anyone have advise on how to navigate this?

EDIT: I am aware there needs to be a doctor on staff, but hoping there may be a convenient option other than my own.

Are these private no parking signs legal?

Post image
66 Upvotes

These are on waverly, but there’s no city signs. I noticed no one is parking on the street so I’m not sure if there is in fact enforceable.

Edit: to be clear, this is on the private grass and facing the public street.

Edit again: I learned a lot from the replies about the road being private. Thanks. Interesting.

Acceptable level of lawn damage for neighbour's patio work?

This is new to me, haven't dealt with this before. We had contractors knock on our door saying they'll be using our easement to get their machinery to a neighbour's backyard. They said they'd seed & soil afterwards. They mentioned it was too wet to use floorboards to protect the grass (it had been raining).

I took photos but...is there anything else to stay on top of? I'm going to make sure they seed, but the lawn seems really torn up - far more than when a nearby neighbour had similar experience with a different company.

All they've said is "It'll be a brand new lawn come Spring." Do you just take their word for it in this case?
