I have a collection valued around 13k in ManaBox. I’ve been playing for around 10 years so I’ve had a lot of cards from back around that time that have shot up in value from commander (and MTG in general) exploding in popularity alongside the universes beyond implementation. (Cut to me angrily opening a smothering tithe as my P1P1 rare in every single ravnica draft)
In theory my collection and all of our collections will continue to rise in value as the game continues to grow and new IP’s get implemented into universes beyond that continue to bring in new players (waiting on you fromsoftware)
But thee is one thing that has had me considering selling my collection at some point in the next couple years, and brings me to the question I wrote this post for.
Do any of you think the rollout of a digital commander client would decimate the value of physical cards? Not completely, but heavily. It’s all but confirmed (maybe even actually confirmed?) that they’re working on either a separate commander client, or working on implementing 4 player commander into arena itself. This obviously is a matter of when, not if, this happens. And it would be something that would cause a mass selling off of physical decks/collections as people move on to being able to play commander digitally.
I was curious what the opinions of the mtgfinance sub are on this, because the day this actually happens is probably closer than we thing
