Clear Backpacks + Pay to Keep Your Phone

My freinds school is now requiring these items, and is also using AI to promote this 🫠

If your kid puts a dead phone in a pouch and hides a real phone, and you think that the phone is not taken out of hiding and used impermissibly, then I have lakeside real estate in the Sahara to sell you. If the real phone was not going to be used impermissibly, then there would be no reason to have a dead phone in the pouch at all; the real phone could go in the pouch, since it is not going to be used impermissibly. The very existence of a scheme to hide the real phone while having a dead decoy phone to put in the pouch is a solution in search of a problem unless you/your child see it as a problem that they are NOT allowed to use their phone impermissibly.

Be a better parent.

Jesus, you sound insufferable and you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about. You sound like a bootlicker.

I'm a great parent and I'd give my kid a dummy phone for this purpose. I can think of all sorts of reasons I dont want my kid having to go to a teacher to unlock their phone in case they need to contact me.

If you actively would help your child violate school policy because you think you know better, then, no, you are not being a good parent. You are being a parent who teaches your child that rules are only for those who want to follow them.

I'm teaching my kids that rules should be backed up with solid reasoning, and that not all rules are just or moral. We have a moral duty to break certain rules. I dont teach my kids not to ask "why?" when I tell them not to do something. We MUST ask why. Interestingly, you wouldn't believe how well behaved my kids are at school. Straight A students and never been in trouble in school a day in their lives.

You have to be honest with yourself that this isn't the best take. You sound like the parent that allows your kid and their friends to party and drink at your home as long they're responsible.

The whole issue is that at that age, kids are not as mature as adults, and are more susceptible to making poor rash decisions for what they think is their momentary benefit.

Your kid may very well rationalize that under age drinking is fine, breaking the speed limit is fine, not wearing their seat belt is fine, etc because they're smart enough handle it versus the dumb rule.

So we just follow all rules? My kid has to be forced to use the pronouns they were assigned st birth? They have to stand for the pledge because it is a rule? My daughter has to go into a room alone with a school resource officer because he is an authority figure and he said so?

Really?

Your philosophy is the eptiome of individualism.

Rules should never be broken. From that basis, exceptions can be made based on extreme circumstance. If you dislike it, follow the rules and change it later.

But to you, rules can be broken at any time at your discretion. That's just crazy to me haha. Maybe that's how things work in the west.

[u/homonculus_prime → u/Mysterious_Object_20]

It isn't really individualism. It is the product of living in a place where a hell of a lot of rules are made by religious people with the goal of forcing others to conform to their religious dogma whether they follow their religion or not. So, we push back on authoruty. Sure, I'll follow your rules, but only if you can explain to me why I should care about them.

Just as an example, when you pass a rule that says my child must use the pronouns that conform to the gender they were assigned at birth, I'm not following that rule, and I'm not asking my child to follow that rule. You'd really tell my kid they just have to follow the rule until we get it changed?

The authoritarians must love you.

[u/homonculus_prime → u/[deleted]]

It is literally an authoritarian philosophy. You can try to put lipstick on that pig and call it discipline all you want, but it is literally authoritarianism.

Did you know that we even have a means to find someone not-guilty of a crime, even if you think they committed the act they are accused of? It is called jury nullification. It is a means of saying, "im convinced the person committed the act they are accused of, but i cannot in good conscience find them guilty of a crime." Your philosophy would never allow you to exercise that right, though. You'd happily throw someone in prison because they did something illegal, even if you found the law itself to be morally repugnant. Gross. I'd rather do the moral thing than do the legal thing.

[u/homonculus_prime → u/[deleted]]

This whole conversation has been you saying "follow the rules no matter what." You're going to need to explain how you get from there to being on board with jury nullification.
