Was playing a game and an opponent cast [[Blasphemous act]] and then asked to do a round of priority. Asked player 2 for a response? No response. Asked player 3 for a response? No response. Asked me for a response? No response.
After he sees the table has no responses he says "I have a response" and casts [[Gold Rush]] to make his commander survive the wipe and pumping it to lethal commander damage for anyone in the game.
I informed him that thats not actually how priority works, and that the spell would resolve the moment prio got back to him, with no further window to respond. You cant seek information about if its going to resolve, or if its going to leave you in a favorable position before spending the protection spell.
Normally, I'm pretty lax with takebacks, but he def was gonna swing on me and everyone else still had very high life totals, so this interaction would leave me playing spectator for the only game we had time for this evening. Not to mention new information was definitely learned, because seeking more information is why he wanted to do things in this order in the furst place. So when he asked the table if a takeback was cool I said "Not really because I'm dead if I do", and thats what the table ended up doing.
How would you navigate this situation? Was that messed up, or am I valid here. How do yall handle when youre chill or not chill with takebacks that swing games?
