Article/Publications October long-range data is in, and I combined six seasonal weather models into one snowfall forecast for winter 2026/2027. Data reveals a clear Super El Niño pattern: more snow for the Southern and Central U.S., but less snow in the North, southern Canada, and most of Europe
I make seasonal snowfall maps from the long-range models each month, and with the data from October predictions now available, it shows that all six main models now agree on a strong Super El Niño snow pattern this winter.
In the United States, more snow is expected from California and the Southwest into the Southern Plains and the South, while the Pacific Northwest, the Northern Rockies, the Great Lakes, and New England show a below-normal snow signal. But when plotting the change from September to October data, the Northeast showed the biggest improvement in total snowfall forecast. Timing-wise, December looks slow, with most of the snow coming in January and February.
A below-normal snowfall season is also predicted by all six models across southern Canada and most of Europe.
In the article, I present the full set of maps, including the visual change from the previous month's snow forecast, the snow spatial distribution, the forecast for ski areas, and a Snowfall Explorer where you can check the snow forecast for your own state, province, or country.

[OC] The D-Day Surf Report
Hi! I am a physical oceanographer specializing in ocean waves. I'm interested in telling stories from the history of wave science. This is my first attempt putting together a video, in it I tell the story of Walter Munk and the development of surf forecasting for the D-Day landings. As I say in the intro, I was inspired by talk from science advisors to the recent movie "Pressure". In it, they detail how the weather influenced the D-Day landings, but I didn't hear a lot about the waves, which I felt deserved more attention. Of course, the wind is what drives the ocean waves, so these things are coupled. Anyway, I hope you find it interesting.

Hey I made a new app, was wondering if anyone likes it
Hey, I just wanted to share a website I made, its for storm chasing and exploration. It has an ai copilot to find cool things to see like abandoned mines off the map, scp analysis, radar, storm prediction, super cell and mesocyclones visuals, a warning notification, a weather brief and a super cell + tornado chance system that overlays and shows the most likely area to produce a storm, a super cell or a tornado! I just wanted to share it, I'm new so sorry if I broke a advertising rule or something. Thank you!!!
