I was hoping that this would be an easy find, but after several years of searching, it’s proven a lot more difficult than anticipated.
I came across the movie “Henry May Long” from its soundtrack by Max Richter. It’s a period drama, set in the late 1800s starring Christian Camargo.
As far as I know, it’s a somewhat obscure film but had a significant, non-zero budget. It was notable enough to be rentable from several streaming platforms about a decade ago, which is how I watched it originally (through iTunes movies which no longer hosts it.)
I’d been getting back into period pieces again and resumed a search for it a couple years ago. I didn’t think the movie would be virtually unfindable because, notably, the whole soundtrack is still widely available AND select tracks from the score have appeared in other media as well.
It turns out, the entire film is basically gone somehow and has become my lost media white whale. It is no longer hosted on any streaming platform, nor readily available as any kind of physical release.
My friend and I have reached out in various different ways to find the film, including emailing people involved in production/direction, actors, and people formerly associated with the now-defunct production company that produced it “Help the Bombardier.”
To my understanding, not even a trailer exists for this film.
That said, this only counts as partially lost as no more than 2-3 short clips of it exist online, as part of Brian Barnhart’s sizzle reel, on the production’s long defunct facebook page, and on a streaming platform that likely formerly hosted it. The score and several screenshots/production photos exist as well to prove that the movie was a thing.
On a personal note, I don’t even remember the movie being that particularly excellent. That said, I was 12-14 ish years younger and didn’t understand media that well. In any case, I think it’s a piece of media that deserves to be found, mind-blowing or not. And after a long, personal search, I’m turning here for any potential assistance.
