Infuriatig This girl won’t take no for an answer.
This girl has been on and off texting me for months. Every two months ever since my last relationship ended this girl I met through my old job has been taking wild shots for almost a full year now. At first I was nice and friendly with her, but we didnt really vibe well and she lives far away, so I told her I didn’t like her, she and I didn’t talk for about 3 months.
Now every 2 months is the same thing. She texts me “u up?” As I’m literally closing my eyes and begs me to reconsider. I’ve tried being nice and letting her know I’m not into her, I don’t think we’d be good friends, but I wish her all the best. I tried being distant and obviously disinterested, and at this point I’m just being blunt. Finally, I blocked her, maybe now she’ll get the message.
Over all, these texts don’t ruin my day, but I’d be lying if this girl didn’t infuriate me with how often she blatantly ignores how many times I say no.
The image was the last thing we said to each other before I decided to finally pull the plug.

One time she told me ask her about her opinion on something so I did, her response was “I hate that shit.”

Block her, or answer as someone else and tell her you're someone else.
6
u/Danny2Sick 8h ago
It resonates with me as I used to do this with lots of little interactions, arguments about small things, drama with 'friends'. I still am working onmyself as a semi-old fart now, but I've gotten a lot better at just going 'ahh well' to myself and not engaging with bullshit when you don't have to. It feels freeing on some level
84
u/glytxh 6h ago
knew a girl like this once
just block her. it'll get fucking weird and intense and you'll wake up at 3am with her in your garden one day, handing you a tape her medium recorded explaining how you are soul mates
and then you'll go to the police and they'll laugh at you
for real just stop responding. block her on everything.
46
u/LSShoat 6h ago
That’s…oddly specific are you ok? But yeah I blocked her.
36
u/glytxh 6h ago
this was near enough 20 years ago
I was naive and polite and she would NOT take no for an answer. it got real ugly and freaky
low key fucked me up for a bit. I just wanna share my experience in a hope someone else doesn't have to go through the same, cos that message string looked unnervingly similar to what I remember reading from her
you will become the villain in every story she tells about this for years to come though. just be prepared for that
17
u/LSShoat 6h ago
Well I’m ok with being the villain in her story. We don’t have a mutuals and we don’t even live in the same state. Hope you’re doing ok though, sounds rough.

The mildly infuriating part for me is the persistence mixed with the lack of effort. It just comes across as such a half hearted shot in the dark, like why?
For the record I’m talking about her not you, not sure why you’re taking so much shit in the comments. People get so pedantic in this sub
25
u/LSShoat 8h ago
Some people say it’s cause I’m a dude, which I don’t think I ever said so they just be assuming. And yeah totally, if she put a bit more effort into trying to get to know me all the way back when we first met then maybe we’d be friends, but she waited till I was literally at my lowest and instead of supporting me just asked me to love her. Idk, I wish her the best though, just can’t handle her.

u/Cuckdreams1190 8h ago
She's attempting to keep him on the line in case she ever wanted to reel him in.
Of course this is a complete guess, but it's not an uncommon thing for people to do, unfortunately.

block way earlier, don't let it get to you! It took me a long time to learn this and I am still working on it, but try not to let little things like that stress you out! It makes life easier for yourself to just go 'ah well' and block and go have snack and forgeddabouteeet!! (to be read in problematic Super Mario voice)

No people are saying you should have blocked her the first time. Not after she bugged you for months on end. "BuT i DiD block HeR" Yeah. Eventually. Much too late.
14
u/LSShoat 10h ago
And when people said “you should’ve blocked her sooner.” I respond with “you are right, I should have.” Because yeah, I should have. At the end of the day though she should’ve taken no as an answer, and either way I did block her.
3
u/shiyalovely 5h ago
Yeah this here - it's not on you for not blocking sooner, how is this your fault?? It's on her for not taking your no for an answer, and continually following up on it. It is disrespectful on her end, and she is the one looking a fool. You were kind, and that's that. Everyone blaming you here is wild.

u/JennyferSuper 10h ago
I had a guy do this to me over a decade ago. I remember I was at work texted him a response along the lines of “sorry not interested.”
Then I turned, with my phone open in my hand, to my boss to talk about the texts. I said something out loud along the lines of “don’t know what to do to get this guy to leave me alone, it’s starting to get creepy.” I looked to my phone to see I sent that e tire conversation as one of those Apple voice recordings. And he listened to it and I got the notice he SAVED it. It was a legitimate accident on my part I’m sure no one would ever believe was accidental. I was so embarrassed and I felt so bad. But he did stop messaging me. 🤷♀️

Yep, seems like a bunch of people are mad a man could be not interested in the woman pursuing him, and they somehow take it personally (and quite aggressively)
11
u/FinancialTrade8197 10h ago
It's because a lot of them are people who can't find a partner and are desperate, I think.
19
u/LSShoat 10h ago
I feel like I’m going crazy rn. I know I should’ve blocked her sooner, my b, but at the end of the day I still feel like she should’ve taken no as an answer?
19
u/by_the_window 10h ago
Definitely, I think you went about it perfectly fine. She should have heard your "no" and not kept pushing, and you don't have to block people if that makes you uncomfortable.
2
u/CallMeRudiger 4h ago
People are pretty nutty about blocking these days. It's okay to be more patient than others or need more time to figure out how you feel, and block someone when you're ready to. I don't tend to block someone unless they're bombarding me with texts, being abusive, sending unsolicited nudes, or something along those lines.
95
u/EverettSeahawk 11h ago
At a certain point, you just have to block the number and move on. It sounds like that point was a while ago, but it’s never too late.
55
14
u/Annie640 7h ago
Reddit in general lacks basic reading comprehension, in my experience. Some of these responses in here are extra wild. Good on you for blocking her. In future, do that sooner. You shouldn't have had to block her though, she should have stopped after the first time you said no. It's the same thing we expect of men. If a man did this, we'd call it harassment, not sure why we aren't when it's done by a woman
7
u/UndefinedCertainty 7h ago
I know you already did, but I agree with everyone one else who said to block. Blocking is something I usually don't do myself with people because it can take on an unintended tone in some cases; but inform and delete, no problem.
It sounds like you did your best to be clear and she just didn't want to hear that. If you were more direct or deleted or blocked her afterwards (which apparently you eventually did), you'd be justified. You wouldn't be and aren't a shitty person for it either. I think giving her the silent treatment or ghosting would have be shitty and you gave her the dignity of an actual answer, which shows at least a modicum of emotional maturity on your part.
4
u/LSShoat 7h ago
I do agree and wish I blocked her earlier. I just wish I didn’t have to. I wish she would’ve just listened to when I said no and understand.

Dude my dental hygienist looked me up on instagram and slid into my DMs but I had no idea who it was because we had interacted so briefly and she had her mask on. I was friendly at first and it was pretty clear she wanted something sexual which I was pretty much ok with but she’d be communicating in these weird word salad inside jokes that only she understood.
I asked her bluntly if she’d had an issues with mental health which I am pretty open about experiencing depression and anxiety myself, but she denied it. I ended up telling her multiple times we’re not even compatible as friends before blocking her across various platforms as she’d find me and be angry and insult me about random things.
I ended up telling the dentist but they still have her on staff. It’s tough because I really don’t want to change dentists, they’re nearby and I did Invisalign with them, they have all my scans and everything. But it’s also kind of a scary feeling to have this unwanted stalker who seems to be unstable with sharp objects in my mouth.

u/kehsciences 11h ago
I block strangers on Reddit for less reasons than being harassed by some ex-coworker for a possible intimate connection. You’ll make new acquaintances! I’m sure of it.
6
u/DAggerYNWA 7h ago
Weird lack of effort…:
My ex broke up with me recently. We spent months apart, I wanted to reconcile. She just wanted to be friends so I said ok let’s part ways. She keeps texting me… this must be some sort of control thing if she doesn’t want to actually be with me. I didn’t want to have to block her but some people will just run all over your boundaries
2
u/LSShoat 7h ago
I’m sorry to hear about that dude. I hope things ease up for you soon, and yeah don’t let her control you man. Fingers crossed for you.

She keeping you on the shelf just in case the guy she left you for doesn't work out. In other words, she's having her cake and eating it too; she's dating another guy while still benefiting from the emotional comfort that you provide.

I was at a bar with my girlfriend when I was approached by an older woman who I'd seen dancing with other guys, I told her "I don't know how"-"I'll teach you lots of moves"..."I'm too drunk"-"that's the best way to dance"... "I'm not interested"-"but I am" finally my GF grabbed my dick and said loud enough for people to hear snd laugh "this is my man and this is my dick"....she left us alone after that

For the future, dont respond to literally anyone else that isn't TRULY important to you after 10pm. Especially if its casual talk. It immediately allows a boundary that your giving her an exception to talk to her after hours. Family, bros* and important SOs only. Unless its a mutual booty call but even then dont stick your d*** in crazy.

I don't understand why you didn't block her. You tried all these things except blocking. For almost a full year, every 2 months, you've been entertaining texts from a girl you don't like, but not once did you block her. Why?
14
u/LSShoat 11h ago
Because I don’t like blocking people. If someone has something important to say to me I wanna make sure they can. It’s dumb I know but it’s just how I’ve always operated.
17
u/Agreeable-Pickle 11h ago
Not really. You don't have to reply to anything. I think blocking is for people harassing you. A message every 2 months is far from harassing.
I am the same. I just see blocking people as unnecessary most of the time. Sometimes reading and ignoring a message sends a good enough message anyway.
10
u/WinnerBusy855 11h ago
what could she possibly have to say to you that’s important?
1
u/DueAdvisor8969 11h ago
Okay so be mildly infuriated at yourself, not her. You leave the door open for people to contact you and then get annoyed when they do - that’s your fault.
22
u/LSShoat 11h ago
Can I not be infuriated at both people? Like I know I should’ve blocked her sooner, that’s my b, but can I not be annoyed that when I say no she doesn’t take it as no?
-4
u/DueAdvisor8969 11h ago edited 10h ago
The first time you said no and she didn’t respect it you should have blocked her. But you didn’t because you wanted the ego boost. At least be grown up enough to admit it. You don’t get to create a problem and then go “ooh girls are annoying look!” She shouldn’t have been able to text you again if you didn’t want her to.
10
u/LSShoat 11h ago
Can a brother not grow? I didn’t do it for the ego boost, but even if I did can I not look back at that and realize how bad it was, then block her for both our sakes?
17
u/DazzlingFruit7495 10h ago
I’m so confused by people being mad at u for not blocking sooner. Like sure, you could’ve, but she also could’ve just stopped harassing you after you said no. Especially since in the screenshot she’s intentionally pushing past the no in an attempt to convince u. These comments are mildly victim-blaming tbh
9
u/No_Type_454 PURPLE 10h ago
that’s what reddit is, they can’t argue with the woman here, so they do anything they can to argue with someone, just happens to be the guy here

1
u/AutomaticLet6241 7h ago
Apologies, I missed that. If she is blocked, and the text still comes through (I know it happens), do not engage. Ghost her.
2
u/LSShoat 7h ago
Yeah, I don’t plan on talking to her ever again. Sorry if my last message came off rude, a lot of people here are mad at me for not blocking her when I already did.
1
u/AutomaticLet6241 7h ago
You come to Reddit for assistance. Some suggestions you've already done, some you've already discounted. You are looking for suggestions you haven't thought of. One more suggestion: keep the messages. Do not delete. She might become angry and threaten you. This may be your evidence that she is batshit.
1
u/LSShoat 7h ago
Honestly that’s good advice, I already deleted the messages though, rip. I’m not too worried she’ll become aggressive though, if she does I know she doesn’t know where I live, I told her I lived on a state I don’t actually live in just in case. But I’m more worried she’ll hurt herself. As much as I didn’t like her and we didn’t vibe, I didn’t hate her either, we just weren’t compatible in any way and I honestly thought it would be better for her to not rely on me when I don’t think we are good as friends.

I mean, I'd send one final "no, I'm not interested and don't text me anymore." Maybe you have already done that in the past, but from what I'm reading in the photo you posted, I'm not sure you're sending a clear enough message. If you send a straight up - no, leave me alone I'm not interested and she still persists, then it's time to block.

I really don't understand being bothered by someone via text. Just ignore them. Like when you said you'd be closing your eyes and she'd text you "you up?" I would go ahead and continue closing my eyes.
2
u/LSShoat 8h ago
I did go to sleep, then I’d clear the notification by “reading” the text, which left read receipts and then she’d ask why I wasn’t responding, to which I’d tell her I’m not interested in her or being friends with her.

1
u/NoHome7956 1h ago
I totally get this. Random texts from girls you barely know just "checking in".
Had this girl who I knew through family friends. She knew I had a girlfriend but every few months she would "check in" to see how I am, and of course ask if I'm still with my girl. Of course I would say yes I am and have a pleasant, platonic back and forth and leave it at that.
Anyway, I broke up with that girl friend and after a few months decided I want to start dating again. Then I remembered her and sent her a text. No response lol.
My advice is, women who do that prodding stuff and don't really follow through, are usually not sure of what they want and they just use you as a source of validation or backup. If they can't take no for an answer, then think about how it would be if the shoe was on the other foot and a guy was behaving the same way.

u/ToopToop204 11h ago
No need for all those blue bubbles. "The answer is No." Then you block her. You can even skip the response and go straight to block.
14
u/LSShoat 11h ago
I did block her, but I wanted to let her know why I didn’t get along with her. Just thought it’d be nice to know.
1
u/ToopToop204 11h ago
The continued engagement can give false hope and lead a person on. It can cause more frustration on both ends, yours and hers. You can be nice but sometimes people can be too nice. She's probably used this exact type of behavior to get her way with other people before and thought you'd give in eventually. Good on you for being blunt and blocking her in the end, you don't need that in your life.
