Comprehensive list of gay bars/LGBT venues in Greater Manchester
I have compiled the following list of gay/LGBT+ bars/clubs/venues/businesses* in Greater Manchester. There are several other lists online, however most are out-of-date, and they all ignore anything outside of Canal Street. This is thus the most comprehensive list currently available; I’ve added a brief description for each one (n.b. I am not affiliated with any of these venues).
If anyone has any additions/corrections, please DM me and I’ll edit as appropriate.
\Meaning any venue which caters for and markets itself towards a predominantly LGBT+ crowd, not just ‘gay-friendly’. Casual social/meet-up groups not included. Worded also to aid Google SEO.*

What did the Obama heckler say tonight at Coop Live?
Did anyone else see Obama this evening at Co-op live? There was a heckler at one point and I couldn’t hear what he said but Obama shut it down pretty quick! Was curious if anyone made out what the heckler said?

Greater Manchester considering £10m plug-in solar scheme
Spotted this interesting development in Greater Manchester's latest plans.
The Combined Authority is considering a scheme worth up to £10 million to bring plug-in solar to households across the region.
Details are still pretty thin, but if it goes ahead, there's the possibility of free or heavily subsidised solar kits for households that might otherwise struggle to afford them.
For anyone unfamiliar with plug-in solar, these are small solar panel systems, only recently made legal in the UK, that could save households around £95–£155 a year on their electricity bills, without the hefty upfront cost of a conventional rooftop installation.
Nothing is confirmed yet in terms of funding, eligibility or how the scheme would work. A decision is expected before the end of the year.
More details here, including links to the official documents:

Any tips how to find an affordable 1-bed flat in our around Manchester (social or private)?
This is actually for a friend who is in her late 30's - she doesn't currently live in Manchester but for personal reasons needs to relocate. She has a job, but like many single people will need something affordable. She is currently in a council flat in the city she is living in now - the area is pretty rough so she doesn't have high expectation when it comes to area.
She has links to Manchester but not the kind that would likely be accepted by the council. She is now looking for a new job and that might be an opportunity to establish a link - she earns about 25k a year at the moment but maybe she'll be able to earn a little more if the job is based in Manchester (she works reduced hours, it's not NMW). She already tried social housing swap sites but the people on there rarely get back to you.
She is autistic and has PTSD from past abuse, one of the reasons why she probably couldn't cope living with someone else - she originally got her council flat because at the time her parents kicked her out and she needed to get out. Due to her circumstances (PTSD etc) she also got put on the high priority list. She isn't expecting high priority but just to get a chance to apply.
Private renting would be an option but I doubt she would get anything for £600. Also she has no options for a guarantor or they likely think she doesn't earn enough (she is amazing with money - she will live on beans on toast if she has to but I guess a private landlord would probably not be convinced)
Are there any local tips or tricks or organisations that anyone knows about that could assist here? I live in a completely different part of the country so my help is limited here and as I said, there is not much in terms of help coming from her family.
Edit: She doesn't need to live in the city center - outskirts are totally fine

City Centre Protests in Manchester city centre today?
Hi everyone,
I was in Manchester city centre today and noticed some protests taking place. Around 6 pm, I also saw a convoy of vehicles travelling south along Cross Street, accompanied by a police escort.
There seemed to be quite a bit of security, and lots of people were filming the convoy as it passed. It looked like there might have been some well-known people in the vehicles.
Does anyone know what the protests were about and who was in the convoy? Were there any celebrities, politicians or other notable people involved?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone actually been on the Manchester Pub Crawl?
Hi everyone!
I'm visiting Manchester from Norway at the end of October and have booked the Manchester Pub Crawl.
I've been looking through the Tripadvisor reviews, but quite a few seem a bit suspicious, with lots of very positive reviews from accounts with little or no previous activity.
I've also emailed the organisers about my booking, but haven't received a reply yet.
Has anyone here actually been on this specific pub crawl (manchesterpubcrawl.co.uk)?
Did the organisers show up, was there a decent group of people, and was it a good night overall?
I'm travelling solo and mainly booked it to meet some people and have a fun night out, so I'd really appreciate any genuine experiences!
Cheers!

City Centre to Rochdale past 00:00??
Travel question here. Got the opportunity for a job in city centre but the only issue is sometimes I will finish between ,00:00 and 02:00 and wondered what the best way to travel back to Rochdale station would be at that time?
I know nothing really about the transport in Manchester or what times stuff runs and would appreciate any help, please.
TIA

Pumpkin Patches Manchester
I’m looking for a pumpkin patch in Manchester, or within a 30/40 minute drive from the city centre that would be open late, until around 8 or 9 pm, so that I’d be able to go to it after work. Does anyone know any places that would work?

Do people from Oldham generally support United or City?
My parents are originally from Oldham, but I was born and raised in Australia. My dad's and I both support Oldham Athletic and Man United.
I was wondering, outside of Oldham Athletic, do people from Oldham generally lean more towards United or City?

Tips on Applying For Manchester City Council Jobs
As per the title - wondering if anyone who works or has worked at the Council has any tips on the application process. I’ve applied for a couple of roles that line up well with my experience, felt like my CV and form were pretty good, but got rejected before the interview stage.
I’m looking for admin jobs, ideally hybrid working 9-5s but open to being flexible on that if the role is great. Minimum salary around £32k.
Basically looking for hints on tailoring my CV and application form to fit what the recruiters are looking for. For example on the open-ended personal statement part, is it best to use the full word count and use the STAR approach like with a civil service role, or better to be brief and conversational? Any red flags/common mistakes that might be causing me to fail at the early stage? Really anything that might help me get to the interview stage.
Thanks in advance, Manc hive mind!

City Centre Irwell River bridge repair
Was walking past this morning and spotted that a pontoon has appeared in the River Irwell, by the old Mark Addy pub.
Looks like they’re about to repair the broken bridge that connects New Bailey (to the left) with Spinningfields (to the right). Wonder how long it’ll take and if the bridge will retain its distinctive wobble 😆
