That looks like a pretty delicious pour over. It's just what it looks like in a transparent glass.

u/queef_nuggets Sep 10 '26

I drink coffee from a transparent mug thing and it doesn’t look like this bullshit. This looks like bacon grease or something

14

u/Melodic_coala101 Sep 10 '26

Do you drink filter coffee or americano? Because when I make pour over in my hario glass decanter, it's almost always this color

13

u/Immortal_Azrael Sep 10 '26

When I do pour over it's much darker than this.

4

u/AntiSombrero Sep 10 '26

Could just be using different roasts tbh, light vs dark roast

3

u/ZaraReid228 Sep 10 '26

Even then it should be a lot darker unless its single shot. We use a lighter roast and this looks roughly 8-10oz. It should look a lot darker

u/andynator1000 Sep 10 '26

If this was in a mug it would look darker.

1

u/Mamadi-Diakite Sep 10 '26

Are you using gesha? That is always a much lighter color. When I’ve ordered or made gesha pour overs they look exactly like this.

let the guy enjoy is shitty watery coffee man. he's just going to continue throwing stupid brand names at you like that makes up for him drinking shitwater.

1

u/Big_Lawfulness_8143 Sep 12 '26

Why would it be watery

0

u/ArterialVotives Sep 10 '26

Pour overs with light roast beans look exactly like the picture. There is almost no point in doing a pourover with dark roast.

-2

u/soupdawg Sep 10 '26

I don’t know wtf you’re saying.

3

u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 Sep 10 '26

Then this obviously isn't the thread for you

6

u/Flrg808 Sep 10 '26

Because your drinking over roasted cheap beans

1

u/queef_nuggets 21d ago

false. Light roast only. I’ve been making coffee every day for 40+ years and I’ve kinda gotten the hang of it

2

u/Flrg808 21d ago

Give me an example of a light roast bean you’ve brewed recently that doesn’t have this color.

-1

u/howdyhowdyhowdyhowdi Sep 10 '26

tbf french roast isn't always "cheap" and was considered top notch specialty coffee like 20-30 years ago. Coffee has trends just like anything else.

That being said because most specialty coffee has moved to light/medium roast (for good reason) it is safe to assume that pretty much any dark roast is shit and cheap.

But I wanted to split hairs bc dark roast doesn't always automatically = cheap.

1

u/Flrg808 Sep 10 '26

They could have been considered top notch but doesn’t mean they were by today’s standards. There’s no reason to roast beans “dark” other than to hide defects and inconsistencies, or to appeal to people that don’t know how to drink coffee any other way.

2

u/jdubzakilla Sep 10 '26

How do you take your steak?

1

u/Flrg808 Sep 10 '26

Medium rare

1

u/jdubzakilla Sep 10 '26

Disgusting. Anything beyond blue is hiding flaws

1

u/Big_Lawfulness_8143 Sep 12 '26

Dark roast coffee is like getting a well done steak

0

u/Santa_Klausing Sep 10 '26

Yeah if you like pour overs, light roasts with a flat burr grinder are really good.

26

u/alex95 Sep 10 '26

I'm certain it's pour-over. This is most likely specialty coffee. If it is specialty it demands a higher price because it requires much more care, attention and experimentation than a classic cup.

15

u/lacrosse771 Sep 10 '26

Sounds pretentious and unnecessary

20

u/syynapt1k Sep 10 '26

That's why it costs more. They know the demographic they are marketing to.

3

u/MalevolentRhinoceros Sep 10 '26

It's like comparing a hershey's chocolate bar to a single-origin, fair trade dark chocolate. Or a fast food hamburger to one you make yourself off a grill. They're both edible, they both do the trick, but there's a difference in price point for a reason.

-3

u/lacrosse771 Sep 10 '26

Fast food is vastly more expensive than homemade and the quality sucks. I don't see the point you're trying to make

0

u/Buttered_ball Sep 10 '26

Got a chuckle out of me that you don't mention the Hershey chocolate vs single-origin fair trade dark chocolate and say you don't understand the point.

Instead of a homemade burger compare a michelin starred restaurant burger vs a fast food burger. Michelin burger will be 3x the cost of a fast food burger but is still just meat, bread, and extras that you'll poop out in a day

2

u/BabyWrinkles Sep 10 '26

In the same way that a rum nicer than Bacardi or a tequila better than Jose Cuervo is pretentious and unnecessary - sure.

If you’re drinking it for the buzz, whatever stuff you have is great. If you’re drinking it because you enjoy the flavor, the upper limit is what you can afford.

0

u/cade360 Sep 10 '26

Na, it's banging

1

u/ItsAndwew Sep 10 '26

It’s not, some people enjoy the differences in flavors among specialty coffee. It’s a hobby like craft beer. People can certainly go about it in a pretentious manner. Those stupid espresso workflow videos certainly don’t help haha

1

u/QuesadillaSauce Sep 10 '26

That’s like saying a well-cooked premium cut of steak is pretentious and unnecessary because you could just eat hamburger. They’re different foods for different markets

-5

u/_im_that_guy_ Sep 10 '26

It's a ridiculous price even for specialty coffee but for anyone that drinks coffee it's worth trying out a pourover. Most people haven't had a coffee that doesn't demand dairy/sweetener to be enjoyable

It's not theatrics, it's just that pour over has to be done by hand and can't be made in a big batch in a machine, so you are paying for the extra labor.

1

u/LonelyTAA Sep 11 '26

Pour over can't be done by a machine? What the hell are you smoking. Every boomer in my country has a pour over coffee machine.

1

u/Deathmonkeyjaw Sep 11 '26

That's called drip coffee dumbass

1

u/LonelyTAA Sep 11 '26

It's the same thing.

1

u/Big_Lawfulness_8143 Sep 12 '26

Square rectangle situation

When people say pour over they dont mean drip

0

u/_im_that_guy_ Sep 10 '26

Playing off whiskey as if it doesnt get pretentious is pretty funny to me. They're doing as much bullshit as anybody but maybe that's just because of my proximity to bourbon land

1

u/Easy_Record_994 Sep 10 '26

It looks like a pretty weak pour over.

*This is a medium roast with a burr grinder.

2

u/QuesadillaSauce Sep 10 '26

That is NOT medium roast lmao

1

u/Easy_Record_994 Sep 10 '26

That's fair, it's on the darker end of medium but definitely not burnt. I really don't like lighter roasts.

1

u/Kreason95 Sep 12 '26

This is not the darker end of medium, this is a dark roast.

0

u/mindcontainer Sep 10 '26

In this thread is 900 people that are drinking piss water thinking it’s a pour over coffee or pour through 😂😂😂

-2

u/ProtoplanetaryNebula Sep 10 '26

I am not a coffee person by any means, but I thought it was supposed to be black? Where I am from coffee is usually drunk with milk anyhow, but before the milk is added it's an opaque black colour.
