So don’t argue with them? Just send them to the principal. Suspend them. Etc.

Then I'd be sending half my class to the principal's office which would also get me on the admin's shit list because the principal doesn't really care to deal with these types of things and the kids just end up wandering the halls to waste time. Suspension and expulsion requires a whole admin process here, idk about other schools, and it's often not worth risking my position nor arguing with parents just for a silly phone. Plus I've heard too many kids talk about suspension like it's vacation so I don't even know if it's even a punishment anymore.

Believe me I'd love it if these type of BS equipment isn't necessary or forced in schools.

Stop making excuses.

Send half the fucking class. Have a spine. Hold them accountable. Kick them out.

Dude just say you’re not a teacher and don’t understand how running a classroom works lol

Sure thing. Just say you don’t want to have to enforce any real discipline

I do. It got to the point, district wide, where we enforced them leaving their phone in the office upon arrival.

I really don’t think you understand. Starts with a warning, then a detention + call home, sending them to the office. They just don’t give a shit. Admin send them back, their parents either don’t really care or say “oh we will take care of it” and the cycle continues.

I enforce discipline every day in my classroom. The phones were a totally different beast. And we were NOT allowed to confiscate them per our district policies.

How is the pouch going to change any of this? If they don’t follow the rules and have their phone out and not in the pouch?

How is the pouch going to make adherence the rules or discipline any different?

The pouch needs a strong magnet to open it. Even if they manage to bring one with them, there are two things that help prevent them using their phone.

  1. It’s an extra step they have to take

  2. It’s incredibly obvious when they are opening it

Does t resolve the issue of how are you going to enforce it when they don’t comply.

Ie if just telling them they can’t have the phones, and they don’t comply, can’t be policed. How will a pouch change the policing?

The only thing that will help the policing is punishment/enforcement.
