Hi all,
I’m a new student here, and the worst-case scenario happened with my teeth. Right before moving, I had my bonded retainer checked and everything was fine (because I knew fixing it here would be complicated!). Unfortunately, a section of it just broke.
I saw a dentist who patched it up temporarily, but they said I need to get a completely new one made. From what I’ve checked, orthodontic care isn’t covered by the student health plans unfortunately ...
So, does anyone have any recommendations for an orthodontic clinic in the area that takes new patients ( students) , is reliable and does good work and has fair/student-friendly pricing for a retainer replacement?
Thank you so much!

I know we get the finals schedule today. Anyone knows what time?
Also, i catch a plane in december and was wondering what to do if my exams fall after that date. Is the only option to defer it?

Does anyone have experience with using Rexall alongside the student insurance? Supposedly on the Alumo website Rexall is a student care network partner and can cover up to 20% of prescriptions alongside the 80% the insurance provides but every time I go to Rexall they never know what I’m talk about and that 20% is never provided.
Have any of you guys gotten it and if so, how? I’ve shown my pay direct card and just my insurance in general but it doesn’t seem to work to get the extra coverage.

Avoid Professor Karen Borland if you are taking ESL courses at the University of Ottawa. She exhibits clear discrimination against Chinese students. In this semester’s ESL 3181 (for ESL 2381), she explicitly remarked that Chinese students are "not enthusiastic" and "do not like to answer her questions"—which raises the question: how does she even identify which students are Chinese? Furthermore, she imposes unreasonable requirements throughout her coursework and examinations. For instance, during the Fall 2024 listening exam for ESL 2181 (for ADM 1300), she forced some students to sit facing away from the front, which made the audio difficult to hear. If the intention was to prevent cheating, there are far better, widely adopted methods—such as spacing students out with empty seats between them. Additionally, in ESL 3181 (for ESL 2381), there are several presentation assignments; one student submitted their work twice, meeting all requirements, yet in the feedback for the second submission, the professor suddenly claimed it was unacceptable. She demanded a change in format and a resubmission, showing no regard for whether the student had the time or access to a computer that met her new, arbitrary specifications. Throughout this process, Karen Borland remained entirely inflexible and unsympathetic.
These ESL courses are intended to be supplementary—designed to help students navigate their core academic requirements more comfortably. However, Karen Borland’s course design runs counter to this purpose; instead of providing support, she creates obstacles, imposes excessively harsh requirements, and adds unreasonable workloads. She has effectively made a supplementary course far more difficult than the core academic subjects themselves, all while engaging in discriminatory rhetoric directed at Chinese students. I strongly advise any students planning to take ESL courses to steer clear of this professor.

if you’ve ever circled a lot for 15 min or been late because there were no spots, we want to hear about it! we’re doing a group project on parking at uottawa for one of our classes and need survey responses. it’s like 2 min, all multiple choice, anonymous
https://forms.gle/XyHwmKYK2oWRr9KT6
mostly asking about how long it takes you to find a spot and how you figure out if a lot has space. profs and staff can fill it out too. there’s an optional question at the end about your worst parking experience if you want to rant
will post results if people want them. thanks!!

salut, on fait un projet d’équipe sur le stationnement à uottawa et on a besoin de réponses. ça prend genre 2 min, c’est juste des choix multiples et c’est anonyme

merci beaucoup!!

I'm thinking about switching my major to Nursing and I was just wondering how difficult this would be. If anyone has done this in the past I would love to hear about your experiences including what year you transferred, how long the waiting process was, what your CGPA was, as well as any other relevant information you may be able to share.
Another thing is that, I know that this program is very competitive and there are limited seats, so i was just wondering if the option to switch is normally available since, on the program and eligibility criteria website it says that they weren't accepting any transfers last year.
Thank you so much!

When I have previosuly taken the FLS courses during full time study semesters, I remember it was free (no extra tuition) as it was in addition to my full time course load but if it is the only course that I take with my coop term, would that still be the case?

Just passed CRX and LMX, everyone was outside and a security guard was yelling at someone near me to be on the other side of the road… what’s up with that?

Given THREE interviews so far, I was expecting that at least one of them will give me the job offer, mind you all three of them went well, I answered questions and it was detailed, and it was also on time and perfectlydistributed, can anyone please tell what could go wrong? I guess i am just sad coz I also deferred a midterm to prepare for one of them:(
Edit: Biology major here
