Text FM Customer Service

I'm new to the community, but wanted to share a recent positive experience I had with FM as they seem to be rare in this sub.

I got an XRC a few weeks ago, and one of the sensors on my front footpad stopped working at about 150 miles. I called FM, and they opened a case for me. I tried their suggestions to get the footpad working, which didn't help, then sent a couple pictures and videos they asked for to illustrate the issue and prove it wasn't a problem with the footpad's connector. Within the same day, they ordered me a new footpad, and it shipped the following day.

I was really pleased with how quickly they replaced the footpad. Just hope I don't get the same issue again anytime soon.

I've read some bad stories about their customer service, but wanted to share my own positive one.

Float on!

Text UPDATE: 98-mile GT-S dead on charger, FM's $832 quote, the stonewall escalation, and why I’m officially done with Future Motion

Following up on my post from last month about my GT-S that abruptly died after sitting on the factory charger at ~30% with 98 miles on the odometer (original post: [ https://www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/comments/1wij1vw/gts_completely_dead_after_sitting_on_charger/ ]).

I went into this process with high hopes. As a longtime rider who has purchased four Onewheels over the years, I genuinely wanted this to be a story where Future Motion stepped up, did the right thing, and gave me reason to come on here and sing their praises.

Instead, it became one of the most maddening customer service brick walls I have ever run into. I am reluctantly joining the ranks of exhausted, loyal supporters who can no longer defend or support this company.

Here is the full breakdown of how it unfolded.

1. The Diagnosis and the $832 Quote

I boxed the board and sent it in under RMA. The Ride Health Report came back with an ultra-vague diagnosis: the battery module was "unresponsive" and needed complete replacement.

The invoice: $832.76 (parts, labor, and return shipping). For a flagship board with 98 miles.

2. The Escalation: Begging for Goodwill and Getting Stonewalled

I replied immediately requesting escalation to leadership. I laid out the facts plainly:

Meticulous Care: I know how to care for lithium packs. I own three XRs that are still running strong on their original factory battery packs after 5+ years because they are properly stored and maintained. This GT-S lived indoors, in climate-controlled conditions, never saw water, and had 98 gentle miles.

Sudden Electrical Fault vs. Wear: The board had full, like-new range right before this happened. It did not degrade over cycles, it died while plugged into the factory charger. That points directly to a catastrophic BMS or internal circuit failure, not battery wear.

Segmented Warranty Absurdity: While the battery module has a 1-year calendar window, the board itself carries a 2-year warranty. My GT-S was comfortably inside the 2-year window at 20 months old.

A Technical Support Manager responded by quoting basic battery storage advice (storing at 40-50%, wiping moisture, etc.) and stated the board was out of warranty by age. They offered four choices: 1.) pay $832.76, 2.) pay $132.76 to have the broken board shipped back, 3.) buy parts to fix it myself, or 4.) let them recycle it.

I pushed back again. I explained that generic storage tips didn't apply to a meticulously cared-for board with no signs of moisture or neglect. I asked if they could meet me halfway and waive the labor/shipping fees or discount the replacement module as a gesture of goodwill to a 4-board customer.

The request was kicked up again, only to receive a completely flat, cold denial from support leadership: “There are no discounts or accommodations that can be made.”

Zero flexibility. Zero recognition of brand loyalty. Pay nearly a third of the board’s price for an internal component failure at 98 miles, or pay a ransom to get your broken board returned.

(Side note: The only reason I didn't eat the entire $832 loss was because I filed a claim through the Extended Warranty Protection on the credit card I used to purchase the board. FM didn't give an inch.)

3. The Salt in the Wound: The Missing Charge Plug

I paid the invoice so the board would be repaired and returned. When it arrived at my door, the blue charge-port plug was missing.

I know with 100% certainty that the plug was on the board when I packed it. I removed the fender and accessories beforehand and verified my storage area. It was not left behind. It clearly worked loose in shipping or was misplaced during intake.

I sent a quick note expecting them to simply drop a 50-cent piece of plastic in an envelope. Instead, support pulled up an intake photo of the board sitting on their service stand without the plug and told me: "We are sorry to hear if you lost your charger plug, but you can purchase a new one from Onewheel.com here."

After spending $832 to replace a battery on a 98-mile flagship board, they chose to nickel-and-dime and argue over responsibility for a $3 piece of molded plastic. That interaction tells you everything you need to know about how Future Motion views customer loyalty once they have your money.

What I’m Doing Going Forward

I wanted to believe in FM. I wanted to believe that if you invest thousands of dollars into their flagship products and treat them with care, they will stand behind their hardware when an obvious premature failure happens. They don't.

From here on out, I will never send another board back to Future Motion under any circumstance. If and when any of my boards have issues down the road, whether it's the GT-S or one of my three XRs, they will be converted with VESC hardware.

If you own an S-Series, be aware: the 1-year calendar cutoff on that battery module is an absolute brick wall. It does not matter if your board has 90 miles, looks brand new, or suffered a sudden BMS failure on the factory charger. You will be on your own.

Text Update: 25 km/h onewheel for France/EU – survey results so far + manufacturer answers

Hi everyone,

A quick update on my project: a onewheel limited to 25 km/h by the manufacturer, so it can be ridden legally (and insured) on public roads in France.

Survey results so far (45 answers in 8 days)

- Countries: France 28, Germany 4, Netherlands 3, Belgium 2, Switzerland 2, UK 2, plus Spain, Sweden and Slovakia.

- When would you buy: within 6 months 18, within 1 year 9, later 8, not sure 10. So 60% would buy within a year.

- Brands (several choices possible): Future Motion 31, FloatWheel 18, Fungineers 9, Gosmilo 5.

- Top boards: Pint X, XR Classic and Atom (13 each), Pint S and GT (9 each), X7 Long Range (8).

Manufacturers

I sent these results to 4 manufacturers:

- Fungineers: the boss finds the idea interesting. I'm waiting for more info. No commitment yet.

- Gosmilo: positive first answer. They are discussing it with their team.

- Future Motion: no for now (same firmware on all boards), but they passed the idea to their leadership.

- FloatWheel: no answer yet.

Software side

I also talked with the Refloat developer. Speed-based pushback and haptic alert already exist in Refloat. A "Speed Limit" version would mainly lock these settings, so the user can't change them. It's a small change, but it must be done carefully and tested on a real board.

The survey stays open 1 more week (until October 23)

More answers = a stronger case for manufacturers. Please share it with riders in Europe (Facebook groups, Discord, friends):

I will post the final results here. Thanks to everyone who voted and commented!

I’ve tried pretty much everything to fix my GT whether it be hub bolts, bearings, or the stator I’ve checked pretty much everything.

I was wondering if I should try and ship it somewhere and get it checked out/fixed. I’m in middle of nowhere Wichita Ks if anyone is curious.

Another question I had is if there is any scrap valve if my board is unfixable and what that number could be if it exists.

Any help is much appreciated.

Text More XR issues

New issue with XR. was working fine, Replaced bumpers.. Left it on the charger overnight, my mistake (have done it before with no issues) 800miles

  1. In the morning, turn it on and in a few min tell me "battery low at 1%, charge immediately"
  2. put on the charger again, says battery is at 100%, when i pull it off and turn it on.. within a few seconds says battery at 1%. Checked all the wiring connectors.. its fine
  3. Leave on charger for 30hrs, Next day it will not turn on at all.. lights up for a sec, then turns off

HW4208/ FW gemini 4165

Is my BMS bad?

Are the batteries out of balance? Since i am running later firmware.. is there a way to test?
