Quick Summary: The FMC (first pic) was raised specifically to counter the Heavenly Demon/Cheonma alongside her squad, the Black Serpents. They succeeded, but in the process, they became way too powerful for the Murim Alliance to control. So, after she finished the job, she was betrayed. She survived, though, and is now slowly recovering her power with the goal of taking down the Murim Alliance.
This is an Overpowered MC story where, rather than the Main Character growing stronger through training, she’s already the strongest. The problem is that she’s heavily injured, so her version of “getting stronger” is basically just recovering more and more of the power she already had.
One of the things I like is that there’s no romance. Obviously, there are characters who are into her, but it’s not that kind of story, and romance isn’t the focus.
Another thing I like, which is honestly only a minor spoiler, is that not everyone in the Murim Alliance is comically evil. Some of its members and leaders were either against betraying the Black Serpents or were kept completely in the dark about it. Likewise, a lot of the common people who look up to her and her squad weren’t told the truth about what happened, so it feels a lot less like a generic “her against the entire world” story.
Aside from that, the choreography is wonderful, the worldbuilding is about what you’d expect from a Murim series, with the familiar sects, clans, and general structure, and the characters all feel pretty unique.
As for the story itself, it’s still ramping up, but it seems like it’s starting to establish a divide between Martial Artists and Cultivators. It also looks like the FMC may eventually become a Cultivator herself, which would be pretty neat.
