This looks like what in french we call a "citron cedrat" (citron is lemon in french, cedrat is citron... that's funny/confusing...). They have a very thick rind, and you can make marmelade out of the rind and it's delicious (I made a few like 3 or 4 years ago and they were very good, it can be a bit bitter but if you soak the rind in cold water before it's less bitter).

I'm sorry but that doesn't look like a weird little french hatchback to me

There's an "E" in that one. And an accent on it, called "tréma".

Rough lemon, I'd bet, actually. Probably sprouting off the rootstock.

You can candy the peel like citron, though

Citron is an original, ancestral species, Citrus medica. Lemon (Citrus limon) is a natural hybrid between a Citron and a Bitter orange (Citrus x aurantium, which is a natural hybird between the Pomelo, Citrus maxima, and the Mandarin orange, Citrus reticulata). A Meyer lemon (Citrus x meyeri) is a natural hybrid of the lemon and Mandarin orange
