MOC Today I got to build this model of the Chesapeake & Ohio 490 in front of the real one in Baltimore!

The smile on your face tells it all. Iove anyone that gets excited about their hobbies. You do you and enjoy it. Good for you man!

Follow him on YouTube - some great shorts about Baltimore/Maryland history. And you can tell he enjoys it all.
Edit: Oops - same username there (and Instagram, etc). https://www.youtube.com/c/salvagearc

That yellow is stunning

As is this Lego builder’s smile. 🙂

u/cultofwacky 4h ago
Indeed. That is a happy man. Reminds me a few years ago I bought myself the Lego creator pirate ship as a birthday gift and my ex’s sister thought I was stoned because I was so ecstatic

Your joy is infectious! That's such a beautiful model being held by a beautiful man in front of a beautiful train! What a delightful moment, thank you for sharing. Hope you have a lovely rest of your week!

As a fan of Lego, trains and Baltimore (even though I've never been, yet), well done.

This is using the internet to the fullest, sharing your passion with the rest of us. This is an amazing build, such a cool opportunity, and it's so clear how much fun this was for ya! Great stuff!!

Wait, you’re the guy known for digging up/fishing up cool old artifacts in Baltimore, right?! Followed you on IG forever

Great museum. Nice work.
Now travel to Roanoke and do the Norfolk & Western J Class #611.

The shaping on that streamlined nose is spot on. Pulling off those Art Deco curves in Lego without losing the proportions to the real thing is seriously impressive work.

This is cool as hell and also where is this in Baltimore?? The B&O?
Dude your model is amazing
4
u/ReferenceCreative510 3h ago
Yep. The B&O (or as they're now called, the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation via the Smithsonian partnership)

Nice job. While I’m at best a very casual train enjoyer, seeing how happy you are made me smile.

I’m not a train person, but this one might actually change that. Sweet build, but man that train is super cool.

brings me joy to see other Black folks who enjoy Lego and Trains. Awesome build man
3
u/Short_Swordsman 5h ago
It might also bring you joy (and it brings me a lot of joy and you’re near the top comment so you’re the chosen one I guess) to follow his Instagram, which digs into Baltimore history and archaeology. I’ve got zero connection to Baltimore but I watch every video with enthusiasm.

That rocks dude. You could put it forward to Lego as one of the fan created sets that they let people vote on whether to make into kits

u/Salvage_Arc 5h ago
I wish I could take credit for the design! It was created by someone else a while ago.

Do you have a link by chance? I'd love to give their work a look! It's been a while since I've been into trains but I was obsessed with them as a kid.

That's a very cool museum. Going into some of the full-size engines is a neat experience. And the museum has (or used to have) special events a couple times a year for kids, which we took our sons to when they were younger (they've outgrown those things now): They put a Thomas face on one of the engines at least one year, and they've done the Polar Express at Christmastime a couple times, complete with a visit from Santa and hot chocolate, although nobody dances on magic tables. 😆

I'm not a train guy, not a super lego guy either.
But this, look at the joy in that mans eyes. Look how happy he is.

Do you shave your head and the trim you beard to a separate length? Or just shave your head everyday and beard every 3rd?

I'm not a train guy, but I don't think you could have possibly done any better. That build looks exactly like the train behind you. Well done.
