Share your identification resources here
Hey all. We had a request from a community member for a thread where people can share the resources that they use for plant identification. In this case, we're talking about keys, field guides, etc. NOT apps or AI-based identifiers. Comments suggesting apps or AI will be removed.
Feel free to share your resources and include links if you want (just realize that Reddit doesn't play nice with some domains). It would also be a good idea to specify what region(s) are covered by your resource as it may not be as useful in places other than where it was intended to be used.

Identified β What is this and how do I get rid of it?
Does anyone know what this is?? And how to properly get rid of it??? Every millimeter of it is covered in needle-like thorns that pierce through every pair of gloves I have tried to use and hurt when touched with the slightest pressure. Itβs getting huge and some of its βbranchesβ are rooting back into the ground and growing roots. It was the one plant almost all summer but now itβs popping up in other areas near the big one. I live in New Jersey if that helps, but have never seen something like this

Identified β Colors of Fomitopsis pinicola but shape of a Laricifomes?
Found in the forests of southern Sweden. Second image seems clearly an example of Fomitopsis pinicola but the shape of the first example looks like no example I can find online. Is the first image a Fomitopsis pinicola but with a unusual shape or is this common for them? Thanks for any help in answering!
Edit: appears to be an older Fomitopsis pinicola

Unidentified π€·ββοΈ Is this Japanese Kerria or Honeysuckle?
We just moved in and trying to identify this plant.
Itβs shrub/tree-like, around 8-10 feet at the top - and growing directly below a mature cherry tree. Trying to identify before I do any trimming (or remove if invasive).
Lightly serrated leaves, has numerous offshoots, and the yellow flowers showed up at the end of September.
Location: Northern New Jersey

Unidentified π€·ββοΈ Tree of heaven or black walnut?
Thank goodness for this sub, I know every other post seems to be asking the same question I have. SF Bay Area, sprouted up down the street.
I have a black walnut and a lot of squirrels so it definitely could be that. These leaf edges look smooth to me and I donβt see the two thumbs. Looking for a consensus on what it actually is, thank you!

Unidentified π€·ββοΈ What is it?
Looking for a second opinion and hoping this isn't poison ivy. Central MA, October 15.
Edit: plant is about 10" tall, 3 leaves at the top of the stem and then growing in pairs along the stem (only about 1 pair per stem after the top 3), some red on the stem, leaves are serrated.

Identified β Bush, about 2m tall in an ornamental plant patch, southern Scandinavia.
I've seen similar purple berries on here before saying that they were edible, and now I'm curious if these are as well.
Edit: It seems that the most likely variant of this is Japanese Beautyberry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callicarpa_japonica) which isn't edible, which means that I won't try them. Thank you everyone!

Unidentified π€·ββοΈ Tree... Plant... Woody Weed? Help?
Hello, I am not an outdoor-sy person, let alone a plant person and as such, am needing some help.
We have these... Weeds? Saplings? That pop up all over our property and they are incredibly hard to remove and poisoning seems to do nothing.
What are these? Weeds? Offshoots from trees that previous grew around the property? Woody weeds?
Any help is appreciated!
