South Carolina Ex-fiancé of Rep. Nancy Mace and 2 others charged with sex crimes she described in House speech

After the arrests, Mace released a statement detailing the 25 bills she says will protect victims of sexual assault, harassment or discrimination, including in retaliatory defamation and libel lawsuits that may result from allegations they bring to light.
The Republican, who is leaving the House this term after losing her bid to be South Carolina governor, introduced a proposal this week to require that anyone who brings such a case and loses must pay attorney fees for the defendant.
Maybe, just maybe, some small measure of good can come from this. She also voted to release all the Trump/Epstein files.

Part of what's going on here may be the tendency of people on the conservative end of the spectrum to only really feel empathy over issues that have personally affected them. And this was nearly as personal as it gets.

Also they only grow a spine when they lose their election and have nothing to lose.

This is not fair. Mace has been very consistently advocating to protect victims of sexual assault her entire time in office. She also been very consistently going after her ex in particular her entire time in office. She didn’t “suddenly grow a spine” after loosing her election, she lost her election because she has been doing this the entire time….including pushing to release the Epstein files. She’s got on a lot of people’s bad sides, lost the support of the GOP, and convinced a lot of people that she’s crazy and that’s why she lost her election.

u/QuarkTheLatinumLord- 5h ago
Mace has been very consistently advocating to protect victims of sexual assault
This is false. It is a rewriting of Mace's story. She actively and unapologetically supports a self-professed sexual assaulter and adjudicated rapist as president.
Her "fight" for victims is political opportunism not moral clarity. Don't let her fool you.
77
u/fuck_all_you_too 6h ago
You dont get that high in the GOP without supporting the people who are participating in the exact thing she has supposedly been advocating to prevent this entire time.
Really sounds like "the only good abortion is my abortion" nonsense like usual. "Im working with pedophiles to stop pedophiles!"

Mace voted for the sexual assault of Trans women. As in, she actively cheered on and supported V-coding, the explicitly state sponsored rape of trans women in prisons.
Get the fuck out of here with your hagiography.

u/BoilerMaker11 8h ago
It’s so personal that when you ask her how she can support a sexual abuser (Trump), given how much she wants to protect women, she’ll say you’re rape shaming her. Even though that’s not how that works.

Basically her words when George Stephanopoulos asked her how she can support trump. Called him a bully and refused to answer his question.

Oh, it’s not just George Stephanopoulos. For several years, now, if you ask her how she supports Trump despite being an advocate for sexual assault victims, she’ll say you’re rape shaming her. It’s her fallback to any criticism of her Trump support; not just a one off remark she’s made

Yeah let's not let awful people doing the right thing be the enemy of progress. She shouldn't be in government but at least she's not a pedophile and rapist protector.
She just votes for the things they want.
It's entirely different. She thinks so, anyway.

Can Congress actually change Federal court rules ? Could such a law require states to reverse the "American rule" where each party pays their own costs ?
It's pretty rich that Mace proposes defamation protections in civil court when she took advantage of a defamation protection that is available only to 538 people at a time.

u/yun-harla 6h ago
Yes — the American rule is just a default principle. Statutes commonly have fee-shifting provisions. (So do contracts.)

They're all equally shitty people but Boebert is dumb on a scale the others can't match. She's dumb even by Republican standards. It took her 3 tries to pass her GED test and even then it's likely she had someone else do it for her when she ran for office. Girl's got no brains at all.

Am I reading this article wrong? It seems like she discovered the crimes and exposed them, leading to the arrests. While there may be valid criticisms of he voting records or other behaviors, it seems like she did the right thing here and should get credit for that, regardless of her party affiliations. A lot of people would have helped cover up behavior by their finance.
The comments here make it sound like she was somehow involved or guilty by association.

u/duffmcgruff528 7h ago
Prior to her speaking on the house floor, it was not uncommon for Nancy and Patrick’s romance to play out in open spaces. It ranged from innocent incidents like the linked article below to rumors of sex parties Nancy was involved in. The latter was always rumors spoken about in the same circles that also talked about things like Lindsey Granham’s “ladybugs” if you know that story.
Because of these rumors there were a subset of people who believe Nancy knew about these sex acts the 3 committed and may have also partook in some. The people perceived Nancy’s floor speach as her not trying to save the victims but her trying to get back at her ex after they broke up.
But again these are all rumors.

Thank you for this. I was trying to remember for a while there was some rumors about her involvement and it gain some minor credence because she preemptively made an announcement defending herself before it came out.
I'm guessing they couldn't verify the rumors and it wasn't mentioned again (as far as I could tell)
15
u/duffmcgruff528 3h ago
Pre floor speech they were also suing each other back and forth over things like investment properties. Clearly there was bad blood all over the place after the break up.
But for what it’s worth Nancy has only made those claims in that floor speech where she was protected from libel. The fact that she won’t state them in another venue without that protection has fueled the fire that none of this was justice for the victims.

These people need to do better. Don’t praise monsters for eating vegetarian sometimes.
7
u/peon2 3h ago
You don't even have to give her credit, just don't pretend she's guilty by association when she clearly isn't.
If a murderer intervenes and prevents a robbery, you don't need to forgive them for the murder...but you also don't have to go online and act like they were the one committing the robbery.

Are you familiar with the strategem "don't back your enemy into a corner"?
That applies in cases like this. No one is saying she is now a good person and that you have to like her. But if you don't give someone an out, they'll double down because there's no point.

Because as a Republican Congresswoman she more likely than not was/is guilty by association. She still supported Trump who is by far a worse offender than her ex-fiancé and his friends. She recently turned on Trump after he backed Pamela Evette over her.
There is also the fact she is arguably only moving forward with prosecuting these men because a.) She was personally affected as one of their victims and b.) She lost her Congressional Seat after failing to become SC Governor. So she has significantly less to lose now.

Did you finish the article? There’s this little piece that changes things a lot:
“The Republican, who is leaving the House this term after losing her bid to be South Carolina governor, introduced a proposal this week to require that anyone who brings such a case and loses must pay attorney fees for the defendant.”
So if you get raped, bring a case against your rapist, but he is not found guilty, you now owe the rapist a lot of money? Wow, what a hero. Barf.

u/cheese-allergy 1h ago
This is a crazy story. In late 2023 Mace finds evidence of the crime on her fiancee, Patrick Bryant's, phone. Shortly after, she breaks off the relationship and reports the evidence. Turns out he and another man (Eric Bowman) watched as third man (John Douglas Osborne) raped a 23 year old woman who was intoxicated and somehow ended up on one of their couches after falling into a pool. The rapist was evidently a venture capitalist who was employed by Bob Jones University in Greenville SC, which is an extremely conservative Christian school with a reputation for being rapey. It made news in 2014 for mishandling sexual abuse cases, again in 2020 for expelling sexual assault victims, and again in 2024 with the arrest of their camp director for raping a 15 year old girl.

She’s been doing this for years discrediting actual complaints.

Nancy Mace is such a dispicable person. I find very hypocritical that she is suddenly all about protecting women, while on the flip side she has been using her followers to hunt down random trans women for just being.
At the end of the day this will probably be moot. Republicans aren't concerned with women's rights.
