Does it itch or get irritated at all?

Since you already use hand creams (read elsewhere) - here comes an unpopular opinion.... Stop it! All of it!

At least for a month or two - then you have a baseline. Start off from scratch with a gentle, unbranded, aloe vera cream - preferably something allergy friendly, then move to whatever you normally use.

And if it doesn't stop then - might be something else in your daily routine that does this, eg. a hand soap, sanitizer etc.
I got a very similar reaction back in the COVID days - it was because of the ethanol hand sanitizer...

Having eliminated any other potential allgergies or other phenomena. A tube of bog-standard camphor cream works wonders on hands and toes that tends to shed like this. No brand needed - standard, cheap camphor cream. The cheap ones work as well as the others.
Apply it, then after a little while, all the dead skin pretty much comes off automatically when you rub your hands, and you'll have no problems the rest of the day...

yeah ditto, i had severe dishydrotic eczema for long periods in spain each warm season on the hands, and i moisturised and moisturised and moisturised, like literally 15x a day to stop the itching and flaking and it kept getting worse and worse and then my partner told me that the skin produces less oils if you moisturise too much, which worsens things, went cold turkey and voila, became significantly better, almost totally gone except a singular finger in the heat of summer now and haven't used hand moisturiser for years!
