Doesn't matter. They've already got paid.

And they'd like to get paid again, so they try to do a good job

Chaos takes over the second the doors finally open?

55

u/Gotu_Jayle 1d ago

Yes. People sit down, thousands of adjustments to the chairs occur over the course of the event, and then the perfect lines are gone.

45

u/SaltyLonghorn 1d ago

If you let the people adjust the chairs naturally over a week it ends in the Fibonacci sequence.

I read about this in the paper

Bot check, 24 days old, activated 5 days ago, "two-parter feminine-sounding" username

13

u/BrennusSokol 1d ago

Yep, and it has LLM-flavored text style

I think it's "dry akallia"

1

u/Pomodorosan 1d ago

Yeah not a great example, I was trying to fit the name in a format that I see everywhere (examples from another thread: Fantastic_Emilly, Bright_Babey, PetalSweett, Blossom-Gift, Fantastic-Heaven, StarWhispeerr)

Like "Drya kallia", just random structures that sound like names

2

u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 1d ago

I don't think this one is a bot. Agreed, watch for that kind of name, but this one doesn't fit that format at all

1

u/NukeAllTheThings 1d ago

Way off on the username.

Dry is not exactly feminine if you catch my drift.

Not saying you're wrong about it being a bot though.

Yea it's the WWE.

Having run rooms this size at DragonCon absolutely

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 1d ago

Most people aren't as observant as you give them credit for

76

u/DontMemeAtMe 1d ago

They don't have to consciously notice it to perceive the sense of order and cleanliness subconsciously.

3

u/dirtybyrd32 1d ago

Most average everyday people are barely aware they have a subconscious let alone know what it does. So give that guy a break, he probably has no clue our emotional state is highly dependent on factors outside of our conscious mind. Like a dirty room can give you anxiety and you not even be aware that’s the cause.

14

u/Top-Strawberry4466 1d ago

It’s for the event organizers, not the attendees.

1

u/damxam1337 13h ago

All that matters is the person writing the check. More often than not they are observant of these things. Or at least the subconscious effects of "good work ethic" end up getting repeat contracts.

u/Pixelbuttzz 1d ago

By who, by the time there's actually more than a couple people in this room no one is looking at the line of the chairs they are looking at where people are sitting and where they should sit and the chairs have already started to move

-1

u/ATXBeermaker 1d ago

You really think people care whether the chairs are perfectly aligned? Or even really notice?

41

u/cuteintern 1d ago

Yeah, but the baseline is set - the chairs and room are organized and spaced properly. Of course they're going to get moved around, but at least it's a clean start.

24

u/Dramatic_Suit_6783 1d ago

I worked in events for 15 years and all I gotta say is if you look closely you can see a hook on the end chair. All these banquet chairs stack beautifully and have the ability to hook together in rows to make a perfect line.

We usually didn't hook them but it doesn't take snapping a masons line to eye it and then the trick is on the aisles, the inside chair column, where the row aisle is, put a chair there. All your rows are spaced perfectly

7

u/cogginsmatt 1d ago

I think the chairs are ganged together (as they should be) so they will probably hold most of the form

3

u/kitsunewarlock 1d ago

While there's some truth, you'd be surprised how accurate most people are at putting stuff back. Like, sure, it only takes a few and there will be a few given the audience size, but it's uplifting to know that overall most humans are not inconsiderate assholes.

43

u/HaroldBloominOnion 1d ago

You sound like you don't make your bed in the morning.

70

u/the-final-frontiers 1d ago

if a bed doesn't get made in the forest, does anyone care.

-20

u/HaroldBloominOnion 1d ago

...Yes? Whoever's bed it is. And whoever they sleep in the bed with.

23

u/zandariii 1d ago

As a chronic bed unmaker, who cares? I'll clean and fold my clothes, I'll wipe down counters after everything. But the bed? Nah. It'll get tossed all around the second I get in, and making it doesn't make it anymore comfortable. Also, who's gonna judge me for it? Certainly not I, and if anyone but my wife and I makes into our bedroom, I don't think that a slightly messy bed is gonna make them think any worse of me or her

8

u/xChopsx1989x 1d ago

I once read that making your bed in the morning fosters a better environment for for bacteria, mite, etc.

I have no idea if that's true, but I'm going to continue to banner that justification.

5

u/Shoelace1200 1d ago

It makes sense. You're leaving a layer of trapped air between the duvet and the bed sheet

6

u/zandariii 1d ago

I heard the same. Felt validated in never putting together my bed

6

u/Threedawg 1d ago

Mythbusters did this decades ago.

There is no difference lol

2

u/BeefyIrishman 1d ago

making it doesn't make it anymore comfortable.

I am going to have to hard disagree there, but I do realize that I may be in the minority here (and that this may be entirely related to my AuDHD). I find a bed with neat sheets and everything well aligned to be far more comfortable than one where the sheets and comforter/ duvet are all jostled and misaligned with one another. I am not going to bother with decorative pillows, or folded blankets at the foot of the bed, or anything pointless like that, but taking the 20-30 seconds to pull everything into alignment and leaving it fairly neat makes it so much nicer and more comfortable for me when I go to bed that evening.

0

u/HaroldBloominOnion 1d ago

For the same reason that these guys are getting paid to make sure all of these chairs are aligned; some people care about things looking or being right, even if no one else is going to see it.

2

u/Shoelace1200 1d ago

But everyone who walks into this room is going to see these neatly arranged chairs

1

u/HaroldBloominOnion 1d ago

And I am going to walk into my bedroom at night and see a made bed? Like above, some people care about things looking or being right, even if no one else is going to see it.

13

u/TetraDax 1d ago

..you actually should not do that. I needs to air out. You lose about a liter of sweat overnight, and your beds warms up. Warm and moist is like the perfect breeding ground for mites. It's unhygienic to make your bed immediately in the morning.

3

u/hypo-osmotic 1d ago

That's something that I haven't considered before. I assume that the ideal solution isn't to leave your bedding all clumped up but rather remove it from the bed and hang it up?

9

u/TetraDax 1d ago

That would be ideal, yes, but generally leaving it clumped is already enough, provided you change your sheets regularily. It's the moisture in the matress and bed sheet that's the main issue, and than can't escape with the bed fully made.

0

u/End3rWi99in 1d ago

Please allow me propose this revolutionary idea. How about you make your bed AND change your sheets regularly?

0

u/TetraDax 1d ago

..no, that is again creating the same problem mentioned previously.

1

u/End3rWi99in 18h ago

If you wash your sheets frequently enough there is no problem. This is just an excuse not to make your bed lol

14

u/deSuspect 1d ago

Why the fuck would I waste my time to do it? Absolutely pointless activity.

1

u/its_not_you_its_ye 1d ago

Seems like this device is completely unnecessary if they just used the metal hooks at the sides to link them together. Then your wouldn’t have to worry about that either!

1

u/dego_frank 1d ago

Whoosh

1

u/Rhuarc33 1d ago

Yup. Although I doubt it lasts even a full minute

1

u/davisty69 1d ago

Agreed, seems like a huge waste of time that is required by some weird type A person

1

u/Movie-Independent 1d ago

It’s ok, I’ve got to reset the room the next morning anyway!

-31

u/SockMonkeyLove 1d ago

I thought the same thing. Like any one person ho drags there ass into that hall is going to stop and notice the perfect alignment of the seats.

34

u/EYNLLIB 1d ago

They won't notice the perfect alignment but they'll sure as hell notice if they walked in to a room for of sloppily arranged chairs

5

u/MyAskRedditAcct 1d ago

Having lived through too many of these types of conferences - the first thing anyone is thinking is "oh great, I wanted to be wedged between 2 grown adults in a 22in chair that is touching the chair next to me. I wanted to breathe in the air they just breathed out."

God I hate these things.

1

u/bingle-cowabungle 1d ago

There's a reasonable middleground between noticeably sloppy chairs and chairs so tightly aligned that you need to pay a couple of bozos hours to sit there and align them with special custom tools, yeah?
