question Saw this on sale for $4 at Walmart. Is it worth buying to experiment? I kinda want to use this as spawn to mix with aspen chips.

ID request What in the world?

This is in a little cottage used as a school room in Kailua, Hawaii. This is on the island of Oahu.
I walked into school and saw what I thought was droppings on the plastic calendar cover. In my 50 years in Hawaii, I have never seen droppings that look like this. Then I looked up and saw this stuck to the wall. It is as white as the wall, but has the same orange stuff perhaps sticking it to the wall. It is maybe 2 inches long. What could this be?
New input: Some r/insects people think it might be a failed praying mantis ootheca. Others suggested I cross post over here because AI thinks it's white mold oozing through a defect in the paint. It certainly has been a rainy hurricane season in Hawaii this year.

ID request What the hell is this mysterious lump I found in the corner of my bedroom? Possible mould, insect nest, or something else?

Can anyone help identify what this is? 😭

I recently discovered this strange lump in the corner of my bedroom, sitting on the carpet.

It's greyish-brown with what looks like a hard outer surface and some white, fluffy-looking material around the bottom.

I'm fairly certain it wasn't there a few weeks ago. There's no noticeable smell, and the wall behind it is shared with a bathroom.

I'm concerned it could be mould, some kind of insect nest, or something else entirely.

I haven't touched or disturbed it because I genuinely have no idea what it is.

Located in Victoria, Australia.

Does anyone recognise it or know what it could be? And is it something I should be concerned about?

Got the first pin growth. Monotub setup. This is my first grow and it seems to be coming along well. This is the pioneer pin that came up. Open to any suggestions or advice on how to increase the yield. Thanks!

Found this big guy at work, cut it out after my shift, almost positive it's a puffball, but want to cover my paranoia by asking here. It's look-alikes don't get this big right? I haven't cut it open since I want to wait until I prepare it.

Hi! First time forager with much enthusiasm. I believe I have positively identified these as Hen of the Woods, and want to use them for some fake bacon tonight. Any additional visual ID to check my work would be encouraging!

question Why do these Chanterelles do this?

Thumbnail

I'm lucky enough to have lived my life in the Pacific Northwest and I'm even luckier to have chanterelles growing year after year on my property. I grew up camping in Olympic National Park and we always would pick Chanterelles and they never seemed to do this. I've eaten them and they don't taste any different but I'm just curious what might be the cause.
