I think that the entire point of the clear backpack is to root out any phones that people are "hiding".

It would make it a bit harder, but I expect they are selling that as a safety thing. I'd rather the kids had some privacy over whatever benefit those may provide. The pouches or simple ban is all you need. They are a non-issue for us, now.

I honestly don't know what the solution is. I'd rather the kids had privacy too. Our son's school "banned" phones outside of the pouches, but the teachers stopped enforcing it after half the year.

The admins have to enforce it. I would be shocked if the teachers didn't buy into if the admins were. It puts pressure on admins as they are the ones who have to fight with the parents and not accept excuses. For teachers it is easy and what every teacher I know of wants. Literally, all I do in my class is:

See phone.

Stop what I'm doing and stare at student with phone.

They quickly realize what is happening and I point at the corner of my desk where the phones go.

When they argue, I just point at the corner of my desk. If arguing continues, I remind them that defiance is much more serious consequence.

It is very simple. In the rare cases where it has to go to the admin, it is a an 2 minutes out of my day. No big deal as long as the admin does their job.
