Hiring Movers How many quotes did you get before booking a mover?

Curious how people decide. Did you get 2 quotes? 5? Just go with the first one that felt right?

And did the cheapest one end up being the best deal?

DIY, Pods & Truck Rental Shipping Companies FL to WI

Hi all!! Looking for some insight moving from FL to WI at the beginning of January 2027 to close the gap of my LDR and be with my fiancé. I have to ship my stuff though and I think I have more than would make sense to go through local UPS/postal?

I have a walking pad, lamp that I can disassemble that's about 5 feet tall, clothes probably four or five boxes worth shoes etc, and some picture frames, knickknacks and photographs.

No furniture, no beds, dressers, desks, etc. I called Mayflower movers and I have to get a quote from them, but I'm wondering if anybody has some advice i've already done the hard stuff like leasing an apartment and I'm in the process of finding a job gonna sell my car in FL get a new car up there so now I have to worry about shipping my stuff woo hoo!

4. Keep posts politically neutral We are not r/politics or other related subs. Our sub has a zero-tolerance policy for politics or political-related topics. Do NOT PM/DM, call, text, email, smoke signal, pigeon message, etc. anyone who tells/asks you to on this site. We do our best to remove bad actors, but they still exist.
Typically, you should not need to pay a deposit when scheduling your move. Payment should be split between when the movers show up and when they leave.
We CANNOT provide estimates and posts asking questions like "how much does x cost" will be removed. If you want to know how much a move will cost, reach out to a few moving companies that service your area and ask for a quote.
If you have received an estimate but have not picked a company yet, pay attention to the fees, if the estimate is binding or not, and the terms of the delivery date.
The cheapest way to move will always be to sell literally everything but what you can carry with you (on your person, in your vehicle if you have one) and do 100% of the packing, loading, transporting and unloading. The more you ask someone else to do, the more it is going to cost.
