News/Rumor New lighter MacBooks Ultra coming out exactly on October 27th
Please don’t order M5s right now… they might get cheaper after that release, even if you don’t want to buy the very latest generation….

I'm planning to upgrade from my M1 Pro MacBook Pro (16GB) to an M5 Max (18-core CPU / 40-core GPU, 48GB RAM).
I keep seeing reports that the 14" M5 Max throttles under sustained load, while the 16" doesn't seem to have the same issue because it has more room for cooling. The catch is that the 16" is too bulky for me. Portability is a big reason I like the 14".
Questions for 14" M5 Max owners:
- How bad is the throttling in real-world use, not just benchmarks?
- Have you found workarounds that help, like High Power Mode, fan control apps (e.g., Macs Fan Control), or a laptop stand or cooling pad?
- Does it only matter for long renders and exports, or does it show up in everyday work too?
-If you were me, would you go 14" Max anyway, step down to the Pro, or wait?
Thanks in advance!

Currently, I'm a student with big dreams lol. I would like to purchase a Mac with the best specs possible since I am attempting to run VM stations and a local LLM should i wait for the OLED, or just get the MacBook Pro with the M5 chip for the best specs possible

Use cases: daily multitasking, photo editing (Adobe Lightroom Classic) on large files (24MP Nikon Zf, 60MP Leica Q3 - AI tools like denoising, generative remove, masking, etc.), potentially wanting to get into video work but not a priority compared to photo editing.
Current machine & issues: Base 2021 M1 Pro (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD); moderate slowdowns/lag with only LR open, with decreasing responsiveness/snappiness with extended editing sessions. General navigation is affected, and masking/AI usage quite significantly slows down the machine/LR. Memory swap can get up to 10GB, memory pressure is orange most of the time with frequent red spikes. Opening music, notes, messages, chrome results in in severe slowdowns
Wants: machine that can last me the next 5+ years with daily use, multitasking (chrome with multiple tabs, notes, music, chatgpt) whilst using LR as fast/responsive as possible. Internal SSD storage isn't an issue as I edit off of a TB5 external SSD.
Options
1). M5 Pro (18/20), 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD: $2899+tax
2). M5 Max (18/32), 36GB RAM, 2TB SSD: $3300+tax
3). M5 Pro (18/20), 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD: $3700+tax
ArtIsRight's "Ultimate M5 Gen Pro Photo & Video Testing" recommends the base M5 Max (option 2) as the most ideal balance… but are option 1 / 3 better with additional ram?

M6 is already here and we are heading a lot of rumours lately about touch screen and redesign but what all is true no-one clearly knows.
Since the Mac mini had price hikes, what price can we expect for a MacBook Pro M6 base variant?
Any config guesses?
Will the base variant now get 24GB RAM?

Hello,
I got this MacBook as my first ever in march of 2025 brand new and my battery health is at 56% already and is stating it is significantly reduced. I keep this thing plugged in most of the time and always have low power mode on.
Is this normal?

Merci d’avance.

My current MacBook is a basic, standard no features added MacBook Pro 2015. It’s fine, it gets the job done, but it’s slow, things take time to load, I bought it when I was in high school
I just purchased the following specs in a MacBook Pro. I’ll be honest, I’m an Attorney, I just needed something fast that could keep up with all my excel sheets, emails, Webex / Zoom court hearings. It’s probably overkill for what I’m using it for, but I’m always on the go and want something reliable
$5,528.81 All In
Apple MacBook Pro 16 Inch M5 Max
64 GB Ram 4TB Storage 18CPU 40 GPU
Nano Texture Display
It’s getting shipped to me, Seller said it maybe has 10-12 charging cycles, barely used, too big for his liking. I also wanted to stick to a 14 inch but thought this may be a good deal

My first ever laptop died its final death last year and I tried to revive it with a new battery and charge port unfortunately with no victory. A board is pretty expensive as it’s a 2.9ghz i7 one. If I buy another Mac like a 2.5ghz i5 one the same year, will I be able to just slot my ssd in and boot it up as my old computer?

I’m looking to purchase my first MacBook and plan to keep it for approximately 6–8 years at least. I’m deciding between the base M5 with 24GB RAM/1TB SSD ($2199 MSRP) and the M5 Pro with 24GB RAM/2TB SSD (currently $2,399, down from $2,999 MSRP).
My primary use will be professional productivity, including real estate work, spreadsheets, CRM software, website management, research, multitasking, and general everyday computing.
However, I also have some interests I’d like to explore in the future. These include occasional video editing snowboarding and travel footage, potentially longer 4K/360° video projects, learning CAD and 3D printing.
Realistically, 90% of my usage will probably be everyday productivity, but I want a machine that can comfortably handle more demanding projects as my interests develop as I’ll have it a long time.
I’m leaning toward the M5 Pro because of the current $600 discount, additional performance, and doubled storage. However, I’m questioning whether I’d actually benefit from that extra power enough to justify spending another $400–$450. Another point is the planned announcement of the M6 line on the 27th of this month
For those with real-world experience using base and Pro chips, would you spend the extra money for longevity and flexibility, or is the base M5 more than enough for my needs? Also, would you wait for the M5 to go on sale or buy the M5 Pro now?

After years of relying on the familiar Windows ecosystem, I finally made the leap and switched to the Mac. Leaving behind the muscle memory of Windows laptops was a massive shift, but upgrading to the sheer power of Macbook completely redefines my daily workflow.

Hello, shader packs on Mac use OpenGL, which isn't supported by Macs chips, so on my MacBook Pro (M4, 10-core GPU, 16 GB) Iris + Complementary runs at about 22 FPS at the native 3024×1964. I made a free mod with shaders written in Metal instead.
- Balanced, 1440p: 137–156 FPS
- Balanced, native: 108-124 FPS
- Ultra, native: 64–80 FPS
The newest version (1.2.2) adds Distant Horizons presets and reflective far water, on top of an in-game settings menu with about 120 options. No Sodium needed. Apple Silicon only (M1 or newer, macOS 15 or later), Minecraft 26.3 with Fabric.
Free and open source: https://github.com/GaelQuinta/minecraft-metal-shaders/releases/latest
It's also in review on Modrinth, so if you'd rather install it from there, it should be up soon.
If you have an M1/M2/M3 or a Pro/Max chip, I'd love to know your numbers.

So I got my 1first macbook which is a used one macbook pro m1 chip 2020 13in, 16gb ram 256gb storage I have got external ssg so no problem with that I got it for 43k inr I.e $475 the battery health is 85% at 685 charge cycles.
I basically bought it for editing videos like I am just starting to learn till what level editing I can do on it and how many years can I use it without problem I'll use it mainly witha charger plugged in and my charge pattern will be 20% to 80% and after 80% I use limit and after some time I let it charge to 100 then plug off the charger and use it for a while then shut it down. The gap is of 12-18 hours between each use sometime less too.

Hello, I am a longtime windows user and have never used macbook before, though i do use an iphone.
I am really confused about which one should I buy.
I came across MacBook pro M4 pro chip (24gb) 12-core CPU & 16-core GPU -512gb storage.
And MacBook pro M5 base version(16gb) 512 gb, (both of them 14 inch)
I am low on budget and found this two almost same price, watched lot of YT videos and reviews but still confused!
looking for some good advise on this. Mostly use it for Programming, studying, docker, few ML and some web browsing(netflix, YT, etc)

Just grabbed this one from Micro Center, price is about $700 cheaper than education price and $1,100 cheaper than the full price from Apple Store.
It was at $4,199 but by the time I pulled the plug it already went up by $100 - but still a pretty good price IMO. After I picked mine up, price went up by another $200.
Specs:
Edit: Just set it up and looks like I lost 4 months of limited warranty for the save - but I'll take it!
