Malvern has a founding saint -- Werstan -- and his church was probably at the top of Rosebank Gardens. Malvern's early history is fascinating!

BMX Tyres

Hi all, does anyone have any recommendations for replacing/repairing BMX bike tyres locally? Sized: 20-inch 2.1

Picked up a second-hand bike but the front tyre is flat. The chap said he tried to inflate it but it's gone flat again so potentially a puncture. Possibly have to order online but thought I'd ask.

Cheers!

Malvern Hills Peaks

Hello!

Visiting in a few weeks and considering doing the walk of all the peaks. Over the years I have probably done them all or most of them, just in many stages. I would prefer to do it in one day, but on a few websites I’ve looked at it says the walk is ‘hard’ and for ‘experienced‘. I’m aware it’s a long walk and could take me 8 or 9 hours with a good few breaks along the way (which I would want to take in views, and have a nice sit down lunch somewhere).

I’m by no means an advanced hillwalker, but I am fairly fit, I do go on regular long (flatter) walks and regular shorter hill walks - I haven’t found the previous hill walks difficult. Aware that by the nature of the walk it’s up and down, up and down, which I’m aware of.

I won’t do it if it’s rainy - I’m a fair weather walker!

I’m wondering if there’s anything I’ve missed and would require you to be an experienced walker? Any scrambling etc?

Also if you’ve got this far then thank you, and if you have any other recommendations of other activities to do around the area then please let me know! I’d seen someone recommending a place that did pilates and workshops and looked into that but can’t find it now!

Life like in Malvern lately?

Hi everyone,

We’re both in our early 30’s with a 4 year old and 1 year old looking to settle down in Malvern.

The problem is we are not from Worcestershire, and have lived closely to Birmingham all our lives. We really have lost our love for brum, and it is a boring city if you have young kids. We live in Bromsgrove at the moment, and do love it, however all the new builds are taking the green spaces and countryside that were once walkable to us.

We’re seeing a lovely house in Madresfield road, the plan is to do it up and live in Malvern and have your children grow up there. But I really wanted some honest opinions from fellow people about Malvern. I do love it there. The nature, the spa town atheistic, the local markets and cute shops. The charity shops even have some good quirky finds time to time. And obviously love the bakeries and play cafe and park.

However am I seeing our day trips through rose tinted glasses? I do want to be part of a community that is friendly and welcoming.

Thanks in advance

UFO's in Malvern Wells

Does anyone remember the incident or story about a UFO crash in the grounds behind Abbey College in Malvern Wells. I remember reading about it many years ago but have been unable to find the UFO website it was on. Happened in the night/dark, sometime in the 1980's or 1990's. Apparently there was a lot of activity with the military and police closing the place off. Bright lights were seen amongst the trees in the College grounds and no one was allowed to approach.

What do locals think of Abbey College in Malvern these days?

I was born in England but grew up mostly abroad. As a young teenager I was sent to Abbey College. It was the most horrific and damaging chapter of my life. I think I only got through it because of a mate I had there and some local kids I was able to hang out with outside the school.

Recently I’ve been researching the school’s history and learned the place stayed as awful for decades. I’ve also read that many locals have often resented Abbey College and its owners, and the many scandals they have been involved in. Seeing that it’s still owned by the same people, how is the school viewed by locals these days?

Malvern Hill Misconceptions

I have also posted this in r/Worcester but malvern is of course where this concerns. I am a geology student and recently ended up in a conversation with someone of the belief that the Malvern Hills are underlain by "quartz pyramids" and are connected to other sites in the UK through "laylines". As someone who has read quite a bit about local geology, and geology in general I don't understand where this belief came from. I am aware that other geological and archeological sites of more global fame have similar theories, but as it is not as widely known as many of these, I cannot seem to track down the origin of the theory. If anyone here has heard of this I would love to know more as I find human pattern spotting and theorising really interesting. I should clarify too that there is no judgement from me whatsoever, I just want to know why people think this and where it comes from. I hope everyone has a lovely day.

The housing development at the side of Qinetiq now has a name and I don’t think it’s a typo.

Considering making Malvern my home

Hi! After having a messy break up, I am in the process of trying to find a new area to live in. I am considering Stroud and Malvern.

Would be super grateful for any good areas, bad areas, etc any advice at all.

I am single, no children (and no plans), don't drink, work out, will have a dog. I prefer quiet areas.

Thank you!

Such a striking building in a very high profile location opposite the theatres. This looks really bad; I’m curious about what plans (if any) are currently proposed?

Moving to the area for work — Need 1BR recommendations under $1,500

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to the area soon for a job in Malvern and I'm looking for some housing advice. I need a 1-bedroom apartment and I'm trying to keep my budget under $1,500/month.

I drive and honestly don't mind a commute, so distance from Malvern isn't a huge issue for me. I'm open to living practically anywhere in the surrounding areas.

Since I'm completely new to the area, does anyone have recommendations on specific towns, neighborhoods, or apartment complexes I should be checking out?

Thanks!

Can anyone enlighten me in regard to the large number of ‘saplings’ planted around the water treatment works between Mill lane and Oxhill. They seem to be failing spectacularly- choked with weeds or falling over. Who was responsible for this, is it an example of a token attempt at greenwashing on the part of Severn Trent or property developers?
