News 📰 Disappointed in the lack of awareness towards the social consequences of the recent YIC and MDY SA case. NSFW

• Upvotes

First of, stop letting the bots steer your opinions. Most of the people in comments are bots, intentionally misleading people.

Please understand that, even if the the YIC girl seems insufferable and annoying, she was still a victim….it doesn’t change the fact that we need to SPEAK OUT

STOP assuming the MDY rape allegations are fake, we need to assume it’s true until proven otherwise. These degenerates wants to normalize rape, and blame the girl.

We have literally NO SOLID EVIDENCE of it being fake. All they have is speculation of the writing behavior of the post 😭😭😭 like get a grip. They will literally find any dumb reason to blame the victim and protect a rapist.

You want to argue that it could destroy the boy’s future?!?!?!? (If allegations are fake)
It is ALREADY destroying the girls life, AND her future!! (If allegation are true)
It goes both ways, but guess what??? Fake rape allegations are MUCH LESSS LIKEY statically.
From realistic data, it’s more likely the girl really was rape, because rape occurs regularly while your false allegations is so much more rare.

THE IMPORTANT PART IS:
Now actual rape victims will be scared to speak up,
People are less likely to speak out next time, if you dog shits keep attacking influencers for “joining the trend”
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF ITS FAKE!!!
WE STILL HAVE TO SPEAK OUT!!

Will it take your mother or girlfriend or a women you love to be SA-ed, for you to understand something as simple as social consequences.

We should have taken this chance to let other victims speak out… instead you lots have empowered r*pist. You have made it clear that it’s easy to turn the table on the victim if they ever try to expose the rapist. Even without concrete evidence, everyone turn to blame the victim. Thanks a lot.

Don’t even try to argue, this isn’t something we should even be trying to discuss, if you choose to attack people joining the trend “cause they didn’t do their research” you are wrong and horrible.
Because those who spoke out, did so what with the available information at that time, for the good of society. They did amazing.

I’m a male, and it’s bloody clear as day how much SA on women happens on a regular basis. Stop being caught on “false allegations” that rarely happen and focus on crimes that actually happens all the time.

Discussion 💬 Anyone planning to go to the Sedona Halloween event on Oct 31st?

Post image

Just noticed poster ads for the Heineken "Halloween in Wonderland" event happening at the Sedona Hotel poolside area on October 31st. The theme seems to be "The Fallen Realm" with doors opening around 4 PM. I was just curious to see what the turnout might be like or if anyone here is actually planning to go. Also, if you are heading there, what costumes or outfits are you guys prepping to wear?

Advice Sometimes i am tired of ရှေးရိုးဆန် Burmese household

Like what do they expect me to be??? They are always finding a reason to insult me. I am not even doing anything to them, for other families, I am perfect child, I never curse to them, I don't do date, I don't run away from family, I don't ask them too much expensive things, I don't break stuffs or throw tantrums like my younger brother.

But why always me?? I am a human too, they keep picking up on me just because they are tired from work, and their job is basically sit there and write down the orders and get 10 lakhs easily because they are the boss. And when they get back, they would bring their employees and make me clean the whole house while throwing insults to me in front of her employees.

I sometimes wonder if they picked me up randomly from the street, they also call me rude :< I am not rude, i never even curse.. when I look up, they still say, I am like မျက်စောင်းထိုး which is totally not true since I got dead eyes from all these depression stuffs.

They forbid me to go out, they forbid me to talk while they're discussing, they are so misogynist and homophobic too...

As a Genderfluid and someone who keeps having body dysphoria, it's hard for me to come out to them nor express myself since they openly hate us, community.

They even control what friends i should get, they also stop me from getting higher education like going to better schools, which is just a bit far away. Ofc they give excuses of, "it's too far away!!!"They always oppress me so their son can shine. Now i couldn't even communicate properly, I keep having social anxiety and awkwardness.

I really want to die genuinely. I sometimes look back to traumatic events like me almost getting kidnapped at mall and blame myself for not going to those kidnappers. I rather get sell to old man or my organs get sold than this house.

they also love bombs too, I'm honestly really really tired. What should i do, chat.

Discussion 💬 Are we working to live or just working to survive now?

Genuine question for people living in Myanmar.

It feels like the cost of living keeps going up but salaries aren't keeping up at the same pace. Even having a decent job doesn't necessarily enough to save money or plan for the future anymore.

I'm curious about other people's experiences. If you're working locally, can you comfortably cover your expenses and still save? Running a business, is it getting harder to make a profit? Still see a future here or need to leave?

Not trying to make this another political argument. Just curious how people are actually managing life these days, beyond what we see in the news.

Advice Hey 👋🏻 (waited all of my teenage years to finally speak out from my heart about my feelings)

Hey guys, I have smth to say and I'm going to be direct about it because I have no more choice. (So sorry if my grammar is wrong but I'll try my best for you to understand) And this is my first ever post on Reddit

So first of all I'm 18 years old and living with my mom(since young age). When I was a kid my mom used to drink alcohol and stuff until 2023. While in around mid 2023 she slowly stopped her alcoholism behaviour and she moved her path into this Thailand lottery called 2D, 3D.

From then on until now she's still into her gambling addict and we're in dept and we're renting a house and now it's past due and she can't still find solution. I have these suicidal thoughts since I was 8 years old and it's been so hard for me to live like this.

These might not seem or sounds bug problem but it is for me and this is not even what I'm feeling because words can't even describe me anymore. And I'm not really a good talking person so pardon me.

So please I might need some of your's advice rather just motivation:((

I don't really wanted or dare to post this but here I am

News 📰 While young people are leaving Myanmar, one person has left everything in the U.S. to return. His name is Aung Thike Htun. He says he went to the U.S. in 2019 for college and played "professionally in American third division." Now, he came back to play for the Myanmar national football team.

When people researched what team he played for, it's an amateur club called Problems FC. It's a club in the fourth tier of NISA, which is an independent league in the U.S. not associated with top tier American leagues like MLS and USL.

So he never played professionally and he is now talking about helping Myanmar qualify for the 2030 World Cup LOL

He will be going through a trial with the national team. Let's see if he made the right decision to come back to Myanmar from the U.S. at a time like this.

People are mocking him online for lying about his playing experience and acting like he is a hotshot.

Discussion 💬 From Myanmar to Singapore - A Diaspora Story

Post image
53 Upvotes

I am currently in Singapore, where there is a large and growing Myanmar community. The Singapore government is notorious for hoarding data and information, so they do not indicate exactly how many people are here and in what categories. They are probably worried about upsetting the locals.

The last known estimate from Channel News Asia puts the number between 200,000 to 300,000. This is a small number compared to the diaspora in Thailand, but Singapore is also a much smaller location so I hear a lot of bamar and kayin being spoken as I walk the streets.

Again, there is no data published but talking to some friends in NGOs like HOME, NUS and government, I think that about 65% are here on short term work permits. About 10% are on longer term S pass and EPs. About 2% are here as students. Maybe 8% of that would be PRs and 2-3% are now Singapore citizens. They may be other passes and status that I don’t know about. Note that these just my personal guesses in terms of the percentages.

As a part of this diaspora, I have tried to talk to representatives of each group to learn about their positive and negative experiences. Here are some summarised points.

Positive: Strict law and order

Many have expressed appreciation for there being strict law and order, leading to much higher levels of personal safety. Girls here feel comfortable walking alone at 2am in the morning. You cannot bribe the police. This is a huge change compared to life in Myanmar.

Negative: Exploitation

To access law enforcement, individuals must be willing to report abuses and exploitation. Many bosses here know that low-income workers from Myanmar are not willing to report these cases to authorities lest they lose their permits and have to go back home. This has led to many abuse cases (underpaid salaries, long working hours, etc) becoming more common. And it is so frustrating for some to know that their bad bosses can be held to account but no one dares to report them.

Positive: Ability to earn money

A lot of workers have appreciated the ability to earn income in a strong currency. The work, especially those in the cleaning or F&B sectors, can be brutal but the income is steady. A lot are able to moonlight and do cleaning on the side and thus save up. There is virtually no income tax. And Singapore is quite open to businesses starting up so those friends who set up shops have found it very easy compared to the paperwork in myanmar.

Negative: High cost of living

Singapore is very expensive, which puts a dent into savings if one wishes to get decent rental rooms or to eat well. So if you are not careful, the money can disappear fast. One must also not forget agents in both Myanmar and Singapore who are asking for thousands of dollars in fees which they do not dare to impose on workers from China or Vietnam. similarly, for SME owners, rent is very high.

Positive: Welcoming locals

Locals here generally do not see the Myanmar community as a threat to their professional jobs. Most of the Myanmar workers are here as blue-collar workers. White collar workers from China and India are more likely to be seen as potential threats. Thus, cases of outright animosity against Myanmar folks are low, unlike in places like Thailand.

Negative: Abusive locals

However, it is just as likely for them to be condescending and see those from Myanmar as uneducated and unintelligent. This often leads employers, especially those of maids, to treat Myanmar folks as simpletons. It does not help that many of the Myanmar folks come with poor English levels and are unable to express themselves well. Thus, they have to put up with this.

Positive: Social mobility is possible

Singapore accept Myanmar folks as PRs and citizens. This is different from places like Dubai. Here, we get access to the same schools as the locals. Top local schools now have Myanmar origin students, and they also go into the top universities. They also give government scholarships to these Myanmar students and accept them in elite work positions. Companies and the government are far more likely to hire you based on skills and qualifications instead of looking at your race.

Negative: Social acceptance is more challenging.

Singapore puts on a strong emphasis on the Chinese, Malay and Indian communities here being all equal as citizens. This is to prevent the type of single race domination we see in places like Malaysia. However, it now means that if you are not part of this CMI group, it is difficult for Singaporeans to accept that you are truly a citizen. My friend has been in Singapore since he was 10. He became a citizen at 21. He served in the Singapore army and is an officer. He works in the Singapore government. He has a Chinese Singaporean wife. Even then, people still talk to him as if his country is Myanmar. So, he suspects that he will never be fully embraced as an equal.

Final thoughts

I don't want to portray Singapore as either a paradise for Myanmar people or a place where everyone is exploited and discriminated against. Neither description would be accurate.

For many people, Singapore offers safety, employment, education and opportunities that would be difficult to find elsewhere. For others, the cost of living, recruitment debts, workplace exploitation and the feeling of never quite belonging can be difficult to overcome.

And the experience of a domestic worker on a Work Permit is obviously very different from that of a university student, a professional or a second-generation Singaporean of Myanmar origin.

I'm sharing this because I think it is worth understanding the diversity of the Myanmar diaspora, including the experiences of people who have settled in places that receive less attention than Thailand.

I'm curious to hear from others in the Myanmar diaspora: If you've lived in Singapore, or in another country outside Myanmar, what has your experience been like? What surprised you most about living there, both positively and negatively?

Advice Seeking Advice

I'm so sick of living in this country with no future it's always isn't enough. I'm 28 right now a senior developer tbh jobs seems really hard to obtain for overseas. Would it be a viable idea to join a different workforce get a stay/pass then continue looking for tech jobs within it? Is that realistic or possible? Or am I just being delulu?

Discussion 💬 Another big scam?

Thumbnail

The Central condo in Yangon really dropped the ball. They charged buyers up to 2 billion kyat, missed every deadline by six years, and then the management just disappeared. Buyers are left hanging outside a locked sales office, holding onto contracts that no one is willing to enforce.

Looking back, the government made its own currency worthless overnight. Banks went down, people lost their savings, and guess what? No one faced consequences since the ones who should have prosecuted were the very people causing the mess.

Now, scam centers are popping up all over Mandalay and Yangon, and it’s not just on the borders anymore.

Here’s the reality: when the government itself is the main scammer, every smaller scam is just a result of the economy adjusting. You can’t expect a condo developer to play fair when the government is busy seizing savings, wrecking the currency, and not being accountable to anyone.

Without the rule of law, trust goes out the window. And without trust, every deal feels like a game of chance.

It’s not just a few bad apples. We’re all living in this rotten orchard 🤢

Advice Future jobs for the youth?

I am an 18y/o living outside Myanmar right now. I'm supposed to be picking a major and a college soon, but things seem so bleak to me and I don't know wtf I should pursue and if I'll ever live a decent life with a decent job, and on top of everything AI is fucking up pretty much every job market today.

I hate being a disappointment for my parents who are working so hard to fund my life and education outside myanmar. I wanted to ask if yall have any general ideas or suggestions or advice for a confused teenager here 🥲 I do wish to work and settle in Myanmar when i graduate, I just dont know what field would be a good idea to pick tbh. Ig I sometimes do wish the country will be a better place by the time I'm out of college but yeah, idk.

Thank you!
