I drink coffee from a transparent mug thing and it doesn’t look like this bullshit. This looks like bacon grease or something

Do you drink filter coffee or americano? Because when I make pour over in my hario glass decanter, it's almost always this color

When I do pour over it's much darker than this.

Could just be using different roasts tbh, light vs dark roast

Even then it should be a lot darker unless its single shot. We use a lighter roast and this looks roughly 8-10oz. It should look a lot darker

If this was in a mug it would look darker.

Are you using gesha? That is always a much lighter color. When I’ve ordered or made gesha pour overs they look exactly like this.

let the guy enjoy is shitty watery coffee man. he's just going to continue throwing stupid brand names at you like that makes up for him drinking shitwater.

Why would it be watery

Pour overs with light roast beans look exactly like the picture. There is almost no point in doing a pourover with dark roast.

I don’t know wtf you’re saying.

Then this obviously isn't the thread for you

Because your drinking over roasted cheap beans

false. Light roast only. I’ve been making coffee every day for 40+ years and I’ve kinda gotten the hang of it

Give me an example of a light roast bean you’ve brewed recently that doesn’t have this color.

tbf french roast isn't always "cheap" and was considered top notch specialty coffee like 20-30 years ago. Coffee has trends just like anything else.

That being said because most specialty coffee has moved to light/medium roast (for good reason) it is safe to assume that pretty much any dark roast is shit and cheap.

But I wanted to split hairs bc dark roast doesn't always automatically = cheap.

They could have been considered top notch but doesn’t mean they were by today’s standards. There’s no reason to roast beans “dark” other than to hide defects and inconsistencies, or to appeal to people that don’t know how to drink coffee any other way.

How do you take your steak?

1

Medium rare

Disgusting. Anything beyond blue is hiding flaws

Dark roast coffee is like getting a well done steak

Yeah if you like pour overs, light roasts with a flat burr grinder are really good.
